Got skin problems? Dr. Choi at TY is THE doctor to see. I had eczema-​like (but not eczema) symptoms on my right index finger for 7+ years. It would come and go, and it’d be especially bad during the winter time. It was only on my finger, but the itch would get so bad that I couldn’t focus on anything else sometimes. I tried steroid creams, which only made the problem worse, and I went to multiple doctors who told me it was a case of minor eczema and kept recommending the cream. Whatever the issue was, they couldn’t fix it. After reading up on TY’s Unilocal reviews, I went to Dr. Choi for a check up. After 2 weeks of drinking the herbal tea he prescribed and 1 session of acupuncture, MY FINGER IS HEALED!!! Dr. Choi is very amicable, and the other employees are very friendly and sweet, as well. If you suffer from eczema or a similar skin condition, consider yourself lucky to have stumbled upon TY Wellness !! It never occurred to me that acupuncture, dieting, special tea with the guidance of the TY team could cure my eczema. Don’t question it, just go and you will have no regrets. If you are still skeptical, please read my review ! **I apologize in advance for my the lengthiness of the review and the unappealing descriptions of my eczema, but i want to be detailed for anyone who may have similar eczema symptoms/​misery that I had.
Let me first start by saying I’ve had eczema my entire life with extremities varying from mild to worse as I hit my twenties and even more severe after having a child. Just before I learned of TY wellness, my skin, body, scalp was at a point of complete itchy, rash-​y misery. For years I treated my eczema with steroid creams and whatever my dermatologist prescribed. Then when I learned that steroid creams were not the way, I tried every natural and non medicated treatment on internet possible from bleach baths, honey, lemon, olive oil, Shea butter, argan oil, oatmeal, Dead Sea salt, tea tree oil/​soaps– everything. Although some of those treatment may have help keep moisturized, it wasn’t enough nor did it help with my very irritated, oozing plaque scalp which I slowly developed 1 year prior to treatment. I also had a patch of eczema plaque on my neck and on parts inside and out of my ear (I had for almost 10 years) which i just learned to live with, but my scalp that I was where I had to draw the line — I was constantly scratching myself/​scalp and I would spend 30 minutes every day trying to pick and comb out all the plaque dander (to say the least) not to mention it burned of irritation. I did not think this could be cured or treated, but Dr. Choi and his team proved me wrong!
I underwent about 3 months of treatment of acupuncture and tea. As many others have mentioned, it’s herbal tea, acupuncture and a strict diet which is extremely important to stick to. I thought i knew every thing there was to know about my eczema since I’ve suffered from it for so long, and but Dr Choi and his team opened my eyes to so much more and has given me a completely new perceptive and understanding of my eczema in terms of my triggers and being preventative (diet/​contact avoidance). I can proudly say that my scalp that COMPLETELY HEALED by the end of my treatment as well as my thick eczema patch on my neck and ears! Seriously it’s a miracle!!! It’s been 4 months since I’ve finished treatment and those areas are still clear ! The other areas of my body for the most part are generally rash free but since i have contact eczema and I have difficulties avoiding the foods I should be avoiding, I do get rashes here and there but it’s not nearly as chronic as I was before treatment. I am so grateful to Dr. Choi and team– it has changed my life from night to day.
Don’t hesitate to make an appointment of you suffer from eczema. The tea is very costly, but trust me, it’s worth every penny. If the cost is holding you back, your eczema is probably not that bad. Some health insurances cover the cost of the acupuncture (just have copay). Hope this helps!

I’ve been seeing Dr Choi and Dr Hong for about a year now and realized that Chinese medicine is also about maintaining health and balance aside from ‘fixing problems’. Cannot recommend them enough 6*

I’ve been seeing different dermatologists for my acne and contact dermatitis (eczema) for the past couple of years. They would prescribe strong doses of topical steroid cream for my eczema and also strong prescriptions of benzoyl peroxide for my acne.
It would get better for a week but after a few weeks later it would come back. It wouldn’t go away. Both the eczema and the acne problem got worse. I was really tired of seeing my skin not healing so I’ve researched on Unilocal and looked up dermatologists and acupuncturists. I was desperate. I wanted to go through the eastern medicine route because my skin wasn’t healing from taking pills and creams. I’ve noticed TY Wellness center’s reviews were highly rated. And I had a lot of similarities w these people’s stories. So I went and made an appointment w Dr. Choi and Dr Alex. Dr. Choi gave me an hour long consultation about the cause of my eczema and acne. First off my eczema was wrongfully diagnosed by the dermatologists. All along I thought I had eczema but I had contact dermatitis which is a form of eczema. Dr. Choi described how topical steroid creams are actually pretty dangerous for our skin. He showed me examples of different skin disorders because of the topical steroid creams and it was pretty scary. He also mentioned that I had to change my diet. Stay away from spicy foods, bread, red meat, caffeine, alcohol, greasy foods, etc… Which was extremely hard at first but you get the hang of it after awhile. I also had to attend a weekly visit for my acupuncture treatment and consume 3 pouches of Chinese medicine called hanyak daily. It’s been 5 weeks and my acne and its scars are healing. My eczema on my leg is disappearing. And I’ve even lost weight. Dr. Choi likes to heal from the root of the problem and make it go away. Dr. Choi and Dr. Alex are great caring doctors and also very accommodating. They really care about your problem and I trust them completely.
This has been the fastest result I’ve seen in years and I’m so relieved my skin is properly healing. If you have a similar skin disorder like myself please go see Dr. Choi and Dr. Alex. They will heal you properly.

I want to first say that Dr. Choi and Dr. Hong are amazing individuals! It’s been a few years since they last treated my eczema condition and healed me. Today, I had a visit because of my recent contact dermatitis condition and to my surprise, not only did they still remember me from a few years back but they made time to see me right away. I at ease that my condition will be treatable quickly before my trip overseas in 10 days. I recommend anybody who is looking to be treated in a holistic manner. Good for the body in the long run.

After reading many other patients review, I also want to share more about my stories. My previous chronic eczema was at the worst condition ever. Every morning, I had to start with gauze on my open wounds. For such a long time, I was suffering from skin oozing, itching, and swelling with severe skin ulcer which refrained me from walking. Many doctors and dermatologists have tried treat with Antibiotics, Antihistamine, Topical/​Oral Steroids which in the end failed to treat but just keep gotten worse. Dr. Choi was told at once that it was affected from internal condition and external condition from such as spider bites/​web. At the time of initial visit, Dr. Choi treated me from medication withdrawal such called TSW: Topical Steroids Withdrawal and it has healed well. Also, Dr. Choi have helped me grew new skin cell and helped my skin immune to become stronger to fight with any infection.
This time, I had visit for my ‘Chemical burn induced Contact Dermatitis’ on my face. It was itching, burning and painful. I was very worried that it would be eczema condition, but Dr. Choi has kindly explained it was not eczema. I was not only felt relieved to know that was not eczema, but also all the symptoms that I was suffering went away in a week. After 2 weeks of treatment, my scar on face disappeared like it wasn’t even there before.

This office is AMAZING. Last year I had the worst eczema you have ever seen. Seriously. Picture the worst case you can look up on Google. That was all over my hands and my legs. And I was getting married in a few months. I walked into the office, ready to cry because nothing else had worked, and Dr. Choi just looked at my legs and said, «Eh, I’ve seen worse. I have been waiting and lagging forever to write this review, Dr. Choi has changed my life. I have suffered from eczema my whole life since birth until now. For over 20 years of my life, doctors kept giving me topical steroid creams to apply on my skin, after awhile they stopped working. so what did those idiots do? They kept giving me stronger and stronger steroids which led to oral steroids. which led to Elidel (immunosupressants) thank god I didn’t use that for long. because the effects of Elidel can be even worse than topical steroid creams.
I finally reached a point where NOTHING was working, i would take oral steroids… be okay for 2 weeks then BAM the eczema would come back with a vengeance. I was at my last hope. i honestly didn’t know what to do. I started to do my research. and came across all these people suffering from eczema and going through «topical steroid withdrawal». I was really scared. But then I thought. I don’t want to rely on steroids my whole life. not to mention the long term effects! But i was terrified of the withdrawal symptoms. I came across Dr. Choi on Unilocal and started reading all the reviews. At first I was skeptic. Because at this point. I have basically lost hope in everything for my eczema.

I am so very thankful to the universe for leading me to TY Wellness. I have been struggling with severe eczema and IBS for over 15 years. I confided in a friend about my eczema that was so bad I was having to miss work. She had recommended TY Wellness and Dr. Choi because a very good friend of hers had struggled with the same eczema and had been healed through Dr. Choi’s treatment. I had been taking topical steroid cream on my fingers (although I was very hesitant to use it I was also very desperate because the itching was so intense) for about 6 months. The dermatologist had told me to lather my fingers with the cream not really informing me about the side effects. I noticed that the cream was giving me nightmares, insomnia, and fatigue. I decided to stop using the topical steroid and low and behold my eczema was worsened! Now my eczema was not just on my fingers but spread onto my neck and inner elbow area. I was miserable and seeking for any help! This is when I decided to take my friend’s advice and visited TY Wellness. I immediately felt so comfortable there because Alex and Dr. Choi are the warmest and honest people. You can really tell that they want to help you heal from the bottom of their hearts. I came to TY Wellness after my husband found it on Unilocal.I was suffering from a rash that kept appearing and disappearing. I went to a regular GP and was prescribed topical steroids. My mother is a nurse, so I knew that this basically meant that they had no idea what was really causing the symptoms. So I decided to try acupuncture. I was already familiar with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) so this was a giant leap into the unknown for me.
2 weeks of a 3 times a day tonic and staying away certain types food and the rashes are gone. Turns out they were hives and what was really needed was to get my digestive system back in order.

I have struggled with cystic acne my whole life (15 years!) and several rounds of Accutane, birth control, spironolactone, countless creams and regimens, special diets, Naturopathic medicine — nothing has really worked. The gyno calls it PCOS but they don’t really even know what that is and cannot fix it. The naturopath DID get me on a regular 3 week cycle (but still anovulatory) with a veggie heavy paleo diet and herbs, but it only got my skin about 50% better. Enter Dr Choi. With the Chinese Herbal Medicine 3x/​day, after just a week of also avoiding nuts and spicy food and one Accupuncture appointment, my skin was 80% better! After 10 days of the medicine and a second appt, 95% better! It is so shocking. I have never seen it so clear. I feel like a new person. Like the many of the other reviewers, I had eczema as a child that continued into adulthood. I was told that I would have to live with eczema my entire life and that there was no cure, nothing I can do but apply steroid creams to control flare ups. I knew that topical steroid (TS) creams thin your skin, so I was trying to stop depending on them but I would go back to them when other moisturizers/​creams didn’t do the trick. I was using desonide (TS) and elidel (immunosuppressant) for a couple of years. I did not know how harmful these chemicals were to my body. One day I decided to try acupuncture to help alleviate my chronic eczema. I found T.Y. Wellness on Unilocal.It was one of the few acupuncture places that specialize in skin conditions. The honest reviews of people who also suffered with eczema all their life gave me hope that I might also be able to be free from TS and eczema one day.
I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Choi, Dr. Hong, & Dr. Park. They are lovely people and great physicians who are very informative and caring. They explain what is happening to your body and how it needs to heal. I like that they have seen many cases of skin conditions and know what to expect in recovery. I didn’t know that your skin can get addicted to TS and that I would experience withdrawal. My withdrawal symptoms manifested into the worst flares and itchiness that I’ve ever experienced but it’s different for each person’s history of TS use.
While I was going through it, I learned more about TSW (topical steroid withdrawal) on the internet. In my research I came across academic journals, personal accounts, awareness campaigns that all point to steroid-​induced eczema, which is no longer the original eczema but a dependence your skin has developed that leads to red skin syndrome (RSS). It’s a shame that most dermatologists are not aware or don’t acknowledge these conditions exist and induce this disease by the very treatment they are prescribing.

I’ve been under the care of T.Y. Wellness for a little over 2 months now and my skin is healing well. I believe the diet and herbal medicine really helped me to detox my body of the toxins and aid my body in producing new skin. I still have some stubborn problem areas but natural healing takes time, and I know it’s better for me in the long run.

Dr. Choi is the best. Unlike all of the western doctors I’ve been to, he really took time to diagnose and discuss with me about my Psoriasis. Dr. Choi, Dr. Alex, and Dr. Park is a great team and they took really good care of me every visit.
Having psoriasis really sucked and it affected my life so much because it was on my scalp, back, calf, thighs, rib cage, heels, and nails. Long story short, my Psoriasis was caused by poor digestion, eating the wrong foods, and STRESS… so after fixing all of these and working with his team within a few months my psoriasis of 1.5 years is almost completely cleared!

It’s been a little over a year since my first visit to TY Wellness and I thought it would be nice to give an update on my condition.
I returned to TY this summer, with some of the same symptoms as last Summer and a few new ones. After a few months of being virtually itch free I began to get itchy once again once the weather began to get warm, and I also developed some nasty allergies. I had terrible allergies that kept me congested all day. This was badly affecting my breathing, sleeping, and stamina during exercise. The itchiness around my neck and cheeks returned and I knew it was time to make my appointment at TY again. Doctor Choi and the staff instantly knew who I was and welcomed me back warmly.
I was diagnosed with Pruritus as a result of season, stress, and some of the same issues I had last year (digestive difficulties).
I went on another round of herbal medicine, with a slightly different mixture to combat my respiratory issues. I also began acupuncture and have continued it every two weeks.
I have not had any allergy symptoms (congestion, respiratory difficulty) since shortly after beginning treatment. The itchiness in my neck has subsided, aside from some rare instances when it’s very hot outside, but that is to be expected. Doctor still has me avoid spicy foods in between visits especially when the forecast calls for heat.
Aside from the effects of the acupuncture itself, I think what has helped largely is the awareness of my body and how it works. TY Wellness helped me discover that one of my biggest triggers is stress, and that has helped curb many of my bad habits, and has helped my condition.

I been coming to T.Y. Wellness for migraines headaches and shoulder pain for over using my arms at work and the pain is almost gone before I would take Ibuprofen 800and it didn’t help with the pain. Since I been using TY Wellness I don’t take pills anymore I feel energized and it a great alternative to western medicine I love coming here is a great atmosphere and Dr. Choi, Dr. Park and Alex are great.

I came here for a recurring rash I had acquired while on vacation in Toronto.
After visiting 4 doctors, 2 of which were dermatologists, I finally decided to go the holistic route.
One of the dermatologists had my skin biopsied in two different areas of my body. When I received the results: «inconclusive rash», I had had enough. I wanted real answers and real results.
Since I was non-​stop googling rashes, (it’s something that you do when you have a sudden, irritating skin growth) I saw that eczema was a common one and the symptoms sounded eerily similar to my own. From there, I did a search for curing eczema with acupuncture. When my search confirmed that acupuncture was a natural way of healing eczema, I began my Unilocal search. TY was the top hit based on customer reviews. I went through every picture and read every relatable review. Some of these poor patients had been suffering with their rashes for years– I couldn’t even imagine. I was dying after a few months time.
I called and spoke with Alex. He clearly laid everything out for me. Procedure, pricing (I was going out of pocket) and after I verbally agreed to everything, he booked me an appointment two days later. This was a huge relief for me because booking an appointment with the dermatologists would leave me waiting 1 – 2 weeks.
I met everyone that day. The whole crew was friendly, professional, and informative. The doctor took a look at my tongue, asked me a few questions, and studied my rash sites. Within minutes he was ready to give me his diagnosis. Wow, I had gone from several months of visiting multiple doctors, trying out several medications, had a biopsy, and accrued medical bills totaling over $ 1500. Why didn’t I do this sooner?!
It was in fact, eczema. More importantly, it was steroid-​induced eczema. The creams I was being prescribed for my rash were the very thing that was making it (painfully) worse. First, I had to quit all creams. (Hydrocortisone and Clobetasol) He warned me of a steroid withdrawal, but I didn’t experience that too bad. Second, I needed acupuncture and herbal medicine. Third, I had to adjust my diet. Specifically, a cold food diet that was devoid of any possible allergy triggers. (Eg nuts, shellfish, spicy food)
Let me tell you that I felt better that evening after leaving the doctor’s office. Perhaps it was due to my optimism of hearing a distinct cause and solution, but most likely it was the acupuncture that provided me with almost immediate relief. I stuck to my diet for 10 days and drank my herbal medicine 3 times a day. I’ll be honest and say that I never quite got used to the taste. I didn’t want to mix it with anything, but I suggest chasing it with lemon water. It helps a bit.
On my 10^th day I had my second acupuncture appointment, Dr. Choi told me I didn’t need acupuncture that day. I wasn’t itchy. My skin wasn’t irritated and acupuncture wasn’t necessary. Alex scheduled me to come in a week later for a follow-​up. It was there that the doctor told me I was officially discharged. I no longer had eczema. Not only that, but because I had no acupuncture procedures done, I didn’t have to pay anything for the last two visits. I was pretty shocked by this. Why wouldn’t the doctor want to make money by seeing me? I’m currently paying medical bills to Kaiser for the brief and pointless services they provided me with.
I was overjoyed at having my life back. My rash sites resulted in some dark scarring, but the doctor told me that these will eventually fade. Sticking to the cold food diet would help out greatly in healing. My former rash has already started to lighten up and my skin is peeling, which I see as a positive step toward recovery.

I have been dealing with eczema/​atopic dermatitis as long as I remember. I had used topical and oral steroid and even got steroid shots time to time both in Japan and US (I am a Japanese).
Since my former acupuncture started hesitating to give his «herbal cream» which he claimed doesn’t contain any steroid, and I have noticed my skin cannot survive long without his «cream», I began to suspect the cream has harmful effect just like steroid cream… I asked him if it is steroid, he said no but what I went through after stopped using it was just like topical steroid withdrawal.(I am not going to put this doctor’s name here but if you would like to know, please email me).

At my first appointment, Dr. Choi, Alex and JaeYi discussed my conditions and determined my treatment plan which is consisted of strict diet, weekly acupuncture sessions and herbal drink.
Dr. Choi told me that my indigestion issue triggers eczema. He wasn’t sure if the cream former acupuncture gave me contains any steroid because there’s no label on it, but after I stopped using it, I got similar symptoms to topical steroid withdrawal… red and swollen face and very itchy trunk area (This made me mad at former acupuncture but that is another story). At my second appointment when my condition was worst, Dr. Choi told me that he does his best and will get my life back. That literally made me cry.
After ten days of taking herbal drink, I started seeing the improvement especially on my face and neck. My skin got smoother texture and felt no itchy on my scalp like I used to! And my digestive system improved as well and I got more regularity.
Since then, my skin condition has been getting better and better. I am not eczema free yet, but I finally see the light at the end of this long tunnel of misery of steroid usage! I think Eastern medicine and acupuncture won’t suppress the symptoms like topical steroid do, rather, it fixes the cause of the issues. That’s probably the reason why it took a little while to see the improvement but it is the best way to deal with my issue!
Dr. Choi told me that he is struggling more to treat topical steroid withdrawal than eczema itself nowadays as many doctors overuse topical creams. I am the one of them. Steroid fixes the problem merely temporary, and if you keep using it, you need stronger ones and that may cause red skin syndrome like I got.
I cannot even describe how fortunate I was to find TY wellness. Dr. Choi is the most caring doctor I’ve ever met in my life time. Alex and JaeYi are both knowledgeable and kind as well. They know what their patients go through and respect our lives. I am not depressed but seeing them for weekly basis is kind of having good therapy sessions as well. I always feel better and relaxed when I leave their office.
I will keep working with TY wellness till the day Dr. Choi tells me I am eczema free. And I am sure the day is not that far!

After a series of intense sweat lodge experiences (back to back days, NOT recommended) the base of my neck & right arm started to itch like mad & I developed a severe skin rash. I was suffering from this breakout of redness and itchiness on the skin after 6 months of giving birth. My family doctor couldn’t pin point what it was that I had. The only thing said was hormone change after pregnancy. I took a blood test to see if I was allergic to anything but nothing came up. I was taking allergy medication almost every other day to stop the itchiness but it was still just as unbearable. Finally, I looked and read the reviews then decided to come to T.Y. Wellness.
At my first consultation Dr. Choi told me I have urticaria. He told me exactly my conditions were and what causes it. This is worse than eczema and it requires longer treatment but just shortly after my first acupuncture session and taking the herbal medication given, I noticed a remarkable difference in the itchiness and he even helped regulate the imbalance in my body.
It has been almost a month of acupuncture and I no longer need to take any allergy medication. There are still seldom breakouts of redness but the itchiness is caused by the drastic weather changes. Other than that, I was as good as I was before my hormone change with my baby.

Everyone in this office speaks and understands english. Alex speaks it the best, so he is typically the one who will translate for you with Dr. Choi, just to insure that the doctor completely understands what you are saying. the level of attention and care that i receive here is unparalleled.
