If u come around noon on a weekday expect a wait for many of the eateries in thr Grand Central Market. It took about 20mins to order and get my food. The Beef Panang tender braised beef mildly spiced coconut curry over rice. Pretty good. Thai tea was decent. Next time, Id like to order from the other side(on the backside) which has soups and noodles.

Pretty good Thai food. I went with the Seau Rong Hai or also known as the crying tiger steak. Meat was excellent cooked perfectly and had delicious a marinade. The sticky rice was interesting and tasted as expected. The salad tasted fresh and had a lemon ginger dressing to it. All the ingredients tasted fresh and overall some solid Thai food. Only let down was the price a bit too much.

Good portion of BBQ chicken– but I wish they gave more sticky rice and papaya salad to go with it. I tried to «roll» the right amount of meat, sticky rice together and eat w the papaya salad– I ended up w more meat leftover. Not a bad thing… but kinda want to keep working the right ratio you know? So add a little more sticky rice? The mango and sticky rice is good too. I was just in Thai town in Hollywood and was told mango wasn’t in season yet so it was nice to see it here– and at $ 8 a plate no less– score that Thai town!!! 3 stars cause it took awhile to get the order and GCM being so crowded as it is that wasn’t a good experience being«pushed around» while I waited.

Beef curry is buttery-good! I got my food 2 minutes after I ordered. Delicious, and very filling.

Review solely for the khao soi! It’s $ 10 for a bowl, and comes with thick noodles, a good amount of chicken and a creamy broth. The broth is like a creamy coconut curry soup! If you’ve never had khao soi before, it’s definitely worth trying. Their other menu items look promising, so the next time I’m at central market, I’ll update my review!

This place is tucked within the Grand Central Market and offers excellent tasting Thai food. I’ve had the Thai BBQ chicken with a side of the papaya salad. The BBQ chicken was amazingly flavorful and juicy… only with they served you with larger portions. The papaya salad was also pretty fresh and very tasty as well. Make sure to come here early as this place can get pretty packed during lunch. When it gets packed, there is often no seating out in front and it may be difficult to get seating at the public tables in the grand central market.

I have found my new favorite thai place! They serve free-range, organic chicken even though they have a «street food» style theme. They have several options for phat thai with different meats(pork, chicken, beef, etc) for $ 10. With shrimp its $ 15. I took about 4 bites and was almost already full. It is the perfect mix of lime, spices, and sweetness. SOOOOGOOD and I’m so happy I have leftovers to take home. The line wasn’t very long, and the wait was about 20 minutes. We were able to easily find a spot to sit down on a table on Sunday evening. Can’t wait to go back!

Best Thai BBQ chicken I have ever had. It’s super tender and the skin is perfectly seared. There’s a sweet and spicy sauce that’s served with it. While it’s very tasty, the chicken is flavorful either way. The sticky rice on the side is the perfect texture and sweetness. I could see why they named this place after the sticky rice. Although the chicken gives the rice a run for its $$. The papaya salad is fresh and spicy. I will definitely be back for this comfort dish any chance I get.

If you like Thai food, you will love this place. It’s home-style, it’s street food, it’s come as you are, it’s just what you’re craving! First time to the Central Market and, as a foodie, I’m almost embarrassed to say that. How did this place manage to stay off my radar? Somebody on Unilocal rightly described the market as «Food Nirvanah». Arrived starving, which only amped up the foodie joy and excitement I was experiencing. Egg Slut, I discovered, makes it’s home here, and a few others that have pretty good Unilocal ratings(Tacos Tumbra, McConnell’s Ice Cream etc) I’ve been twice now, and both times we stopped at Sticky Rice. And both times we ordered: HAINANCHICKEN(5⁄5) If you’ve ever been to Singapore and tried the Hainan Chicken there, you are probably like me, trying desperately trying to find that same taste of that dish here in the States. Well, I’ve been unsuccessful until Sticky Rice. They come the closest. The chicken was moist, the rice was fantastic(broken rice, with that great garlic flavor coming through), and the sauce was right on, although nothing compares to the sauce we got in Singapore. MANGOWITHSTICKYRICE(5⁄5) I have no words. Every once in a while, a dessert will come along, and completely rock your world. It’s so simple, but so heavenly awesome. The mango in combo with that coconut-laced broken rice is sublime. The place is tiny, and they have a counter with about 10 seats. Good luck finding a seat — it’s packed. There are tables right next door that I think are community tables for anybody’s use. We order and sit there which is better than the counter anyway since it’s a table where you can sit around and talk. We have yet to order anything else on the menu, but I have carefully taken notice of all the food that is served on that counter, and it def passed the visual test — it all looks good. And from the look of the happy faces that are stuffing the food in, you just know that you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Only a few things on the menu, but that’s all you need. Funny thing. While I was waiting for our order to be ready, I went around the corner to wait in the Tacos Tumbras line, and as I’m waiting I happen to notice right around the back side of Sticky Rice, is another food stall by the same name. But it’s a different food stall altogether. What?! They have a diff menu, diff sign, diff cooks and servers. How can they call themselves Sticky Rice too? Well, when I asked, they told me the story — didn’t quite understand it all, but enough to know that the owner is the same, and they keep it separate for some reason. What’s weird is that hardly anyone is in line there, as opposed to the other side which is constantly hoppin’. OK, if you haven’t been to Grand Central Market, you need to go. Stop at Sticky Rice for sure. Don’t miss the Sticky Rice and Mango. Next time, I’m going to try Egg Slut. And I’m sure Sticky Rice will supply the dessert!

This was, strangely, my first time at the Grand Central Market. For a foodie, this should have been my 18th time. Oh well. At least that has been remedied. I. Will. Be back! Sitting at the bar here can be tricky, and we got hit in the back by several passer bys and back packs multiple times… including a few good thumps. People just need to pay attention better. But other than that I love the atmosphere of the market and it is always fun to watch the food being prepped and cooked. The food here is pretty good. We had the Mango Sticky Rice, which was sweet and delicious… I really liked this. The Gai Yang(Thai BBQ Chicken) was tasty, but I think I had a piece that was not cooked all the way through… Hmmm… It comes with Sticky Rice and Papaya Salad, which was delicious, but the portion is too small. The Tom Yung Goong(Spicy Sour Soup With Shrimp) was so flavorful… great spices… great taste, but too little shrimp(2 pieces) and too many hard pieces of lemon grass I had to spit out. The service and prices are great so I would probably try it again and try some different items.

Good Thai food. You can watch the cooks in front of you at the bar. It’s pricey for the food and the service you get. The initial contact is nice. They’re friendly, and the ordering system is easy. And they have an iPad as their terminal. After you order though, you pretty much get no service. I’d rather go somewhere that does.

I wasn’t feeling for Mexican food and the line at Eggslut was too long so I opted to go here instead. I ordered the Hainam Chicken for to-go and was surprisingly impressed! For $ 10, I got a decent amount of chicken, garlic rice, and chicken soup! I was full and satisfied after this meal. This meal was definitely worth the $ 10 that I spent! I will definitely come back and am looking forward to trying the BBQ Chicken next time I go here!

Upon my return from 3 months in Thailand(mostly in Chiang Mai), I had serious cravings akin to like pregnancy cravings. Hainan chicken BBQ Chicken, just like, get that, dude. I order something else on my first visit to Sticky Rice and had a bite of BBQ Chicken and game over. I don’t even remember what I got the first time. I’ve tried a couple other dishes here are they are all good, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that when you have the best of the best, you can’t really go back. I really like the casual sitting situation of the layout. Makes me feel like I’m at the night market in Chiang Mai again. I would like to try the Kao Soi at some point since that is just something that is very unique to the region. One comment I will make is that I wish the papaya salad would be the tiniest more tangy and spicy, but I understand why the flavors may be set a little milder in the States. OOH. Get the Thai Ice Tea. It’s Sticky Rice but at a location little further down on the left. If feeling adventurous, try the one with lemon, it’s quite good! I saw that there was Kanom krok, Thai Coconut pudding. Will definitely need to get that next time. Look at me, salivating at planning my next trip to Sticky Rice. Drool.

I’m a huge fan of Khao Soi and not every Thai place serves it. once i saw it on their menu, i knew what i was having for lunch… it was just a little bit spicy but overall it was incredibly delicious! my only concern was the small bones in a few pieces of the chicken. yikes! otherwise, i would go back for this any day of the week or month or year. tasty!

GETTHEBEEFPANANG. It’s rare that I can gobble up an entire meal in one sitting since I tend to eat smaller portions. However their panang is just so damn good. If your’e a light eater, the portion is somewhat shareable, if not, plan on ordering separately. Their menu is small, but has a variety. Located in the middle of GCM and next to McConnells, it may be hard to find a seat, but it’s well worth a short wait(there are probably only 12 seats at the bar)! Prices are and portions are fair. Parking is a pain because of course it’s DTLA. There is a lot across from GCM that’s around $ 6 for the day, or you can take the metro… there is an exit right around GCM. Definitely stop by Sticky Rice if you love Thai food and you plan on visiting the Downtown area.

Sticky rice has been on my bookmark for a while and I finally had a chance to try it the other day. The workers are nice and they quickly took my order and cleaned the table. They were smiling and it made me feel good just looking at them. I ordered their green curry with shrimp and my friend ordered the BBQ chicken. My curry was good with lots of vegetable but probably not something I would order again. My friend seemed to have enjoyed her chicken. Unfortunately it was so hot that day and eating inside a huge concrete building w/o AC was somewhat uncomfortable. I would love to come back and try something else next time on a cooler day.

My favorite and go-to stall at the Grand Central Market! Pros: –Food is amazingly delicious. The Thai Hainan Chicken and Thai BBQ Chicken are both tender and flavorful, but not overwhelmingly so. Sticky Rice provides a small side of sauce to eat with your dish and it pairs so well with the chicken! –Service is fast. The menu is pretty small, which helps since they’re not all over the place trying to cook this and that and this and that. You’ll have your order within minutes. –Thai iced tea is super yums. It’s on the sweet side though. Cons: –Seating can be a b*tch, depending on what time you go. They only have about 10 – 15 seats, so you really need to get lucky and keep your eyes on who’s about to leave. Trust me, the people standing around you will sprint to the next open seat available. Alternatively, you could walk around the market and find seating someplace else. –Portion sizes are small!!! :(. You will be content, but left wanting more. Overall, I love this place and always find myself coming back to it.

As a native Thai, I have to say I really like this place. It’s location, decoration, and ambiance literally brings me back to the streets of Bangkok where street food rules. There are now two Sticky Rice stalls at Grand Central Market with each stall serving up their separate menu. I do have to say that overall I have noticed their sauces and flavoring runs a tad on the sweet side for my palate– but they do the rest of it so well that I just forget it and gobble their dishes right up. 1. Hainan Chicken Rice($ 10) — Well, what can we say. I was brought up Thai but really my grandparents hail from Hainan, China. Pretty much making this dish my ultimate personal culinary anthem.(Which means I should probably learn to make this at home… But with so many good places to eat, who has time?!) Anyway, while I love this dish at Savoy in the SGV, Sticky Rice here nails it Thai style. What I mean is the rice is perfectly garlicky, the chicken is tender, moist, and not oily at all. It has great flavor and is complemented with a side of Thai style sauce. Pair it with the traditional soup broth served here. Perfect 10! And I don’t just mean the price of this dish. 2. Gai Yang($ 10) — Which in Thai means BBQ Chicken. Traditionally served Northeastern style with Thai sticky rice, sweet/spicy dipping sauce, and a side of papaya salad. What can I say… My dad grew up in northeastern Thailand, so again another nostalgic one for me. Here the chicken is cooked sous vide to tender perfection in a delicious saucy marinade, then placed on the sizzling grill to order. You sit there on the stools watching as your chicken takes on a perfect char on the skin. This is coming from a girl who hates chicken skin… Overall another delicious dish. And again for $ 10?! I heart you Sticky Rice. P. S. Swing around on your stool after you’re done eating for a scoop of Santa Barbara’s McConnell’s Ice Cream!

At a place named«Sticky Rice» you just have to go with their namesake dish right? I gotta say that of all the mango sticky rice plates I’ve had, this one just might be the masterpiece. At $ 7 for a full order it also happens to perhaps be slightly cheaper than other Thai places. I had my mango sticky rice to-go so it didn’t look as impressive as it does when plated and served at Grand Central Market but it still had pretty good presentation. The condensed milk was splashed on evenly and the black sesame was sprinkled on tastefully. However the best part is the sticky rice with the mango being a strong complement. The sticky rice was the right texture and very flavorful. The mango was ripe and without a bruise on it. It was perfect not too young and not too ripe. Every time I’m at GCM I just want to go back here for their Mango sticky rice.

Initially I was confused. On one side of the stand, I think, you order all of your rice dishes. The other side, on the other hand, offers a sampling of noodles dishes. Whatever the case. Good. So good. Order the Gaiyang– BBQ chicken. Their BBQ chicken is bomb. It’s so succulent, tender, and juicy… it’s ridiculous. On top of that, it comes with a side of sticky rice(mine was magically coconut) and a side of papaya salad all for $ 9. I can’t emphasize how good the chicken is. It’s tender and the skin is slightly char-coiled with a slight crispy. I also had their Northern Thai sausage that came with veggies and rice for $ 9. Pretty good. Not my favorite, but I get it. I would definitely come back to try out other dishes.
