Growing up in a Mexican restaurant family business has given me a high standard for food. This place is delicious! Tortas were well crafted and made with love. Horchata was good. Licuados had nice flavor Balance. Next time I’m in the neighborhood, I’ll be back.

Simple but soo good. fresh and tasty off the grill. DId a turn around trip from La Mirada to this place to pick up tortas for lunch. There that good. Always get the Carne asada. The green sauce is the best… gives your torta the perfect kick. 2 sizes reg and grande… the regular looks small but is quite filling… cost us 23.00 for 2 reg and 1 grande. Meter parking out front can get busy, best to go early.

Best tortas around, hands down. They get their bread fresh from a bakery. Green salsa, nice and spicy. The choco-milk is delicious!

After buying Mexican sweet bread from El Central bakery, I was very hungry I was looking a hamburger from 1st Street Burgers just a block a away then I was thinking Mexican but there a good one just next the bakery. I was checking on my Unilocal to what other good restaurants on 1st street. I found one I remember this since I was very young, my parents use to bring us to have Tortas after shopping at the 1st street store it’s called Tortas Las Nuevas. I have been to here omg for years, I remember this place service good tortas when was on different name even I can’t remember it so long I have been this part of East L.A. been born and rise in East L.A. knowing there’s a lots good Mexican restaurants that’s aren’t explore yet trust they are good restaurants. The restaurant looks like been beat by the years by the weather and disrepair by time. The restaurant is steps away from the El Central bakery and Post office not bad. I step in the restaurant it have change a lot since I came here in years. I saw the menu it was very simple and the sandwiches look very tasty I love tortas any style like tortas ahogados. I order the simple the turkey tortas they are some tortas are very good like Cuban tortas and the Super tortas that’s will be next time now I have to focus on my turkey tortas. The girl who got my order she prepare my torta then she put the bread on the flat top to crisped the bread make it unbelievable crunch and soak in the flavors in the bread. My order was really then I took home. The torta looks very delicious one bite great flavors like the bread nice and toasty and the turkey and tomato and the lettuces plus the avocado that make the torta really good with all that flavors. I recommend the Tortas Las Nuevas to my family and friends and including my Unilocal friends.

Chorizo & cheese torta is the way to go! I’ve been coming here for years now. I usually always order the same thing cause I’m kinda boring but all the tortas are great. Customer services is really good you’ll always see the owner at the register or cleaning the tables.

Chris Kim has been here a few times and can tell you that it boasts the best tortas that Chris Kim has ever had. The thing is they only focus on making tortas so thats why they are so damn good. Chris Kim has tried the adobada which is a marinated pork similar to pastor, the cubano with ham and some other meat and cheese, the chorizo con huevo and the chicken. They are each topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo and mustard and avocado that mashes up to seem like guacamole. The bread that is used here stays crunchy and chewy to where all the ingredients combined makes a decadent torta. The liquado of banana and or strawberry is topped with cinnamon and are a tasty beverage to wash down the tortas. There is a salsa and jalapeño station nearby and the red sauce has a nice smokiness to it. The pricing is reasonable at 5 bucks for a regular size and 7 for a larger but they dont skimp on the quality. The fountain sodas are 1.50 and the smoothies are 4.00 They do have the Mexican soda bottles though. The seating is minimal at about 12 seats and they accept cash only with street parking. The area isn’t that bad so come here and give it a try.

Tortas Las Nuevas boasts«las mejores tortas en todo de este de los angeles»(best tortas in all of East LA). Being new to the torta world after an introduction from Cook’s Tortas, I had a pork lomo torta(sin mostaza — without mustard) and thought it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. After this experience, I tried tortas from a host of other places(King Torta, Carnitas Michoacan, Tacos Tumbras a Tomas) and I have to say that I agree with their claim to fame! I can’t order tortas from other restaurants now that I’ve had the best!

So I was craving a bomb ass torta soooo badly the other day. Working in hollywood, I figured there’d be no place there that would satisfy that craving. I decided to wait till I got to my neck of the woods because living in Boyle Hts/City Terrace I was bound to find something deeelicious. I Unilocaled and found this place not too far from home. It definitely is a hole in the wall. At first, I couldn’t find it. Nowhere did I see ‘Tortas El Rey’. Finally, on the corner of Rowan and 1st, I found it! I read the reviews about the awesome milanesa and lomo but I was in a carne asada mood so I decided to get a torta de asada with a fresh squeezed orange juice. The asada was soooo good. Very tender and flavorful. The lettuce, tomato and avocado were very fresh. The texture of the birote was the best! The only thing that was a major turn off was that they put mustard on the torta. I hate mustard!!! I’ve had tortas everywhere and all my life and I’ve never encountered a torta with mostaza. Never! Anyway, I wish I woulda known that cause I coulda gotten the torta minus the mustard. It kinda ruined the rest of the torta for me. I would like to give this place another shot. I wanna go back and try the lomo torta. The guy at the register told me that lomo was like carnitas minus all the fat. I love carnitas! I’d definitely try the milanesa torta too. Cash only!!!

After a nice run through Temescal Canyon, my friends and I wanted something good but not too heavy. «You guys want to try Las Nuevas?» asked my friend, Janice L. Tortas? Sure, that sounds perfect right now. Turns out, they were exactly what we needed. The larger-sized sandwich was perfect for me; it satisfied my hunger without negating my workout, but it left me wanting juuust a bit more. That little bit of longing will bring me back for more in the near future. The carne asada and the rest of the ingredients were well-balanced and delicious, but I think the winner for me was the bread: toasted with the right amount of chew. I’ve never had tortas with bread like this. How does this place only have five reviews???

Great tortas(Mexican steak-like sandwich)!!! The bread is birote style(like French baguette) that is toasted on the griddle; nice texture. Chopped tomatoes, onions, and lettuce that is topped with a watery(in a good way) mayo that is tangy. All these components compliment your choice of meat. I ordered the milanesta(like chicken fried steak), great breading that was seasoned well. I highly recommend this one but I can’t wait to try the other choices like lomo(pork shoulder) and asada(beef steak). They offer two sizes; regular or large. I ordered the regular, which is a satisfying size but so good that I wish I had the large. They have a small salsa bar with pickled jalapeños, green and red salsas, and a warm watery guacamole that is a bit spicy. I like the guacamole along with the red salsa. I can’t understand why there is only two Unilocal reviews up to this date. I thought this place would be screaming with Unilocal reviews by now. If anyone likes Cook’s Tortas, you will love this place. Last year this place was one of the«100 things you should eat in LA before you die» article in the LA Weekly. Yes it’s a hole in the wall place in the middle of East LA and they only accept cash; it is the quintessential hidden gem! Can’t wait to return!

Hands down, these are the best tortas I have tasted thus far. Go to Cook’s if you’re craving complex and gourmet(good in its own right). Come to Las Nuevas if you want simple, fast, no BS, scrumptious tortas. I’m sorry if you think I’m hyping it up, but really, I’m not. I heard the same shpeel before eating here, and I was still blown away. I’m still recovering from the fact that they’ve only gotten three reviews. When I have the unfortunate day of driving to work, I’ll treat myself by driving here for lunch. There are parking meters close by, but there is usually enough free residential street parking on Rowan. There are usually one or two friendly people working. Just thinking about the carne asada torta makes me salivate. The bread is toasted just right, and I believe they bake it next door. Inside are the usual ingredients in perfect proportion. Regular size should suffice, unless you usually eat bigger portions. Complete your torta with their mind blowing green hot sauce(what is the recipe???) and an ice cold horchata(refills are only 50 cents). Cash only, and that’s what I call about $ 7 very well spent.
