Thomas Mattimore, MD

My husband and I both have Dr. Mattimore as our primary doctor for the last 10 years. He has great bedside manners and has always been great at returning phone calls and follow ups. Excellent doctor who provides great care.

Dr Mattimore is a very nice man, but gave me the wrong medication for my infection. He nor anyone else in the office followed up with me when they received the highly escalated levels in my test results. It wasnt until four days later when I went into critical care on my own accord that the test results were acted upon. At that point that they had to give me bags of fluids and antibiotics and recommended I be admitted into the hospital. This could have been remedied if the results were acted on when they were received!

I started seeing Dr. Mattimore as my primary care physician several months ago and I couldn’t be happier.
My first appointment with him was in the afternoon, so I did have a fairly decent wait time, but once he got to me, I understood why. He takes TIME with each patient, answers questions, makes sure you leave feeling as if all your questions have been answered.
My second appointment they warned me he was running behind and I told them the same thing I will say here, «I would rather wait for a doctor who is going to take time to listen to me and answer my questions then be seen immediately by someone who is going to shuffle me out the door as quickly as possible».
Unlike my previous physician, who I am not going to name just out of respect, Dr. Mattimore actually REMEMBERS me when I come in.
In my most recent visit, I was actually able to get a same day appointment, although I suspect that is not the norm, since his assistant was shocked to see an available slot when I called first thing in the morning.
He is one of the few doctors I have seen who seem able to take the whole patient into consideration instead of just looking at a single data point and rushing to a conclusion. In my most recent visit, he even took the time to call in another doctor to confirm his thoughts before taking any action (in which case it turned out to be to take no action). Where other doctors may have sent me home with a random prescription and/​or done an unnecessary blood draw, Dr. Mattimore took the opposite approach, but also got a second opinion before taking no action.
Just an all around excellent doctor!

Tom Mattimore has been my primary care physician for several years. Because he is a teaching physician his expertise and communication manner is first-​rate. I am fortunate to be in his care.

Dr. Mattimore has been my primary care physician for over 15 yrs. I couldn’t be happy with the care I’ve received from him. He listens to the description of your concerns, takes notes, asks the appropriate questions, and examines you thoroughly. I’ve always felt that he gave me sufficient time and attention, which is totally different from the experience I have from most specialists who give you 6 min max.
Since Dr. Mattimore works in the teaching hospital environment, you often have to make an appointment 2 to 3 weeks in advance. But you can always see one of the other Internists from his medical group if you come in for urgent care.
In brief, Dr. Mattimore is thorough, current and knowledgeable, and compassionate. What more could you ask for?

Dr. Mattimore is one of the best doctors I’ve ever seen. Reassuring, attentive, excellent listener, got the answers. The man is wonderful.

Dr. Mattimore is terrific! He sits down and talks to me for 10 – 15 minutes each time I see him, and actually remembers who I am. I had a broken bone that required surgery, for which I obviously didn’t see him because I went to the ER, and the next time he saw me he brought up the reports and looked them over, then examined my sutures and asked about the progress of the rehab.
The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that it takes forever to get an appointment with him, so whenever I have gone in for an urgent problem I’ve always seen younger doctors, though all of them have been good so far too. One tip though: make your appointment in the morning! Since he spends so much time with each patient, by the afternoon he gets backed up and you may not get seen until 30 or 40 minutes after your appointment time.

Excellent doctor. Went to him once to check on an some abnormality. To be honest, once I was taken to a private room, the wait was quite some time. If I recall correctly, I waited 20 minutes and that doesn’t include the time in the waiting room where you fill out forms, etc. Anyway, the wait is still worth it because he is very attentive and makes sure you understand everything before leaving. Too bad HMO Blue Shield of CA or Health Net don’t cover UCLA Medical Center anymore. He has two locations and if you are new, you need to visit him first at his location at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. After that, you’re able to go to the location in Westwood.
