Unprofessional to the point it was funny. I got there at 6.55 for a 7am class and the doors were locked, no one was picking up the phone. The instructor (Cece I think) came in at 7 and the front desk person a few minutes late, no apologies. They then announced there was no wifi, so no music. I had to plug in my iPhone. Then the instructor decided we had to wait for 15 more minutes until 3 people who were late showed up. Then the worst part started: the workout. The instructor was lazy, low energy, to the point where Everyone was doing their own thing half the time. At 7.45 (so 30 minutes into a 60 min class) the instructor announced we were done because someone else needed the back room (which we were not using) for another class. The worst is they did not even offer to reimburse us.

REVIEW FOR EYELASH EXTENSIONS
I really wanted to like this place because it’s so close to USC and would’ve been a convenient go-​to for all my eyelash extension needs. However, we started out on a bad foot and I don’t think I’ll be returning.
After buying the Groupon for services, I set up an appointment on their website and made to put down a deposit. However, I was then contacted after by a woman saying that she was no longer employed by them but, thankfully, refunded me.
I, then called, the gym. Somebody answered and said they would call me back if I left my number. They never did. Instead, 5 days later I get a text that said «Hi this is the lash artist from u evolution. Sorry i have very busy. Would you like to set something up this week». So I set up something with her over text.
My appointment was for 9am, so I show up at 9am. Unfortunately, my last artist does not. «Almost there. Sorry,» is what I get texted at 9:04. I sit around, play Candy Crush, and accept a water from the woman at the front desk. She walks in at 9:23.
She takes me to the room and the tables aren’t ready. She has to change the seats while I stand there waiting awkwardly.
I lay down and she puts tape under my eyelids, but then realizes she can’t open her glue. She begins to worry and tell me that this happened last time, too. She has to find hot water. The hot water in the sink doesn’t work so she sticks her head outside and yells at the woman at the front desk for help.
She finally gets started at 9:30am, a full half hour after my scheduled appointment time. I end up having to cancel a lunch date with a friend that was scheduled at 11am.
The rest of it goes pretty smoothly. She does a great job on my lashes. She did tell me she was trying to hurry because she knew she started late, which only makes me think I’m getting less for my money.
My larger complaint about during the process was how loud the room was. At most salons, there’s nice music playing and I can zone out. Instead, we’re in a room where every clock tick, air conditioning rattle, and worried sigh from her is emphasized.
I pay and leave a full tip. I don’t think I’ll ever return.

Great gym! Equipment is always perfectly maintained, flooring is designed to absorb impact when I am doing my HIT workouts. Staff is friendly. I signed up for the no-​classes membership since I don’t really do any classes. But I have to say the classes do look fun & HARD — boxing, TRX, spinning. So glad this is in the neighborhood!

Ive never actually been to a gym before and Im glad to say that coming here for my first gym experience was a total relief! My friend brought me along to a boxing class taught by Jyima and i had a blast! Its exactly what ive been looking for and I cant wait to go back. The instructor was encouraging and positive and the overall vibe of the facility was upbeat and welcoming. It definitely changed my idea of gyms being an intimidating and pretentious atmosphere.
The locker rooms were immaculate. The facility is as well. And the staff was accommodating and friendly.
Crossing my fingers that they’ll open a NYC location!

I wanted to write this while my arms are sore as a reminder of the great workout I just did. It was my first time at UEvolution and I did the Boxing class with Jyima. I was worried at first that I would be the only one in class, but 2 more people showed up and there were a total of 3 of us, which was not as bad as I thought it would be as we each had personalized attention on form and technique. Jyima was helpful and patient, especially since I’m left-​handed and had to be shown everything the opposite way. Class was fun! It started with a jump rope, kettlebell, and Bosu ball warm up, then the boxing section, which included the heavy bag and shadowboxing, then a short stretch in the end.
Idk if the music selection is the same every night, but I definitely loved it when I was there earlier tonight. Boxing to «Beamer, Benz or Bentley», then «Bandz a Make Her Dance» is always a plus. Also, the women’s bathroom was really clean and has lockers, towels, a blow dryer, and showers. One more thing, the guy in front (unfortunately I didn’t get his name) when I first checked in was really nice and helpful. He recognized me as being new and confused, showed me around, and even gave me a 3 day pass to use.
I’ll definitely be back for Boxing and will also try the other classes.

I tried the Cardio Lean class.
It was very early in the morning, so there were only two people, which means that you got a lot of individualized attention. Our instructor pushed us pretty hard – I sweat a lot and was definitely ready to be done at the end.
Breakdown of the class (not necessarily in order):
20 minutes on the treadmill, alternating between hills, power walking, power jogging, and sprinting.
20 minutes: mat work (planks) and bosu balls (burpees, lunges, mountain climbers).
10 minutes jump rope and stairs.
At the end, when I was completely exhausted, she reminded us that it was 8 am! An exhausting workout was a great start to the day.

Gym is super clean and staff is friendly. They also have spa services such as facials, hydro massage, body wraps and individual eyelash extensions. They validate parking so make sure you get the details. Ask about the Groupon deals!!!
They have showers and several classes included in the membership.

Goodness! It’s shameful that I haven’t written a review of UEvolution yet as I’ve been taking classes here for over a year.
I’ve taken kettlebell with Meghan two or three times a week for the bulk of my time — it’s a great workout and my body composition has completely changed. She’s very encouraging — tough though. Breaks are running up and down the stairs, sometimes with kettlebell in hand. I used to take Eric’s kettlebell class on Saturday am, but unfortunately they didn’t replace it when he left. That was a big bummer because I liked the class and the 10:30am time was perfect for Saturday am.
Jyima is a relatively new trainer at UEvolution and I regularly take his Core and Sport Training classes. Core is no mat pilates! It’s a series of exercises that target the core, but there’s leg work, arm work, etc. It always hurts to laugh the next day. Sport Training is like pumped up gym class — ropes, treadmill, jump rope, some weights.
And, yesterday, I finished Jyima’s first 7-​day boot camp. I would do it again in a second if they run an evening option. 6am was rough, but doable and possibly re-​doable. I did lose almost 4 pounds in 7 days though so I can’t complain much. He’s a great addition to the staff.
The gym itself is a 7 minute walk from my apartment so it won initially on proximity alone. It’s small and intimate and the staff is super friendly. I sometimes worry that they won’t be able to handle many more members, given the size and hope they have a strict ‘maximum’. But I’m not helping because I refer everyone to UEvolution.

Meghan leading the kettlebell classes is ‘the bomb’. She’s so good! My husband & I go together. The class is a power-​packed hour & a very good work out. I’m the wobbliest in her class but Meghan is motivating & I saw curves in my thighs & around my torso/​hips after 3 – 4 classes. It’s the biggest pity I’m moving out of d/​town cos I know I would have shaped up really well if I continued attending her classes.
Meghan tells you to go at your pace, she stands by you & gives you a high five as you fight for breathe & your life climbing up & down stairs (or at least it feels that way when doing it & when the hour is over you think that was great, I survived & feel good!). She has very cool music to exercise to.
I felt a good sore after the first few classes but that meant the class was effective & it really was. I didn’t give in to the pain & it lessened with more sessions!

UEvolution is very conveniently located and will have most of what you need in a gym, but it suffers from a few serious hindrances:
— Limited set of equipment: Lateral pulldown machine? Not really. Number of bench presses? 2, and incline benches you have to setup yourself. There’s also not a set of barbells, so you need to put plates on a bar or curl bar yourself. If it were just one thing, it wouldn’t be so bad, but all of the little things start to get irritating.
— Cramped Space: Many of the fitness classes occupy space in the free weights area and the cardio area, so it can be hard or awkward to get to spaces you need. Given that there are already fewer options for exercises, it can be hard to complete a workout sometimes.
— Racism: heh, not from the staff, but the promotional materials and placards in the gym feature only white people, at least as far as I’ve seen. Not the LA I know (or want to live in).
— Limited music: You’ll hear the same songs twice in an hour workout. And the next time you work out.
On the upside, UEvolution was flexible with me on pricing, which I appreciate, and their set of frills is pretty good (shower, towels, water bottles, affordable protein bars, etc.)

Tried the oxygen bar tonight and it was awesome. I did the citrus zing and Rosemary mint scents and they were refreshing.

I love UEvolution! It is an amazing gym. I don’t have a membership, but I get to take 3 classes a month here through class pass, and it is my absolute favorite studio I’ve visited in LA thus far.
The classes are super private. I’m pretty sure the maximum number of people they have per class is somewhere around five, although I’ve come to classes where there’s only been one other person attending. It’s really nice because then the instructors can offer a lot of adjustments and it feels essentially like personal training, without the crazy price tag. I love Megan, any class taught by her is definitely worth taking. She’s super nice and good at pushing you to get a good workout for yourself.
Also, the studio is RIDICULOUSLY clean. The bathrooms/​locker rooms are great. They have a lot of amenities/​products, and they have lockers for your things that you don’t need to bring a lock for, just input a code and it works for the day!

I love this gym! It is a hidden gem with unique equipment, fantastic classes, a spa like bathroom and services you don’t find at most other places. The owner really cares about each member and the staff is always helpful without being pushy.
I am currently trying the infared body wraps which burn 1000 calories in 60 minutes… just laying down and relaxing. Anything to give thst extra boost and more you can find at UEvolution.

I discovered this place through Class Pass.
I took their Yoga class taught by Sara. She is AMAZING.
What was really great about this class was how private it was. It was only me and another student and Sara. I’m not sure if all the classes are like this, but it was really awesome to receive her undivided attention. She fixed my pose and posture to make sure I didn’t injure myself.
The only downside is parking. Ugh. But that’s downtown LA for ya.

This is a fantastic gym located right in the heart of Downtown LA. If you live nearby– go right now!
I discovered this place through ClassPass and have tried both the yoga class and their boot camp. I highly recommend the boot camp — Stacy Yip was my trainer and she was super helpful, motivating and kicked my ass with her personalized workout (in a great way). I would recommend her to anyone looking for a true workout.
The yoga class was a bit beginner for me so I think I will stick with the other workouts.
The gym itself is large, has a variety of machines and TRX equipment as well for any kind of workout. The bathrooms are insanely clean and welcoming and the showers are very nice. Everyone working there is friendly and helpful, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Excited to have a boutique gym in the neighborhood!

I’m able to workout at UEvolution thanks to ClassPass. The pluses. super clean, lockers in locker room, water service (bottled; cold and room temp), towel service, alkaline water dispenser. I’ve taken a few classes here and the trainers are great. and very encouraging. Not sure about parking, the studio is just a few blocks from where I stay at so I just walk over.
One downside that I can see is the gym is a bit small. but its never really super packed from what I’ve seen so getting a machine was never a problem.
I also had a massage with Tiffani. She is super nice and has great hands!

Realistically, I’d say this gym falls between three and four stars. It is beautiful and the instructors are great, the machines are great, and the facilities are beautiful. But the fatal flaw, in my opinion, is that it’s tiny. More importantly, it lacks sufficient dedicated space for group exercise (besides the small studio used for spinning and yoga). As a result, other group classes are held on the main floor of the gym which is small to begin with. I think if I were paying $ 100/​month, I’d be annoyed at that. As someone who has taken part in those group classes, we definitely impede people’s ability to walk from machine to machine.
With that said, the classes are really quite good and the instructors are nice, encouraging, and have created challenging classes that will almost certainly get you in better shape. I do wish more classes were offered, but again, considering the lack of space there isn’t much that can be done in that regard. The HIIT Combat class (misnamed, I’d argue, as there isn’t a combat component) was the most challenging class I’ve ever taken at any gym — by a lot (and I’ve taken my fair share of hard classes).
Their weekend hours at UEvolution are more favorable than at the YMCA, and they close later at night during the week than the YMCA (but open later as well). They also have classes that start at 6AM during the week, but the gym opens at 6AM and on more than one occasion they’ve been a few minutes late opening — I do think if you are going to offer something at 6, you should open the gym at a time that accommodates that start time.
Ultimately, I think I may stick with the YMCA. I can save $ 40 a month and have more classes available. It’s not as glamorous, but the facility is much larger and offers more convenience overall. If I didn’t work a traditional work schedule, I’d more seriously consider UEvolution as an alternative because it’s much closer to my apartment, but the size for me is very off putting because I worry if it grows that the gym will simply become far too crowded to be effective. I love group classes, and the absence of a significant space in which to participate in them is a significant drawback for me.
The locker room is absolutely gorgeous and has self-​locking lockers which is great. The showers are large, individual stalls, but there are only 3 in the men’s locker room. That’s never been an issue, but it will be if they grow in membership. They also don’t have a sauna, which is unfortunate.

I joined this gym about two and a half months ago. About a month and a half ago I cancelled my membership because I was going to be moving out of town. Two weeks after my cancellation, the day my membership would have renewed, June 12^th, I received a monthly charge of $ 100 for the new month! I was furious! So I called them and after speaking to three people, I was refunded.
Now today, July 12^th, I was charged once again $ 100!
Who is running this place?! I’ve cancelled my membership! Why am I still being charged?! I thought, «maybe after the first time they would make sure I wasn’t charged.» But nope!
The only reason I give this place three stars and not one is because the gym itself is nice and good quality and the staff, particularly Jeff Dodson, are very nice and quick to respond with a remedy to the situation when this happens. But the issue is that this shouldn’t be happening in the first place!
The GM and/​or owner/​or whoever is in charge, needs to train the staff to stay on top of billing. This is peoples money we are talking about and shouldn’t be handled so nonchalant.

Bad customer service.
I bought a $ 70 gilt city deal on here for a swedish massage, body wrap, spray tan, and some other stuff. DOESN’T MATTER because I can’t get an appointment made AND kept to save my life.
Made an appointment to get the massage, body wrap and tan. Got a call the day of that they’d double booked and that I’d have to rebook.
Ok.
I’ve tried calling back NUMEROUS times only to be told that (a) they don’t make appointments more than a few weeks in advance and (b) someone from their team would give me a call back re: the particulars.
To date, I have yet to receive a single return call. Also, I don’t fully understand how this business model works here but it looks like everybody is kind of an independent contractor and keeps their own hours? I.e. I was trying to schedule a massage, wrap, and spray tan in the same appointment and it proved to be exceedingly difficult because I kept being told that each of these people keeps their own schedule and thus would have to call me back independently.
What the hell, dude. Total waste of $ 70. How do I get my money back.
