The Singing Place

My experience with this school was not good. The teachers do not teach technique to absolute beginners. They have you singing along with singers on youtube!!! They do not take the time nor do they care to take the time to teach proper singing technique. I wrote a review that was taken down because according to Unilocal it did not meet the criteria of their guidelines. I would like to let Unilocal know that one of the instructors from this school was harassing me via e-​mail constantly because of my first review. Sorry, to say that my experience was not pleasant at this school. All they care about is money!!!

My daughter has been taking lessons from Kelly for 2 months now and we are very happy. Kelly allows my daughter to pick the songs that she wants to sing, which makes her incredibly engaged in the process.
Kelly works on pitch, tone, phrasing, volume, breathing, performance.
If you are looking for a singing teacher in the LA area, Kelly is the Best!

Both of my kids (4 and 9 year old) have been taking lessons from Kathleen for about 1 year now. Kathleen is very good in teaching the kids, starting with the practice, technique and then the song of their choice. The kids performed twice at a showcase so far and enjoyed it both times. As time goes, my kids slowly build up their confidence in singing in front of many people. I am very glad that we found The Singing Place and will definitely recommend this place. We are very fortunate to have met Kathleen, she is one of the sweetest persons we have ever met.

I took voice lessons a year or so ago before I moved to Los Angeles but never felt like I made very much progress. I’d also tried on and off to teach myself how to sing by watching YouTube videos and buying DVD’s. After a few months of lessons with Kelly, I sang «I Want It That Way» by the Backstreet Boys at karaōke in a bar in Montréal. Every cute French Canadian girl in the bar sang along and thought I was awesome. The lessons paid for themselves in that one night.

Kelly is the most amazing teacher ever! If you are fortunate enough to find her, don’t let her go!
I was blessed to find Kelly just a few months ago and she is literally changing my life. Over the years, I had sung professionally with a number of bands and artists but was never happy with the way I sounded – singing felt like a struggle to me.
In just the last 2 weeks with Kelly, I’ve learned what I’d been trying to find for the past 10 years. I’m revisiting parts of old songs that I struggled with before and, with the new technique, everything is sooo diifferent! My voice has never been so smooth, rich and powerful. Singing is becoming more and more effortless every day. I feel like someone just handed me a Ferrari before I even learned how to drive!
I know I have a lot of work to do but I’m confident that with Kelly I’ll be able to sing whatever I want. Thank you so much, you are incredible!

I was fortunate enough to have my boyfriend find this place and get me a months worth of classes with Kathleen. He did A LOT of research before he decided on this place and it was the absolute best thing EVER! Kathleen is so encouraging and amazing with how she breaks everything down that as a student you get it right away. You get undivided and customized attention each time and I’ve been able to take my voice to places I had never thought I could.
I continued after my month was up and it’s the best money I ever spend, worth every penny! Kathleen even encouraged me to join her and the other students at her Christmas recital she puts on every year and it was the most amazing time!!! This placed has help me not only with my voice but given me great confident and support In many aspects of my life. It is so much more then «just» the singing place! You will not regret coming here!

Kelly has been my vocal coach for the last 6 months and she has helped me immensely in improving my pop voice. I have classical vocal training (15+ years), but I wanted to transition to a pop sound. I have tried to teach myself, but this is obviously one of those things where I needed a professional. And given that I have had professional training, I am very picky about who teaches me. As soon as I walked in, Kelly pinpointed my issues and knew exactly how to fix it. Within a month, my voice vastly improved and within 3, everybody kept remarking how amazing I sounded! I feel so much more confident singing ALL types of songs from pop to country to gospel, and that is because of Kelly and her true understanding of all voice types. My last but possibly most important point is that Kelly not only taught me how to sing pop, but she taught me how to sing it correctly and in a healthy manner. So many people teach belting but in a way that can cause vocal chord damage and lead to an early singing retirement, but with Kelly’s techniques, I know that I can sing for hours comfortably, without pain or muscle weakness, knowing that I am not hurting myself or my future singing. :) I have absolutely loved working with Kelly at the Singing Place and I hope to continue as long as possible!

I’ve had a considerable amount of music instruction. From solfage and theory, to multi instrument performance (piano, pipe organ, violin, etc…) and in all my years I don’t know that I’ve encountered a more natural, gifted, and welcoming instructor than Kelly at The Singing Place.
My wife and I took singing lessons together a few times, and it was a fantastically enjoyable experience every time. Kelly succeeded in finding exactly what I could do well, and what needed more attention. She helped me find vocal exercises which gave me confidence in my ability to hit the right notes the first time (and stop scooping.) She made singing a joy. Do yourself a favor and take your singing up a level with Kelly.

I’ve been taking from Kathleen for a few months now and she’s really helped me get to the next level with my singing. She’s great at identifying and correcting problems and bad habits and my voice has improved 1,000% because of it. Thank you!

OK, I am super picky because I grew up in a Broadway/​singing family… I tried a few teachers and then found Kelly WOW. The studio is set up brilliantly– a lot of privacy, just a great space. Kelly has been the perfect teacher for my 10 yr old son. He listens to KIIS FM and a lll the pop stars, has a naturally amazing voice-​perfect pitch and sings all the time. His favorite day is Wednesday. Kelly validates everything that is right about Lance’s talent and voice. She makes it so safe for him which is why its the highlight of his week. She spends time with him warming up and understanding the different areas of the voice technically, and then spends plenty of time letting him sing his heart out and gives the most loving constructive adjustments. He has grown so much in such a short amount of time (its been 9 months already!!). Kelly just has a way with artists… my son practices each week what they go over and I tell you she is the reason he keeps going and going and has not given up or lost interest!
WE are moving farther away and we will continue to do our lessons via SKYPE. thats how good she is!

I have had the pleasure of working with Kathleen for over two years. I hadn’t worked with a vocal coach or sung in public for almost 20 years when I was asked to sing «Ave Maria» at a friend’s wedding. Kathleen helped bring my voice out in the very first lesson and the song was beautiful. I have moved from California but whenever I go back I schedule an appointment or two with Kathleen. Last time she helped me record a Christmas song for my ailing mother. Another time I was working on a spoof of a Broadway song for a presentation. We had so much fun that my hour lesson turned into two. I was fortunate to be the last one that day. Kathleen was kind enough to continue working with me because the song wasn’t quite there. I highly recommend Kathleen and The Singing Place.

The Singing Place is a GEM! Kathleen is absolutely fabulous. I am so fortunate to have found her as my voice teacher. Each week, I look forward to my lesson, which I have been doing for eight months now. The improvement I feel and hear in my voice is astounding.
Kathleen is incredibly professional, talented and knowledgeable as a teacher, coach and performer, and is her students’ biggest cheerleader. I feel completely comfortable and welcome in her lovely studio. She is great with all ages, too! I have met several of her students and each one could go on and on with praise for Kathleen.
I cannot recommend the Singing Place highly enough.

Kelly is the most amazing teacher. She is kind, encouraging, and she talks FAST, which I personally enjoy because it means more time for me to sing and do exercises.
I have always been afraid of singing, thought I was terrible at it, had low self esteem when it came to it. But Kelly has drilled in that like anything else, it’s a learnable skill.
I’m 9 months into lessons and I love it. I can’t believe I waited this long! I plan on continuing for several years :)

In a year with Kathleen, she added an octave to my range and broke my nasty singing habits which included pulling on my vocal chords. Think of hiring her as preventive maintenance. She’s both Speech Level Singing certified and really fun to work with. What more could you want?

Kelly is a great teacher and great singer herself. She crafts lessons to perfectly suit your needs, so you can focus on being yourself and improving your unique voice. Also, the vibe is always friendly and professional, never intimidating. I would highly recommend her to friends and colleagues.
