This is a little hole in the wall restaurant. The place is dirty and not very attractive inside. The waitstaff ignored us for a long time, before we were out finally. On the plus side my tacos were pretty good. They have no fountain instead you have to order soda and can’t, which I hate. I won’t be back.

Good spot I stop on my way to work, they open 4:30 am, the masa is better than Liliana’s Tamales

I was in desperation trying to find a new spot to buy some Tamales this Christmas. I went to Lillianas(line around the block). Tried Gallo Bakery(packed!). I found this place and took a chance. I’m honestly glad I did. I bought a dozen of the queso con chile and another of pork. BOMB. My family loved them and will definitely will be going back next year but of course try to order ahead of time so I’m not standing in the front door looking like a beggar.

This place is so good the prices are not bad the tamales are way better here than at Lilianas. I hope these people don’t make the same mistake Lilianas did and let their food go to crap. Anyways the point of this review is that the food in this place is really really good

Christmas Eve 2015 at 5pm, I only waited 10min over 1hr+ at Lilliana’s. These smell so good, may have kicked someone to the curb…

my new favorite tamal spot. omg it’s so good. i’ve never had tamales de chicharron, but they were delicious. prices are very reasonable. it’s a small place, so if you can take it to go and it at home, you’re set. the tortillas are all made at the restaurant. the champurrado is also very good.

I dropped in for the first time tonight. There was another Mexican restaurant at this location a few years ago. My pal had the Birria and he agrees with all the other praise heaped on that dish in the other reviews. He also liked the hand made tortillas. The place itself isn’t anything special. The dining room is tiny, and cramped with junk, like decorative kerosene lamps. Hundreds of them, and tons of other useless junk. It was a very chilly night tonight, but they had their air conditioner on full blast, and all six ceiling fans going. I guess they couldn’t feel the chill in the kitchen, and behind the counter. So we took our order to go. Plenty of free off street parking.

Was looking for a good alternative to moms cooking. Nailed it. Rice and beans and tamales on point. Have not tried anything else but I will considering this place is located a block away.

I agree with Mr Carlos’ review of the beef birria. It is off the hook. They don’t cheat you out of the consome either. I’m obsessed.

Love, love, love these tamales! Chicken and green chile. The chicken is clean and the masa is light and delicious. Very fresh. The cheese and jalapeño tamales are also really, really good! I love that they’re open very early, before work.

I went on an impromptu tamale tour in East LA and this was stop #3. I can’t say I’m a fan of the tamales here. There were only 3 options given to me. Chicken, Pork and cheese. I asked if they had the bean and cheese one other Unilocalers mentioned but they said no. So I ordered pork and cheese. The cheese wasn’t melted and it wasn’t that good. The masa on the tamale was soft but wasn’t flavorful. There was no salsa on the tamale. Overall, okay, not good. The pork tamale had a red sauce on it and while more flavorful than the cheese, the huge chunks of pork was bland. The masa was also soft but was over the tamale after 2 bites. The champurrado was okay too. This was my first time tasting champurrado and while it was thick, it felt like it was thickened using some kind of flour. The flavor was okay It was pretty cheap for the tamales. $ 1.25 for each one.

Excellent red pork tamales and green chicken tamales. I’m not a big fan of the cheese tamales… they’re just ok. The champurrado is delicious too. Cash only.

This place is pretty cool. The décor is very nice. It has a nice cozy Mexican feel. The tamales are delicious. I don’t have a favorite, they’re all great! The champurado is probably the best I’ve had outside of the one my aunt makes. You won’t be disappointed.

Awesome tamales!!! Really juicey, well proportioned, and not greasy. My favorite ones are the chicharon tamales. All of them are great for kids too because they are not too spicey.

They have excellent tamales especially the bean and cheese con rajas! The red pork tamales are filled with lots of meat! I love that they remind me if my mother’s unbeatable masa! These are the first tamales that bring me such good memories if my mother’s tamales! You must try! Living in ELA all my life and happy to highly recommend this place to my fellow Unilocalers!
