The Dog House

Took my puppy to be groomed here recently, the groomer Aj was really great with her and did an amazing job! Supper friendly service and the facility was very clean and smelled fresh. Will be coming back soon :)

The man who answers the phone is very rude. Bad customer service! Also I brought my dog here before but it still smelled like wet dog and stinky and even had fleas!

I was on vacation and needed to send by dogs to daycare for a day. The place I usually take them in LA was full. I called The Dog House last minute and Michelle agreed to meet my dogs so I could send them to daycare the next day. She is one of those people that has a special gift when it comes to animals. I felt very comfortable leaving them there and will definitely use The Dog House for daycare the next time I am in LA.

I’m often in LA on business. Most of the time I have a house sitter who stays with my 8 year old lab LuLu. I had to bring lulu with me last week and needed doggie daycare for her last minute. The Dog House was wonderful. I brought lulu in to meet the staff and they met her-​standard procedure in the doggie daycare world. Lulu came back the next day and they cared for her well! I was able to schedule a bath and nail clipping as well. The staff had their own dogs there and they were well groomed, behaved and loved. That for me was a big indicator as to the fact that my lulu would be cared for well. I picked her up and all was well. If you’re looking for a place that will treat your dog as if he/​she was their own and a place that likes animals and is experienced in working with them, The Dog House is the place to go.

If I could give The Dog House a negative star, I would! I live within walking distance. Super cute outside. So I call to set up a grooming appointment for my dog, and when asked the breed, I informed them that I’ve had her since a pup, I rescued her, she’s now two. I think she’s a boxer/​pit mix or a boxer/​ridgeback…” before I could even finish my sentence, the girl on the other end of the phone said «NO! NOPE!» Baffled, I asked «Noooo…you don’t have any available appointments?» «WE DON’T TAKE PITS! No Pit of any kind!!» How dare you! My dog is the sweetest, most lovable, sweetie pie in town! I cannot believe you call yourself dog lovers, but you DISCRIMINATE AGAINST PIT BULLS! You should be ashamed!

It’s been long overdue for my review but I just have to say something after A.W. response on ¹⁄₁₆.
The Dog House LA does an exceptional job and my 2 fur babies love coming here everyday for almost a year now!!! The atmosphere is pleasant with lots of TLC. Michelle and her staff watches over the dogs as if they were their own. When you have to bring your fur babies to daycare everyday, it puts your mind at easy knowing your loved one will be in great hands.
About the staff:
The entire staff is friendly, polite, and caring. I cannot thank them enough for what they do for me!
Michelle is very knowledgeable in dog care and training, AJ does a fantastic job with grooming, and Jeff has gotten me out of a bind by dropping off my fur babies at home when my car was in the shop and I was home sick with the flu. What also warms my heart is that they also participate in various animal shelters and charities in the city.
About the daycare:
I would recommend this place to anyone who is in need of daycare.
The daycare is clean. The hours are from 7-​to 7. They close at 7 but there is a 30 min window as things come up like traffic and late afternoon meetings. The cost for grooming and or daycare are excellent especially if you have more than one dog and you buy a 10 or 20 pack. Drop off and pick up are easy as there are several places to park. You can either park on the street but you also have the option to park in the neighborhood. (a safe quite family oriented neighborhood.) They even have a small area where you can buy organic food, treats, skin care for dogs, and accessories. Almost a one stop shop! All dogs that come here are super sweet and play well together. There are not separated by size, (which I love the concept !) so in the beginning there is an interview, meet and greet, along with a trial period to ensure your loved one is a good fit for the daycare. This is a place where you would want to bring your dog for socialization big or small, and with almost any breed.
They do have a dog policy about certain breeds as do many of the doggy daycare facilities in the area. It’s not discrimination, they have to ensure the safety of the staff along with all the dogs they care for. I highly recommend that you check out The Dog House for additional information as Michelle does a wonderful job in explaining the facility.

I took my dog here, but was turned away at the front door. I was immediately offended by the reason why and wanted to elaborate through the following form of expression:
Do you take your dog to parks? Is your dog afraid of bigger dogs at the park? Do you want your dog to be social around all types of dogs? If you answered YES to any, or all of these, then do not go here.
Any place that discriminates against certain dog breeds fosters negative reinforcement towards those particular types of dogs. In other words, your dog will grow up and become OR after going to this place will be influenced to have hatred/​fear/​negative associations towards that discriminated type of dog.
Do the right thing with your animal, no matter the size, and get them social around ALL types of dogs. Don’t discriminate, or if you do it is likely that you will have more difficulty training your dog to behave around those types of dogs.

We have been taking our Old English Sheepdog to The Dog House for years to get washed and brushed and they have always done an amazing job! Our dog has very sensitive skin and her coat mats easily. She was a mess when we brought her last time, but the groomer worked wonders and she looked amazing when we picked her up. While they worked on her and realized how bad her mats were, they called us to discuss options of shaving or thinning the hair and then did exactly what we asked them to, and even better than we imagined! The owner and her staff are caring, dog-​loving people. Exactly what you want in a doggy day care /​grooming place. We absolutely recommend The Dog House, especially if you need long hair dog grooming!

Great place, staff, great services, great prices, great care.
I had been taking my beloved Labrador Joey to The Doghouse for roughly 6 years, once a week, from 2004 – 2010. The only downside was that we moved out of the area in 2010.
I had taken Joey to various doggie daycares in the area, none compared to The Doghouse. Unlike other daycares where Joey was always reluctant to enter, he LOVED going to The Doghouse, so much so he would always jump up against the gate to get inside!
Their staff was always friendly and always remembered Joey’s name. This is one of the few places where the staff will actually play with the dogs. Many other places avoid playing for fear of dog fights. But with Joey, they always found time to play ball with him. Joey always came home tired after a day of ball. On hot days, they standup a mini doggie pool. For dogs who get too active sometimes, they have a penalty box/​room to calm down dogs. I admit, Joey got too humpy some days and I was told he went into the penalty box a few times. Can’t blame him, tons of good tail!
At the time I was a customer, they offered 10-​visit and 20-​visit discounts. Not sure if those are still available. They also offered grooming services, discounted if you included daycare. I would order up a bath for Joey every 3 – 4 weeks, he would be both tired and clean whenever I’d pick him up… the perfect deal. They get booked for grooming, always a good idea to make an appointment for those services in advance.
Also loved that they were open on Saturdays, though the hours were slightly shorter than weekdays. They technically closed at 6pm on weekdays back when I went, they were always great about allowing me to pickup Joey as late at 7pm; they were still there cleaning up anyways. So nice of them!
I loved their staff so much, when one of them had her last day, I brought Joey back one last time to say goodbye even though we now live an hour away.
Joey has since passed, but if I lived in the area again and had another pup, I would 100% go back to The Doghouse.

My puppy has been going here for a few weeks now and we absolutely love it. Why?
Drop-​off/​pick-​up: super easy. You don’t need to give them notice! Just show up after they open and before they close! They even have a little rack for the leashes.
Snacks: since our puppy eats a lunch we leave a little container of food for him and refill it every week or so! Makes everything easy peasy.
Store front: the outside is super cute. The inside is well/​protected. It smells clean, the selection of food and treats out front is high quality, and the people who work there are lovely and knowledgable.
Dogs: I know some people complain about breed discrimination, but it’s also hard when you’re trying to run a business. Not that I think it’s a GOOD idea to limit it to pit puppies and not fully grown ones, but I can see why they would make that a policy. The interview process was great. Very reassuring. They socialized our pup with other puppies and some fully grown dogs as well. They separate puppies from older dogs on the floor, largely for play/​vaccination purposes. Totally makes sense.
Staff: everyone I’ve met really cares about the dogs, always has fun updates, and has a great personality.
All in all — I love recommending this place to people. It’s an awesome location with a great staff and I definitely trust my puppy in their hands!

I am incredibly upset with this place and will never return.
We dropped our retriever off at 10:00 am, by 3 we had still not heard anything so we called and the guy said he was just getting to our dog. Then we get a ring at 5:30 pm to pick our dog up. My boyfriend picks him up and when they come home I am shocked at my dogs hair cut. Never have I seen such a terrible cut. Never! I am embarrassed to take my dog out in public. It is uneven, his head looks like a mistake ball of fluff. It is terrible.
Never ever going back here!

This place is great! They interview your dog with other sized dogs and temperaments before they accept a new member to the pack, that’s a great idea because obviously you don’t want to make doggy waves.
Any time I bring my dog, Professor, in and drop him off for a day of playing I’m 100% confident that when I pick him up he’ll be dead tired at home that night.
The first time I took him, that night he fell asleep in the passenger seat by the time we got home so, tired dog = happy evening.
Everyone knows every dog in there, they’re personal.

Very disappointed to have had The Dog House give me my first personal experience with BREED DISCRIMINATION.
I called to set up a temperament evaluation with my dog (a small, 30 lb pit/​boston terrier mix). I informed them that my dog was a pit mix and they scheduled an appointment for me.
When I arrived, I was told that they don’t accept any pits or pit mixes. Apparently this is because the people at the dog house have decided that all pitbulls are unable to play well with any dogs that are not also pitbulls. Talk about a blanket statement! My dog has been going to various doggie daycares for years and has consistently played well with dogs of all types and sizes. Had The Dog House allowed her to take the temperament test, maybe they would have learned that.
Dogs should be accepted based on their individual personalities and temperament test results. To block a specific breed from even being able to take the test is BREED DISCRIMINATION AT ITS FINEST!
It is inconveniences like this (not being able to find daycares) that prevent people from adopting pits from shelters leading to thousands of unnecessary euthanizations every year.
The craziest part of all this– THEY ACCEPT PIT BULL PUPPIES BUT NOT ADULTS! So I guess pits are ok when they are cute and cuddly puppies but then scary when they are adults. This makes The Dog House is the business version of those awful people that adopt a puppy and then dump it back at the shelter when its not so cute and little anymore.
If you are a supporter of pitbulls or against BSL — do not take your business here.

we have also had 2 previous dogs who have come here for grooming over the years. we got them thru our neighbor’s referral.
been taking our dog for grooming here for the longest time. our Blue may be scared of her grooming time (where I have to «pretend» I am coming with her …) but they definitely do a job well done. they always make sure she comes home sparkling!

This place is Awsome ! Their first priority is the dogs! And most doggy daycare’s aren’t like that anymore ! The dog house is quality not quantity !

The folks at The Dog House are AMAZING! I was walking my dog about 2 miles from their location, when my Australian Terrier rolled in the most awful smelling wet mush I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t able to take a taxi home due to the smell (about 4 miles away) or walk the long distance home. I popped in The Dog House and they immediately took my dog to the back for a quick wash and de-​stink. I had no appointment and had never been there before, but they were so kind and accommodating. My dog was clean and fresh in about 10 minutes and the price was extremely reasonable! The Dog House was fantastic! I’ll definitely be back!

I have been bringing my dogs to The Dog House for more than eight years now, six days a week and cannot say enough about them. Personally, I am very involved in animal rescue and have cared for many dogs over my 25 years of being a caretaker. I have never actually chosen the dog myself they just seem to find me and I can never say no. Many of them come as special-​needs dogs but that makes no difference to me.
Michelle and her outstanding staff are extremely knowledgeable and have treated all of my dogs that have attended there with the utmost love and care. The entire staff’s knowledge seem to cover not only each and every dogs behavior but also nutritional and supplement guidance as well.
The prices there are outstanding and I wouldn’t consider taking my pups anywhere else. It may not be the fanciest place in town but in my view it is the best.

I love this place and so do my dogs! My german shep mix was 3 months when she first got a bath from The Doghouse and she is now 10 years old! Now she and my cocker come here for a bath and daycare. I drop them off around 9am and pick them up at ⁴⁄₅!
I took my german shep mix to a different groomer a few times because it was closer to my new place and she did not like it at all! When she goes to The Doghouse she is full of anticipation in the car, jumps out of the car because she is so excited (and she hates baths) and she comes home exhausted. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful and I can tell that they truly enjoy working with dogs. They always remember my dogs’ names and are super kind to them… and my german shep is a lil crazy so they can handle a lot!

When I relocated to the area, the transition was easy peasy for me. But for the baby girl, I had to make sure she became a L.A. dog. To say the least, she deserves all the pampering from time to time. After a few months, I finally took her in for the bath and full grooming service. I called the day before and they kindly told me to bring her in the next morning. The best part, to accommodate my work schedule they said to bring her in as early as 7:30 AM. Luckily that was not an issue, so I brought her in around 10 AM and she was done, and also lookin’ fresh by 1 PM. My dog could be a bit aggressive with her barking, but they were really nice about it and allocated space for her so she would not bother the other dogs there. The grooming was great. I just wanted a simple groom, but they made sure to ask specifically how short I wanted to the cut around the body, face and tail.
When I was walking here home, she definitely turned a few heads.
