Stefan L. Smith is professional violist, violinist, and composer in the Los Angeles area. He is currently a member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra as well as a regular recording studio musician. With over 15+ years teaching all different levels, Smith is able to educate effectively and efficiently. Whether it is learning for the first time, coming back to the instrument and/or writing, or advanced preparation, Smith is able to help you reach the next level.

Stefan L. Smith studied at the USC’s Thornton School of Music on a full tuition scholarship for a MM in Viola Performance with Professor Donald McInnes. He also has a BM in both Viola Performance and Music Composition from DePaul University’s School of Music.
In LA, Stefan has branched into composition avenues of concert music commissions, film music, pop and R&B song writing, as well as extensive professional symphony playing. Stefan has been principal violist of many professional ensembles and is currently a tenured member of the LA Phil’s Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. He is also a sought after violist in the film industry as well as for film/tv projects such as Modern Family, The Voice, Glee, 90 210, and the BET Awards.
Smith was invited to the UC Berkeley Young Musicians Program Faculty where he taught Violin, Viola, and Music Composition. He is also a William Harris Lee Artist playing on a 2003 Bronek Cison as well as a Maestro Foundation Artist playing on a Michael Yeats Bow.
