Specialties

We specialize in gourmet brownies. However, Sweets for the Soul is really all about the c h o c o l a t e. More specifically, VALRHONA chocolate, a French chocolate used by some of the world’s leading pastry chefs. Currently, there are 12 different kinds of brownies available. We also have some Gluten Free options. Our Billionaire Bliss cookie, shortbread, caramel, chocolate and fleur de sel, is very popular!

We bake on the premises. All of our ingredients are pure and fresh. We try to use as many organic ingredients as possible (i.e. flour & eggs). We use high quality Madagascar Vanilla.

We have cupcakes. Not your typical cupcakes.

Salted Caramel, Sno Balls, Organic Peanut Butter and Jelly, Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Buttercream to name a few. And now we are serving Intelligentsia Coffee, Espresso and Lattes to start your mornings off right or for an afternoon pick me up.

We have the capacity to deal with caterers for wedding favors, large parties and events. Our shot size brownies are perfect for those occasions.

History

Established in 2007.

We started out online exclusively in Oct. 2007, shipping corporate and personal gifts across the country. As a result we have fans nationwide.

An article in the LA Times in January 2008 boosted our popularity and alerted people to the pending opening of our shop in Atwater Village.

Lilly L.

Business Owner

Bringing the gourmet experience to the public has been a dream of Sweets for the Soul founder, Lilly, for years. Her dream turned into reality a few years ago after her diagnosis of breast cancer inspired her to alter her lifestyle. A TV Commercial and Music Video Producer turned Brownie Baker, Lilly still puts her film business experience to use in the kitchen. She demands perfection in her work. She’s also a firm believer that quality far outweighs quantity (pardon the pun), an approach that Europeans have embraced for ages and one that Lilly would like to instill in our culture, as well.

A Brooklyn native and California resident for 35 years, Lilly has traveled and seen the world, broadening her sense of tastes and flavors. She is constantly dreaming up new recipes to excite the public!

I was in the area and decided come to my favorite bakery in Atwater.
I cannot stress how amazing their brownies are. I brought my vegan friend and he is in love with their vegan brownies. Their vegan brownies will seriously blow your taste buds away!!! However, my all time favorite is the brownie bliss !!!
This is the place to order your v-​day sweets.

The food and coffee is amazing. All of the brownies are perfect, their peanut butter bar is insane. They really nail it on the food which is nice. I give it 3 stars though because I’ve been here at least 20 times over the past year and a half and half the time I’m in they are not very nice to me. It just seems like they don’t care about my service, and another time a girl pressured me and my boyfriend to order by looking at us intensely while we were just talking amongst ourselves. The vibes have been really weird, lacking social grace HALF the time. The other issue I have is the hours. They don’t stay open too late, so if after dinner at canele you want dessert they’re not there.

I Love Sweets for Soul!!! One of my co workers gave me this cute little box of delicious goodness for my birthday and I was sold! I love their presentation and various brownie flavors. Definitely a modern day love affair for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Hotter shot: This was a little too spicy for me.
Salted caramel shot: This was really good. There wasn’t too much salt in it.
Peanut butter: This had a really strong peanut butter taste. Definitely good for those who love peanut butter.
Venezuelan:This had a strong bitter taste like coffee.
Smore: I liked the marshmallow on this because they made it themselves. Very light.
Chocolate shot: Who doesn’t love chocolate? Chocolatey.
Even though it’s a little pricey, it’s worth a try. All of them seemed fresh and worth it.
Service was good. I was able get the ones that I wanted. A few of them ran out and they were able to bring some fresh ones from the back.
I’ll definitely come back here when I’m in the area.

Lily is the best. We came here two years ago prior to our wedding. We ordered 350 individual brownie bites and our wedding cake. Everything was ready the day of and the desserts were a huge hit.
With desserts I’m a big believer that you never need more than 1 bite. Thus my go to are the brownie bites. Personal favorites are the spicy chocolate and the blonde.
Not much room to sit inside but it’s oddly never packed. Come in, grab your treat and eat it on the way home.
Seasonally they make butterscotch crème puffs and various pumpkin delicacies.

Another win for Atwater village! I randomly stopped in after visiting Corona tacos just down the street. I got an affogato, and actually enjoyed it! The ice cream tasted great, and it was not overly melted by the espresso; so it created a nice mixture of flavors for a refreshing afternoon treat.

Sweets For The Soul, is a perfect example of getting what you pay for. If you want the cheapest, or largest treats on the block, this is not the place for you. However, if you want the best, this is it. For me, nothing in Atwater Village comes close to Sweets.
Beyond the treats, everything about this little biz is great. From the quality to the staff, Lily has just created something so special. If you haven’t been, go! Let one of the girls make a suggestion. If you give it a chance, you will be back. Guaranteed.

Hands down. Love this place. Let me first address the price thing people are complaining about. They use only the highest quality chocolates and ingredients. if you want some cheap low quality taste that is unsatisfying, go spend 1.25 on a chocolate bar. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and stop penny pinching so you can treat yourself to a refined treat that will leave you satisfied rather than bloated. And it really isn’t right to degrade the star rating based on price when that is not at all an indication of the quality of the food.
Whether you want unique rich brownies of all varieties, — dark dark chocolate, peanut butter in the center, topped with delicious caramel, blonde brownies — or cronuts on the weekends, lavender cookies, chocolate chip potato chips, and cupcakes, this is really a sweet place to go. Treat yourself to fine sweets unlike any others, especially if you love chocolate!

Probably the best salted caramel brownie in the city! Everything in this place looks amazing so it’s hard to pick things to take home. The brownie shots are incredible so pick a few, then come back for more. And you will! The Obama Browine, heart-​shaped brownie with choco chunks, and Billionaire Bliss are over the top amazing. Service is friendly and helpful too.

Whoa Nelly. Extremely overpriced. My wife paid 3.60 for a very dry shortbread/​pb/​choc. bar. It was also loaded with salt on top. Too much salt is too salty (ya think). I don’t get the high prices. Tiny cookies for 1.85, one bite of a brownie for over 2.00? Does rent cost that much in the area? I don’t know, the desserts looked much better to me a couple doors down. I’ll skip this place, thank you very much.

It’s so important to listen to what your body is telling you, isn’t it? And when your body is saying «Brownie and ice cream, brownie and ice cream, brownie and ice cream!», you should show that you are listening by providing the very best brownie and ice cream ever. I am going to tell you how to do that.
I was strolling up and down Glendale Ave., wondering what it was like to to be a hipster (too old) or an old hippie (too young), when I happened upon this lovely store. I stuck my head in and asked if, perchance, they sold brownies. «We specialize in them», the lady behind the counter said, with just a tiny hint of a «Duh!», not enough to be rude but enough to make me realize that maybe I *should* start thinking about getting one of those fancy new phones or at least open my eyes and look around when I walk into a place.
«Great!», I said. «I’ll take one. By any chance do you also have ice cream?»
Yes. Done deal.
And I was served one warmed, heart-​shaped, absolutely deliciously gooey chocolate brownie with the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had.
And I was in heaven.
Apparently, the same pastry chef who made the brownie made the ice cream. Is there such a thing as an «ice cream chef»? ‘Cause she needs to call herself that from now on.
Coffee? Eh. It was an Intelligentsia slow-​pour (aka pour-​over). Intelligentsia coffee has never done it for me and that hasn’t changed.
Parking was free right in front ’cause it’s Sunday, of course.

I’m so glad this spot is within walking distance of my house. I’ve had almost everything they offer — ice cream, panna cotta, brownies, cronuts, even their pour over Intelligentsia coffee. I don’t mind paying over $ 3 for a brownie since I know they are made fresh, in house. I’ve been to other bakeries where they pass off institutionalized/​mass produced desserts as their own — no thanks. There’s no telling what preservatives, fat, etc. hide in those types of desserts.
The staff and owner have always been welcoming and patient in answering questions — I love Sweets for the Soul!

Came in and immediately knew I would not come back.
Service was lackluster but thats not a thing that will keep me from good food.
I had the brownie bliss and cocoa bliss. $ 8 bucks for two tiny brownies. The pictures on here make them look decent but they are tiny.
Tasted and its only okay. Not coming back.

3.5 This review is solely for the croissant donut and nothing more. I’d have to come back to try the other goodies — especially brownies, but the prices were a smidgen too high to add on to the croissant donut.
We got the crème filled with strawberries croissant donut which seemed a lot more like a crème filled puff pastry rather than a croissant… or a donut. But I tasted the care and effort and savored every bite of it. She can’t just pump them out like other places do and it takes her some time (as making croissants is a laborious task) — which is why they’re only offered on Fridays and Saturdays.
It’s not the best I’ve had, but it’s worth a shot and your money (most especially if you’ve never had one, and even more especially if you’re in that area).
I gave the subliminal extra star because the lady was so personable and sweet. I really liked that.
Metered parking or street parking if you can find some and don’t mind the walk.

Yes they are pricey but they have this thing called a «six –pack.» They bites-​sized brownies of various flavors that are really more like 2 large bites. It’s packaged nicely in a long narrow box and they will add, for your convenience, a sticker with the names of these bite-​sized brownies and their descriptions… inside the box, beside the brownies.
Aside from that I was able to taste a slice of the Obama Brownie. Now THAT was really good traditional brownie.
Hotter Shot
Description: Walrhona 70% dark chocolate spiced with cayenne pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and more.
Verdict: LOVE! With that list of strong spices, I thought I was going to hate it. But it’s more sublte than you’d think. You really won;t notice the spices’ presence until after you’ve consumed the brownie. And it’s not hot at all.
Salted Caramel Brownie
Description: Valrhona coca base with fleur de sel laced with caramel.
Verdict: Awesome!!! The caramel is not too sweet. The salt was perfect.
S’More
Description: Housemade graham cracker & shortbread crust filled with dark chocolate ganache, topped with artisan marshmallow.
Verdict: Not a brownie. More like a tart. The crust was good. The ganache was good. The marshmallow was good (although I usually hate marshmallows so this is high praise for me). But what makes a s’more for me is the melting chocolate and gooey mallows so this has got to go in my bottom 2 list.
Peanut Butter Shot
Description: Walrhona cocoa base with organic peanut butter topped with peanut brittle.
Verdict: The husband, an avid peanut fan, loved it. This went to my bottom 2 list.
Honey Lavender
Description: Honey, white walrhona chocolate, lavender.
Verdict: Top 2! It’s like I’m in the spa while I’m slowly savoring each and every bite. It’s like breathing in a field full of lavenders. It’s like my tongue is getting a massage. It’s like I’m lying on my goose-​feathered bed on a rainy Saturday morning. ll It’s an experience eating this brownie, which isn’t brown at all but a blondie.

Description: 70% dark chocolate in their cocoa base.
Verdict: For the «traditiona» and «plain» brownie variety, this is MONEY!

I ate a Blondie today. The Blondie was so distinct in taste and overpowering in a pleasant manner.
We walked in to a small store with a couple of tables, a couple of chairs and a bench. We saw another table with two chairs outside the window. We were kindly greeted by the employee who served us and accepted our payment. We saw an assortment of goodies and selected right away.
This was my first time eating a Blondie at this store. The Blondie had a flavor reminding me of caramel, cake, butterscotch and many sweet things.
Parking was easy like Sunday Morning but I cannot vouch for Monday through Saturday especially since there is a 2 hour limit meter in this area. Thankfully you can pay the meter with your credit card, I do not believe they take ebt.
I am not sure where I will eat my next Blondie but I can see myself coming back here when in the area.
