Does anybody know why this place closed? :(((((( This was my hands down favorite sooljip in ktown. Tabletop budaejjigae, good chicken wings, and they had the best ambience. I’m big on atmosphere and this place had an open roof which really added to the chill setting. Really wish there were other sooljips that had the same no roof thing. So sad this place is gone. :((((((

I think it’s worth it if u get the combos. food is quite pricey!!! But their combos are good. Boodaejigae(military stew), dak dongjib(gizzard) & soju=way too much food for 2 people for reals but was pretty good! My favorite part about the place was that it was outdoors. love it. Perfect for summer nights !

This place is DEF worth it to come by for the HH. A huge list of their foods is 50% off. I don’t think that can be beat. Otherwise, it’s too pricey for myself. I like the ambiance, and the service is also nice. It’s got an outdoor feel even though it’s inside, as though you’re in a starlit backyard barbecue. Some recs on food are: Sweet potato fries– it’s super crunchy and crispy like a sweet potato crunch stick. Delicious. Ra Pokki(spicy rice cake and ramen) — the sauce is so well made. I’m giving it 5 star. Boo Dae Chigae(korean kimchi sausage stew aka wartime stew) — This is the best one I’ve had in any korean restaurant IMHO. The broth is unique, and definitely like it more than Han Il Gwan(which is known for their boo dae chicgae). Keran mari(egg rolled with cheese inside) — Imaging an egg omelet w/cheese inside. It’s quite delicious. HH ends at 9p.m. on M-F as far as I know.

Used to go here a lot for 2cha after dinner, its a pretty nice set up inside. However their food isnt super good or cheap. If you just want a pretty place to get drinks only its good. Also bring a jacket sometimes you get seated in a semi-patio area that can have a cold draft from the outside.

Seems like such a waste to go here after 9pm. I mean if you hurry a little bit, you get half of your food from the entire menu. 50% and not just on a select few items. Sign me up! I originally planned on going to wine bbar but did that turn into a hot pot restaurant? Is there finally a place for hot pot in la? Couldn’t find that, then was going to go to harang but then I saw the happy hour sign and I can never pass up a good deal. Kind of kept thinking I would bump into my mom here, the crowd is a bit older but I don’t let petty things like that ruin my experience. NFL was on not Korean music videos, so it wasn’t too much Korean overkill for my Japanese friend. The food. Clear mussel soup is my favorite way to eat mussels! Garlicky, briny broth with jalapeños is so refreshing. Kind of like the broth for Korean clams. Reminds me of my childhood. Labboki, rice cakes with ramen was like burn your intestines hot. When you eat something to the point where you can’t talk or feel your tongue, it was like that. Some of my white friends days it has no flavor besides«spicy» but I can handle spice like a pro. This was a five alarm-er. I look back with fond memories, every once in a while I welcome that KICK. Central location and a parking lot makes this an easy decision.

My parents and I were going to try a fried chicken restaurant nearby, but my dad noticed that this place was having a 50% off happy hour until 9 pm. We didn’t go to karaōke, so I don’t have any thoughts on that. However, the food was average/mediocre. I thought the dishes were overpriced. So much for happy hour. We ordered fried chicken, pig feet in tossed salad, fish cake soup, and acorn jelly salad, which was overly drenched in sauce. On another note, it has valet parking, and the atmosphere wasn’t all that lively. But then again, we went pretty early? like around 7ish. The place doesn’t seem too inviting from the outside. Inside there are flickering Christmas lights everywhere. You can choose to sit inside or outside. Inside there are TVs and service buttons(?). Is that what you would call them? There’s a button that you press to call over waiters, so you don’t have to yell across the place to get their attention or anything.

50% off but the items are overpriced to begin with, so it comes out to about the same price as other restaurants. The quality of the food is so poor. You can tell the seafood is old and it is overcooked and rubbery. The environment is really noisy/loud. I did enjoy the outdoor seating because the lighting was a welcome change from other korean restaurants.

Came here strictly for drinks and food. The food is pretty good… traditional Korean fare. But seriously, from parking to wait staff, it was probably the WORST service EVER! I would give it one star, but the extra star is for the food. I mean honestly, they have little buzzers on the table to call your wait staff but even when you buzz, they ignore you. And personally, I think they ignore you more if you are NOT Korean. Sure, I could’ve started rapping to them in Korean, but I didn’t. I don’t think they should discriminate and serve all customers the same. Thank you very much. The food though was pretty good, and reasonable, and the menu is pretty big. But seriously, trying to get water was like an act of Congress. Now the parking was an entirely different issue. We pull up to the valet. There was a mob of people outside waiting for their car and no valet people to be found. We sat there in the car forever. Still no one comes. Finally, a few of my friends get out of the car and asks the valet guy, is this where we are supposed to go for valet? He says yes, my friends come back and tell me we’re in the right place. Then we’re still sitting. Waiting. Still waiting. And waiting. I mean come on!!! Finally, a guy comes, hands us the ticket and takes the car. Good grief!!!

I would like to give even ½ star if I could. Horrible Service! We ordered Spicy and Sour Shrimp Fried but the food was terrible. The shrimp was very stale so we called the manager and asked if they can exchange with other food. And he told us that because no one else ever complained, they can’t do it. He didn’t even say any apology. We couldn’t eat the food so we just left the place and gave 1 cent tip. I would not go back there ever again and definitely not recommend to anyone. This place was also for people in 30’s or older. I didn’t know until I went inside. I didn’t see any anyone who looks in their 20’s.

My friends and I have been to Star Light a bunch of times and each time has been crazier than the last. They have an excellent song selection(they stay up to date on the newest pop songs) and the service is awesome. The waiters are all super nice despite the fact that we can get kind of rowdy. Also a major plus… their CHICKENWINGS!!! Definitely a must! They are absolutely delicious!

Brought a couple friends here due to mostly everywhere else closed on holidays. Fortunately for us many Korean businesses remained open wee into the holiday night including Star Light. This is a unique spot with both KBBQ, dining, drinking and karaōke rooms. My group would be dining and drinking beer pitchers for this visit. We sat in a pseudo-outdoors table with a cool forest feel to it. Most of the other patrons were Korean, but my group of non’s were treated really well from our waiter Kim. When we needed more beer, he helped us promptly. If there’s any name that my friends would dub this place, it is the strobing light epilepsy spot. Basically, there’s no way to miss this place if you are looking for it. -=-Food-=- We got a few appetizers to keep our stomachs full from endless beer drinking. Plates weren’t the cheapest, but from trial and error, we found the perfect dish for snacking which was crispy chicken. Other plates that we got like the bulgogi on kimchi and pancakes were pricey for what you got. I really would only consider this place again during happy hours.

Came here for a couple of drinks and ended up getting a bottle of liquor haha… Service was pretty good and food wasn’t bad either. The crowd, however, was a little older than I expected. They had a little cart with street food, but we didn’t get to try it because it wasn’t ready yet. I’ll have to come back to try it later…

This place is a typical korean café/drinking place. Nice place to chill but didnt feel too confortable there. First of all the lights were way too bright in there, space was too open and just had a lot of tables around. Seemed pretty cluttered, disorderly, and just not my type of scene. I like my drinking atmosphere to be a bit more cozy, warm, and a bit darker. LK

Everything about this place is gradually getting better with every visit. Happy Hour is until 9 and everything is half off. The food is one of the greater perks here. I haven’t tried anything bad yet. I really enjoyed the ‘Haemool Nooroongjitang’ and it’s a spicy soup with cooked rice and seafood. It’s enough to share for 3~4.

The rice cake in the Korean hot sauce was awesome! Although I didn’t care so much for their bibimbap. If you aren’t too familiar with Korean food or in my case, iPhone dies and I can’t access what Unilocalers reviewed about this place then you will blindly order whatever is on the menu and hope for the best. Would I be back? I’m sure I can their hot sauce in any Korean market. Their rice cake was good enough for me to come back.

My friend Sarah Swag, Greg, and Justine came here after attending the live taping of the Conan show. Korean Town, there were tons of places to eat and we were all feeling, of course, Korean food. But there was so many to choose from, I think we passed up five walking around. Before entering Starlight we were set on going into another restaurant but they took cash only, so there we were walking down the road to find an ATM machine and along the way we encountered this place. And let me mention, this is about 4pm in the afternoon. At first sight, we were sure the place was closed until we saw a group of diners in the patio area. As we walked through the doors, we start noticing Karaōke rooms and a ton of lighting equipment. This place isn’t just a Korean restaurant, it has multiple karaōke rooms for large groups! Unfortunately we were in town for just the day. We were seated and turned out we sat down for happy hour. PERFECT! When looking at the menu everything is totally written in Korean. We weren’t even sure what to order and what we were ordering. But with the help of the friendly waiter, we had a full house, decked out meal for really cheap not to mention the drinks. We had the Hite beer, a Korean made beer, my first time, and it has the similar taste as a Sapporo, which is my favorite Japanese beer out there. 50% off food and drinks, you absolutely couldn’t complain. We went to the right place on top of that they took debit/credit cards. This place is superb, if I actually lived in Los Angeles I’d definitely come back to try out their karaōke rooms with some friends. It looks like it’d be a blast! Four stars because I have yet to try out their Karaōke.

I love this place. The restaurant is decent but I love the karaōke rooms upstairs(some rooms downstairs too). It’s $ 30−40/hr but this is one of the better places. They have 2 tv screens in every room and lots of lights, rooms seat 5 – 6 comfortably and are medium sized. We order hite, soju, and sweet potato shoestring fries and hamburger steak. The fries are so thin with powdered sugar on top so that it’s like funnel cake!!! We also got some free food too one night we went bc we ordered a lot?! So much fun and glamor. Loved the service, my Korean friends were the ones who originally took me there but everyone speaks enough English for anyone to have a good time. Just don’t be intimidated that the sign is in Korean. Songs wise it’s just like any other KKaraoke place

(what the hell name is ‘Star Light’ ?? it’s the English translation of the original Korean name, still, it is NOT the name of this place…) All Right! A nice, new, shiny, clean place at the north-western corner of Wilshire Bl. and Manhattan Pl. This is where the former ‘Zip’ used to be. Although it has not essentially changed from being a café/restaurant/bar with a karaōke place(aka ‘noraebang’) on the upper floors, this place is a step up. Now… I never had an issue with the former ‘Zip’ and liked it, but, after having a place renovated, ‘re-vamped’ and cleaned up, how could one not like it more? A group of eleven of us came here on a Tuesday evening at 9:30 pm. We ordered a bunch of dishes to be shared and they were all quite good(broiled pike mackerel with lemon [yum!], spicy rice cakes, whole broiled chicken [tasty and tender], fried chicken innards [not my thing…], fried chicken wings [good], kimchi sujebi [kimchi soup], ‘budejjigae’ [aka ‘military stew’; a hodgepodge of anything you can find] and so forth). The staff was nice and the management very gracious. They comped us on some of it — we left a generous tip. Then…they comped us for a free hour of ‘noraebang’ [karaōke], so we got let into one of the rooms and sang our hearts out. Clean rooms, good sound-systems. Yup — do yourself a favor and check it out; it’s new, it’s clean, it’s sparkly and glitzy. Small valet lot, though… you can usually get lucky with street parking.
