Two Bits Market

I used to frequent this place once a week, at least. I’d mainly get coffee, a Tres Peso, ginger soda, etc. It was great for a quick lunch or to pick up healthy snacks. Then it stopped being a market, the new food menu was underwhelming, and I stopped going there.

The girl from Auntie Ems Kitchen left this place. Rumor has it the crazy lady with black hair from Two Bits that she partnered up with ran people out of there and was mean to everybody. I’m not quite sure what is going on there now but when I went in it Looked like the Two Bits lady turned it back into Two Bits. I will pass on this. Amateur hour over there. I liked it better when it was the grocery store with wilted old vegetables. At least you could get a good piece of cheese.

This is evidently Auntie Ems now, which is seemingly run by bitter versions of Lena Dunham.
I stopped in as I normally have for years on Sunday to pickup milk. Understanding that there was some shakeup in the business, I asked «do you still sell milk», a truly innocuous question. The response: «Do you know how to use the metro? You can go to the Hollywood Farmers’ Market». This is honestly the worst advice I’ve received since someone told me I should invest in Enron. As a business owner as well, I’m stunned that they would think this is acceptable behavior, especially during a rebranding process.
Here’s a pro tip for running a successful business: when someone asks for something and you don’t have it, just say «Sorry, we don’t carry that anymore». It’s not rocket science.

Went to Auntie Em’s SOOOOO good! Super fresh great cheese Beer, cocktails. Super cool little gem of a spot. Small, great tunes. Great sandies. Impeccable right down to the pickles and marmalade

What was once a nice little neighborhood market is now «Auntie Em’s Kitchen» serving a limited assortment of sandwiches, salads, desserts and draft beers.
Combining this market with Auntie Em’s down the street and bringing it all to this cramped sweaty location makes no sense at all.
At this point the woman from Auntie Em’s should go it alone and lose the Two Bits Market girl who is obviously holding back this vision.

Made to order deli sandwiches inside a cute little market. I’ve had the doubloon and the lira and would recommend both! The first time I can we got both on baguettes and shared. They were amazing. I came back a week or 2 ago and they no longer have baguettes. Sad times. But I got the doubloon on wheat and it was really good! We also got the lira but on a ciabatta and I didn’t care for it. The ciabatta is too much bread and took away from all the goodness going on in the sandwich. I’d definitely recommend checking them out, just unsure what to say about the bread situation now that they don’t have baguettes. I’ll be back to try again on a French roll and the other bread options.

This place is so annoying! It is not a good small market to think you can run to for anything because most likely they’re out of it… whatever it is. I don’t understand how they can all of a sudden get a liquor license to have beer on tap there when they can’t even run a decent bodega. Never any bread, half selection of deli meats, fruit and Veges pitiful.

Came here for lunch, had the shekel sandwich (pastrami). Service was great, location was cool. You could come here and get a breakfast burrito to a sandwich for lunch. Price was a bit steep for a small sandwich, $ 9.50. And tasted okay, nothing mind blowing.
Would I come back here? Probably not. But it’s a cool place to come and see if you’re in the area.

Came here on my lunch break on a whim when I saw it across the street. Looking for something new to try and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Had a pastrami sandwich and had a choice between several breads

Fuck yes! Super cute shop with small portions of whatever you need! Veggies /​fruits /​cheeses /​meats beers!

I just had their breakfast biscuit (chorizo meat); holly s**t! it was AMAZING. Best breakfast biscuit in DTLA, I can’t wait to try their beacon biscuit. Thier Delhi meat and cheeses are good as well, don’t worry about the price$$$$$ because you get what you pay for.

I was deceived by Unilocal again with the «cheese shop» category. Although they sell a few well known, high-​end cheeses, this isn’t a real cheese store, but a small bodega for locals within walking distance. Sadly, it looked like they are about to go out of business with half empty shelves and forlorn, wilted vegetables.

This is exactly the type of place that downtown needs! Their meat and cheese selection is small, but what they have is amazing. I’m a huge fan of Humboldt fog, and they have it every single time I go in. There sandwiches and breakfast burritos are super tasty, and the staff is always helpful when picking out anything within the market.

The soup, baguettes and cheeses are the best. The bacon duck sausage is one of the best things I’ve ever prepared over pasta and hope they carry that carnivorous delicacy for a long time until there are no more quackery quacks!
I know my first review was a bit tough but the place has grown on me and the staff there are more than cordial and a delight each time I shop there.

Not sure about all the loving for Two Bits. In terms of a market, I could only see myself getting dried goods or their deli selections here. Sadly I came here for some produce and found myself disappointed with wilted and rotting vegetables and fruits. The kale I ended up choosing went limp and squishy in a matter of days in the fridge.
If you want upscale, fresh, delicious produce in the downtown area, hop on your bike and head to Urban Radish in the Arts District.

Cheese selection at this small place obviously I love to have for me. Egg farms listed according to their practice of humane and environmental.

This is a very small, cozy market with a very limited selection. While the options aren’t wide, the few things they do carry are all great quality, albeit a little pricey. They have some produce (some don’t always look in the best shape but they are organic and tasty), fresh baked breads, a solid cheese and meat selection, wine, crackers, and a few racks of sauces and jarred goods. I haven’t tried them for myself, but from what I’ve heard Two Bits makes a MEAN sandwich.
This place gets pretty busy on Sunday mornings when the DTLA farmers market takes place. They have patio seats so you can enjoy the outdoors. Downtown definitely needs more shops like this!

I’m torn between two stars and three. It’s not «A-​OK,» but then again it’s not «Meh» either. They have a good selection considering the size of the place, my chief beef is the prices; they are astronomical. There is nothing quite like taking advantage of your downtown location to overcharge. This is one of those instances where if the price ends in a zero you are likely paying twice or three times what the item is actually worth.
That said, they do have a good selection and the deli-​counter person knows what they are doing. But honestly $ 15 for half pound of chicken??? Ridiculous! I don’t care if it is «organic» (no proof provided), at those prices the chickens damned well better have had a on-​site spa.

Yet another stop in the six taste tour of downtown la… and another pointless review…
TURKEY SANDWICH
I normally despise turkey unless its the fourth Thursday in November… but this was actually not bad at all. The wife loved it.
Here’s why I would go back though…
