History

Established in 2014.

The Loft La Brea Elite Men’s Grooming was conceived of in the fall of 2013 when Michael Casey got tired of grinding away in a barber shops that just didn’t suit his fancy. He decided that at the beginning of the upcoming year that he wanted to create a barber shop environment for himself and his clients that felt like a home away from home in a world where cultural escapades meet dream atmosphere. When new people walk into The Loft La Brea the first thing they remark is that it has a lot of character. It took four months to establish the ambiance that makes people feel like they just had lunch in Mandela’s pool house and then went to a Fela Kuti concert. At the five month mark the shop felt like it was a staple in the Mid-Wilshire community.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael C.

Business Owner

Michael Casey began cutting hair at the tender age of twelve when his father came home with a pair of rickety clippers and told his oldest son that he was cutting his hair from now on because he was tired of him wasting money at the barber shop. Ingenuity made Michael tell his father that we would rather take his chances cutting his own hair and he never looked back. He began cutting his family members, neighbors, and even classmates. His teachers would let him bring his clipper to class and cut students and even other teachers in the back of the room while class was being orchestrated. Having already enrolled in Barber College at the age of sixteen, his teacher felt like Michael was already a pro. Barber College was arduous because all the barbers wanted him to cut their hair which conflicted with clients being serviced. Nonetheless, He graduated with high acclaim, became a barber instructor apprentice, a platform artist, and a multiple shop owner.
