Sylvan Learning of Los Angeles

Sylvan is AWESOME! This Sylvan location is the best I’ve seen. I’ve moved around a few states and have studied at a few different Sylvan Locations. I’ve tried other learning centers, but found that you don’t get the personal care and expertise like you do at Sylvan, especially this one. Everyone is really helpful, kind and makes sure you’re getting the best service you can get. On top of all that, it’s fun! My sister now goes there too. She loves it. Her grades have improved tremendously and she is so much more confident in school. I’d highly recommend Sylvan for anyone struggling with school whether it’s in elementary, middle or high school. They even have college prep courses so you can be sure all you’re educational goals will be achieved.

After struggling and fighting with my kid over homework and having them reach a level of math that I, sadly, couldn’t figure out myself (6^th grade math I am embarrassed to admit), I brought my kid to Sylvan. It was worth every penny. When I tried to help with math we’d both end up sniping at each other, frustrated, and half the homework would be wrong. The way I learned math is very different than how my child is being taught at school and just getting the right answer isn’t enough sometimes because the teacher wants to see the work and it has to be done using arrays and other techniques that I have zero clue how to do. We worked with a few different teachers and all of them were great. We only did homework so I don’t know what the other tutoring is like. My child has moved on to math that they actually understand so we no longer go, but I’d go back for sure if needed.

I had a the worst possible experience here. I was in a big rush to start my son. I initially wanted to know what their pricing was but they could not give me that information until after he took a proctored practice exam…$ 125.00. Our time was limited because we were prepping for the ACT exam which is in 3 weeks. I paid the money but then had to wait 3 more days for someone to get back to me. At that point they wanted me to come in to «discuss» my son’s score. I explained that I had no time for that. I just wanted to know what his score was and how much their services cost. I was willing to send him the next day and begin. They told me that could not give me any of that information over the phone… I had to come in and «discuss» it with them. I insisted I could not and finally got the education director on the phone to give me our scores. She told me (a little irritated, which was fine, I knew I was asking them to accommodate me in a way that were not used to) that my son scored a 12. I suggested to her that this was not possible since my son had already had two practice tests that he received a 24 and then a 29 on. She insisted that she had proctored my son’s test herself… that there was no mistake and that the average score was a 20. She then suggest I pay a minimum of $ 1,400 a max of $ 2,300 for tutoring. I told her again that something was wrong. My son is an A student and has five AP courses this semester. He had also just received his PSAT score that day and it was quite high. She was smug and told me should would email me the results… Guess what? There was an error. My son actually scored a 28. As EDUCATION DIRECTOR she should have realized that it is only kids that are struggling in school or have other educational issues that score so poorly on the ACT. I have asked for a refund which I know they will issue. This was as bad as dealing with a slippery used car salesman… and a disgruntled DMV employee. It is not that often that I come across people that are so inefficient at doing their jobs… I am sorry that reviews like this hurt small businesses… I work really hard at my job to provide excellence. I make it a point to write reviews for establishments that offer stellar service. Stay away from here.

Started Sylvan begrudgingly due to the cost but caught a break with a promotional sale.
Looking back the money spent was so worth it!
Staci the director genuinely cares. She makes my son feel as though he matters.
Yesterday she went above and beyond by accompanying my husband and I to a Counselors meeting at his High School.
It’s a Blessing to have found Sylvan.

I like the teachers and the facility. More important my nephew likes it. He’s almost 6 and is behind in reading. He’s comes after school so I wanted something that didn’t feel like he was still in school. They have a fun way of teaching and he looks forward to going. I’ll review after our session up to see how his reading has improved.
Yes it’s expensive but they have a loan system that you can pay back in 24 months with no interest. So don’t let the price scare you.

please don’t come here. this place is a scam. they charge you $ 99 dollars to take a placement test and afterwards they call you in and tell you that the program will cost you $ 4,000 dollars. one is under the impression that you can pay per class, but they want it up front. save your time and money. go to some other learning center where they don’t scam you like this.
