Wally’s Wines & Spirits

This Westwood delicatessen satisfied my pre weekend craving post holiday time.
I enjoyed the potters crisps with goat cheese selected by the counter chef and fresh fettuccine pasta «quick minute» recipe with whole tomato sauce.
And marinated artichokes to go with.
Will repeat.
Very convenient location and parking lot.

As of ¹²⁄₂₃ I received a call from the store manager Devin, apologizing for not getting back to me in a timely manner and explaining the inventory & communication problem. He promised to get an apology bottle out to me the next day, which he did along with a personal note. Tacked on another star for his effort in the clean-​up, because it was appreciated.

My goodness, this place has just about anything you can imagine. As their name says, they have wines and spirits — and that’s almost an understatement. They also have expertise, and opinions, too. So, whether you know a lot or not, it’s pretty easy to find someone on the floor to help demystify your search.
I’ve had great experiences learning more about their extensive Single Malt Scotch collection. As well, I’ve discovered a few wines here that were previously unknown to me. Be sure to look for their special sale — twice a year. Lots of discounts of all sorts of things, and reps from the various vineyards show up in force to help spread the gospel of their respective brands. I was not led astray, I’m happy to say. A bit pricey, sometimes, but again, you are paying for more than just the product. The staff seems to have a very clear understanding of their many products.

OUTRAGEOUS. That is the only word I can describe this establishment’s incompetence and dishonesty. If you’re just a schmuck off the street and not one of their glorious corporate accounts at a major talent agency, don’t bother. We walked in on a Tuesday and dropped 200 bucks on a gift basket that we needed delivered the next day, about three miles away. No problem I was told. I assured them that the recipient would be there all day to accept the package, which they were. FRIDAY they call me to tell me that the package wasn’t delivered because no one was home. After investigation, I found out they lied to me, never delivered the package and tried two days later when it was too late.
Gone are the days when an innocent Christian Navarro (currently President of this place) was roaming the aisles in the 90’s with a ponytail exulting in selling Eric Clapton 100 bottles of Krug Clos Du Mesnil for his wedding. Gone are the days when this was just in essence a mom and pop outfit. All they care about is catering to their big wig corporate accounts or celebrities and leaving us little people having to go elsewhere.

I have been trying to branch out into other wines from areas like Spain and France. The staff is made up of the most knowledgable and friendly wine enthusiasts who truly enjoy what they do. They take their time with you to make sure the perfect wine is selected. I always look forward to going to Wally’s. It is more than just a place to buy wine. It’s a place to learn and explore an extensive variety of the very best wines available. Their tent sales and gift packages are also A++. Cheers.

You can always pretty much find what you’re looking for here sometimes at a price. I’d been looking for Hitachino Beer for sometime and found it at Wallys. Hoping they’ll continue to carry.

Way over priced wine store
They have a good selection but you can go to any place and beat their sale prices
I was just at their tent sale and very sub par compared to years past before they sold to the new owners
No real great deals. Anything I bought that was highly rated at a low cost was horrible. With all the money I wasted I could have bought a 500 dollar Colgin or Harlan

Placed two separate online/​phone orders and neither product was actually in-​stock. No communication at time of order, no offer to replace the orders with a similar product (vintage/​varietal) and no communication after these products went missing to tell me they couldn’t find them. Terrible communication overall and didn’t even get a response to my email to them explaining what happened (now twice).
1 star for having a descent in-​store selection and pricing, but I WOULD NOT ORDER ANYTHING ONLINE FROM THEM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DISAPPOINTED LATER WHEN YOU GO TO PICK IT UP AND IT’S NOT AVAILABLE. We live in the 20^th century and having accurate inventory management systems is pretty much critical if you’re in the wine biz.
I’ll give my business to the Wine House, K&L in Hollywood, JJ Buckley up in the bay area — all which have been able to successfully fulfill every one of my previous orders for the past 10+ years and who actually care about my business.

I always believe that there are two sides to a story so I want to give them the chance to explain, publicly, if they wish.
I called in on ⁶⁄₂₀ asking if they had ceht barrel proof as a gift to my father. Gentleman promised to keep a bottle behind the counter even though it wasn’t their policy to hold. Verified the price as slightly above retail but I was okay with it.
I call in on ⁶⁄₂₁ as soon as they open to confirm the hold prior to starting my drive up. Nobody knows the whereabouts of my gift and they claim they don’t even have any in stock. They questioned if I had spoken with their Beverly Hills location instead. Unlikely but possible, I called the BH location and verified that actually only the LA store showed as 1 in stock.
I called back and after multiple holds and some questioning I was told that the ‘manager okay’d to sell you one’.
I get there and the manager scoffs at me asking for the bottle and has the audacity to tell me that the private selection four roses is far better and even rarer than the CEHT barrel proof.
I explained my situation but he honestly didn’t even let me finish and said it wasn’t going to change anything. No apology no explanation just turned around and walked away.
And also, your four roses OESV barrel is nothing special. Don’t keep that stuff in the back, you can get the similar or even better private selections at bevmo, binny’s, K&L all day long.
Then why did I purchase the four roses? Because I drove 2 hours for nothing and I wasn’t going to go hunting blindly for my father’s gift on the day of.
And since I’ve had the 2013 CEHT barrel proof before and Four Roses OESV private barrels before, I want to say that I strongly disagree with your opinion on which is better. Not to mention the two are completely different bourbons.

Update. Had a few drinks with the old man, Four Roses Icons of Whiskey OESV Wally’s pick is just okay but I prefer their B mashbill over the E anyways.

Dinner there last night was wonderful, and I appreciate that the host staff was able to seat us within their brief estimate and without a reservation. The restaurant is charming, the service is excellent, and the food was delicious. I had a kale Caesar with pomegranate, shaved pecorino and watermelon radish followed by fettuccine in turmeric sauce with uni and salmon roe. My husband had cauliflower and grassfed ribeye with bearnaise and frites. The steak is new to the menu and was excellent, perfectly seared, flavorful and a good deal at $ 39. My only gripe is the $ 40 corkage fee for wines they sell, but I’m cheap. Many of the wines on their list were several hundred and even thousands of dollars, but it is a well curated selection, and I enjoyed a $ 60 Zinfandel aka «primitivo» from Apulia (the plum and pepper flavors complemented both of our entrees) that sells for $ 13 online. Most of their patrons probably won’t mind. It’s still an enjoyable experience, though it’s close quarters.

Sorry disregard this review — wrong place

Any place that wants almost $ 10 for cheese and bread should be exceptional. Fortunately, Wally’s was…
The grilled cheese was epic albeit small for the price. Work ordered from here but I wouldn’t pay over 10 bucks for bread and cheese, just saying.

I’ve been wanting to like this place for years, but I am finally throwing in the towel. I have bought wines that range in price from $ 25 to $ 250, big names and small names, but all have been mediocre to average. The sales people used to be more genuinely helpful, but now every time I go in I get the same exact wines recommended, even a year later, as that staff member’s «favorite.» I have never bought a wine without a markup compared to other nearby wine stores, sometimes up to 20% or 30% higher. You tell them you want a wine at around $ 30, they recommend $ 50; you tell them $ 75 they recommend $ 100. It’s just annoying and a waste of time — you mean all these wines you have at $ 49 or $ 40 are no good? Why sell them then?
Finally I found that the only reason I go in there anymore is that I go to the outstanding cheese store next door and get lazy, walk into the wine shop and get disappointed every single time for the last couple of years. After realizing I was losing hundreds of dollars a year on that regular 20% markup, I have stopped going.

Went to the Wally tent sale and bought three different bug undies that were highly rated and nearly half price. Ah. They were all corked What a terrible wAste of time and money

Let’s start with the positive, the concept and the visual space is executed very well and there are some pleasant employees.
Now for the rest of it. We called to ask for a reservation and were told no reservations since the system isn’t up yet. We walked in, asked for a table for 4 and were directed to the last 4 stools by the kitchen because all other seats were reserved. Lovely. We climbed up into our stools (which are comfortable for a max 30 minutes) and felt the beautiful breeze coming off the AC. The vents are intelligently located right above the long tables where patrons are required to don furs in order to eat and drink comfortably. If you ever wanted to feel like Beyonce in one of her videos, this is the place for you. At least the wine is kept at an appropriate temperature.
Since this is part restaurant/​part wine store there is a lot of the wine and the best part is you can purchase the wine (reasonably priced) and drink it there. When we asked our waitress about a corkage fee she said there was none BUT we would be charged $ 40 per bottle purchased and opened. Confused I asked, again, so there is a corkage fee? «No, because we don’t mark up our bottles 300% we only charge a$ 40 fee per bottle to drink here.» I see, so because Wally’s doesn’t mark their wine up AT ALL there is a fee to remove that annoying piece of wood keeping you from your wine (just don’t call it a corkage fee). Ma’am you’re an idiot, it’s a corkage fee.
Now the service, if you find yourself seated in the section serviced by a short, plump middle age woman with glasses and a forced bizarre accent, pick yourself back up and walk out the door. She was probably the most pretentious irritating human being god has created purposely placed on this earth to test your patience. She was completely useless when it came to suggestions because everything was excellent and her favorite. She also insisted on pronouncing everything with an accent and corrected my French pronunciation — this is America and I speak French fluently thank you very much. She refused to accommodate requests because «the chef» was very sensitive about his cuisine. Um, we can see straight into the kitchen and the 4 Mexican men working the kitchen could give a shit if we don’t like anchovy dressing on our salad. Remember, the customer is always right.
Now the food — the chef allegedly spent 2 weeks just on the ketchup which is inferior to Heinz. We ordered a ton of apps and the charcuterie and cheese were the best thing we ordered. Everything else has been done before better and cheaper. Especially the burger. Oy, don’t screw with a classic and fail.
So overall, go for a drink but DON’T make a night of it. There are just better everywhere.

An exceptional selection of wine and craft beer in the Westside!
I was surprised it took me so long to give this place a visit. The staff are are very friendly and wiling to give suggestions on wine and craft beer for budget.
There are some great deals on wine here at 50% retail and also some craft beer that are hard to find at other craft beer retailers.
I left with a case of wine and craft beer!

Got to say my last visit to Wally’s was less then pleasant, the sales people where all over me to the point of being over bearing and annoying. Then when I did request help and asked for a wine at more reasonable price price point the sales person made his displeasure obvious.
On the plus side, they have some nice wines here some of them are not the obvious ones-​BUT the prices seem to be about 20% more then the near by Wine House and there help is 100% more irritating.

This place is the best place to buy alcohol… They have everything you would ever want, and if its not in stock, they will order it for you. The employees are super helpful, and are very knowledgeable armed with great recommendations. Their prices aren’t lower than others but its not stupendously high so its a great place to shop if you’re looking for weird or interesting alcohol

Simply the best!
I’ve been coming here for years. I don’t live close by, but my office isn’t too far away so i drop by when I’m in the area… I always find some cool booze or bottle of wine that I didn’t need or want and I’m so OK with that.
I went a few weeks ago for 5 gifts for some very picky people. The staff person knew exactly what I wanted and made some great suggestions at all different price points. I ended up with some of the Casa Amigos tequila and it was a huge hit. They do this time after time for me.
I don’t normally buy $ 100.00 wines, but when I do… I go to Wally’s.
Parking is easy and the service is flawless. I’m a fan.

This review is for Wally’s Wine storage which used to operate as Cotner Storage and used to be well-​run with an impeccable reputation.
After 5 years, I get a voicemail stating my cost of storing 72 cases is going up over 50% year over year (from 2013 to 2014). Getting out of here is probably going to require hiring someone, but these guys are losing another customer. (I have noticed lots of empty lockers so perhaps they sold the building.)
Wally’s Wines who bought Cotner Storage should be embarrased by this level of service!
I can’t recommend this place in good faith to anyone expecting consistency.
