The Study in Los Feliz has been a place to unwind since I moved Southern California. I’ve only been there a handful of times. It’s always packed and noisy. Except for tonight. Why? I realized that it’s my first Saturday night there like ever. I’ve only attended for Shakespeare/Acting events and Happy Hours(Burgers & Beer) during the week. There’s never anyplace to sit, however, that’s kind of the fun of it. The bartenders were more relaxed and cool tonight(as opposed to weeknight visits). Also, there were plenty places for me to sit. The crowds are in my age group and usually very friendly(just not tonight). Still, I felt comfortable hanging out there though like safe. So, it’s not such a bad place.

Went for happy hour. Loved the openness of the place. Got an Old Fashioned($ 8 during HH) and it was good, but they need big ice cubes, little ones melt too fast. Glad I checked it out & would probably go again.

$ 5 beer during happy hour from 3pm to 7pm on the weekend: oh baby, I’m on board! Add an extra $ 5 and get some fries: I’m a happy gal! I came here with three amigos on a sunny Saturday for happy hour and the place was empty so we could get our chat on while we threw back a few sex panthers. It was quiet enough that we could chat, the beer was cold and crisp, and the view was right tolerable. I’d easily take this place over Public House next door any day(although the two do share the same bathrooms which is arguably the one downside to this watering hole, and parking. Always parking). I imagine a return visit in my future for more crisp before-show beers.

Small, but trendy bar. They play old movies on a big screen & I like that the music is a good volume so you can talk to the people you’re with too. Drinks are a little pricey, but good cocktails.

My group of friends couldn’t help but fall in love with this spot. Not only was the happy hour just what we were looking for after a classic movie showing, we enjoyed the service of the bartender, who was so helpful and entertaining! Unfortunately, I forgot his name. We got the cheese plate and two glasses of wine, and a couple other cocktails, and it was just right for our little group. I loved the atmosphere and the theme of The Study, with the books and décor to suit. Very cute and I will be coming back again!

Everytime I’ve been to the study I really enjoy it. A friend of mine introduced me to it. It reminds me of being on the east in a cute wine bar. Happy hour is every day so that is pretty awesome. House wine is $ 5 which is changed out daily. My friend really liked their fries. I just appreciated that there ranch sauce was house made and thick. Also, the space has a very beautiful vibe. I don’t understand why I don’t go there as often, however, I’ll change that now that I’ve taken note. Also, the lighting is very romantic so if your trying to look a bit more ‘glow’ for someone this is a tight spot.

A really low key place with old movies playing off a projector in the back. I’d come back.

Good place to grab a weeknight drink. I’ve come here twice now after quick trips up to the Observatory. Cozy enough place. There’s patio seating, some high two-tops by the door, booths, bar stools, and some comfy bench seating tables in the back. Even a TV that plays films, such as Pulp Fiction, on loop. Barkeeps do a nice pour. You gots wine, liquor, and beer here. Simple as it comes, simple as it goes. I can’t say I come here for the drinks themselves, never even had the food. I come here because it’s here, and often, I just want to be somewhere easy and fair with my company. That’s you, The Study!

1st time at this place and wow I must say what a venue! head a great time enjoying Falcons vs Eagles on big screens next door and then came here to lounge to enjoy a drink before heading to a concert at the Greek. What great service from our Bartender Jim super knowledgable about his craft, and spirits. Personable, friendly service, great place to mingle and not be afraid to be yourself!

In Los Angeles, when pretentious patrons are easily obtained through the same Disney-fied gimmickry, The Study gets real. Books, games and Old Tyme classic movies don’t feel like a trick. They serve me real scotch, no muss no fuss, and draw the patrons who like it that way. I always try and stop in in happy hours there, so I can get a stool at the bar before the crowd.

In this neighborhood bar lives a portal to the past. A portal to a better time. In tonight’s episode we meet friendly bartenders, vintage décor, and one great old fashioned. I love this bar. They play only black and white movies and heaps of old jazz. My one piece of feedback is I hope they upgrade their ice. So, if you’re out there ice gods, please gift us with better ice at The Study.

The Study is the Public House 1739 team’s latest attempt to take advantage of its conjoined neighboring space. It’s gone through a few iterations during my time in Los Feliz, and this is the first one that’s gotten me to walk through the door. It’s still kind of a weird place, but I don’t hate it. If you’ve been to Public House, you might kind of know what I mean. The Study is pretty different in atmosphere and purpose, but there’s the same half-assed feeling, the attempt at a concept that remains unrealized(in Public House’s case, a craft beer bar; in The Study’s, a quiet wine bar). Given their location, both places would be crawling with customers if they hit their marks. The Study is decorated with old books, and it has this worn-in sheen that is somewhat appealing, but it just doesn’t feel as comfortable or as cool as it should. I can’t even say why(and I get that this makes me sound like a griping jerk), but it’s not all there. That said, it’s a really easy spot to hit up on a random weeknight. There are booths and usually empty seats both at tables and around the bar. Certainly much easier to walk into than, say, Covell. The wine list is affordable. I can’t tell how good it is, but I’ve liked the house wines by the glass I’ve ordered. No beer, because there’s a pretense that The Study and Public House are separate places, even though The Study bathroom is in Public House. I haven’t tried the cocktails yet, but probably will at some point. Because whether I love this place or not, I know I’ll keep coming back, just like I end up drinking at Public House at least once a month. The Study is laid back and convenient, and at the end of the day, a decent place to get a drink. Just not the kind of place you’ll want to drive to from more than a neighborhood away.

70 dollar dinner: Cocktails were good. Everything else was pretty bad. Shepards pie was 80% mashed potatoes and a handful of overlooked lamb and tiny, random pieces of vegetables. The chicken felt the same way in my mouth as McDonald’s chicken nuggets, which isn’t bad except when they charge 15 dollars. You would think seeing a full plate of food near the edge of the table would bring over a server or two. But no, they just asked if we wanted the check and chucked their entire entrée in the trash. Service was basically awful. One young gentleman did come to at least clear our cold plates away and allow us to leave peacefully. No restaurant should serve a 40oz PBR and 17 dollar plate dinners.

I actually had a really good time here, and the burger was delish, but I think the bartender dude may have overcharged me.(Which sucks ‘cuz I left an outstanding tip.) If not, this joint’s drinks are kra overpriced.

I came back on a Wednesday night to celebrate quitting my job the day before and subsequent other big life changes so, as promised, here is my updated review. There were about 5 people there that night! The three of us sitting at the bar and another couple sitting at a booth. What a difference the day of the week makes. It was closer to 11 because the kitchen was about to close but the bartender was nice enough to keep it open long enough for my friend to decide what he wanted. We got the server’s undivided attention this time so it’s only fair to bump them up a star. I am not really sure what makes a bar 5 stars but 4 stars seems about right.

My first time really exploring the Los Feliz bar scene, and I have to say it’s quite eclectic! What I like about this bar and this area is that you don’t have the highly pretentious people like from Hollywood and DTLA but rather a good mix of established mid-late career folks. I will say that this place draws those who are in their late 20’s to 30’s; and as I am old soul do enjoy this type of crowd, I obviously can’t ignore how much younger I may have appeared to the other people at the bar. They have a wide range of drinks including cocktails, draft beer, and really anything you want. There is also a food menu but I didn’t get a chance to see it as I was just planning to do drinks. Overall, it has a great vibe to it, and I definitely recommend it. One thing to note is that parking can be a little tricky as yes you can find street parking in the neighborhood streets, but there are also a number of open-air lots for $ 5.

In my last few weeks over in the Los Feliz area I was lucky enough to stumble into The Study. I originally went to that area for a great Pizza & beer deal I remember next door. They no longer had that deal and that place has just gotten FAR too sports bar. However, THIS place was new to me, and it is 100% my type of bar! Same owner as the two restaurants it’s found between, but what a great feel. Beautiful inside. The TV in the back plays black and white movies(on silent) And it really ads a nice touch. The wine list seams to be getting better each time I show up, and so far the service has been great! Rhett has been my bartender the majority of the times, and what a knowledgeable & friendly guy! Both the times I’ve eaten there, I’ve been tempted by many things on the menu, but end up getting the DELICIOUS Shepherds pie! It is NOT however a traditional Shepherds Pie, but it IS fantastic, and huge and filling. Highly recommended. I’m glad that place is there. I hope it doesn’t change much. Fill it up!

Cute/cozy new addition to the Los Feliz bar scene. Service is a little off. our bartender told me not to order the drink I wanted because he hadn’t made it before, then when I did order it he was too lazy to actually find a juice that was supposed to be in it so he subbed it with another one aka he didn’t give me the drink I wanted. Prices are a little too high in my opinion but worth it if they figure out the kinks with the service. Oh and the fries are good!
