Live music makes the wedding feel so much classier. What I liked about her is that she came on time, prepared, and stayed focused throughout, not missing her cue to start playing.

I played the cello when I was younger and hadn’t touched it for ten years. Not only was Suji able to help me go back to basics and relearn proper grips, techniques and later some pretty advanced tips, she was able to spark my enthusiasm in picking up the cello again. I highly recommend Suji and enjoyed her lessons immensely.

I’ve always wanted to learn the cello and so one day I decide to just do it. I went through a few pages of Unilocal reviews and other recommendations before I was lucky enough to find Suji. I was so excited that I called her right away. She did a free consult with me and we talked about my options. When I finally went to my first lesson I was beyond excited! I was nervous because I wasn’t sure if I would understand the Cello, let alone sheet music, but she is really good with helping you understand and making things clear. So when I go home to practice I am actually excited to read the sheet music!

P.S I rented my Cello from Benning Violins– they are amazing and really affordable. $ 54 I think for a monthly rental. Trust me you want to rent one if you want to practice at home to get better.

Suji is a fantastic teacher whom I cannot recommend highly enough. As an adult learning cello it can be daunting to learn a new instrument and to face potentially feeling a bit inept. Suji was immensely helpful putting me at ease during lessons and is the perfect combination of challenging and encouraging that I needed to push myself farther.

How do I even begin?
This past year, having lessons with Suji has required me to face a brand new challenge, reflect on my habits, relearn music in a technical style, and push myself to embrace a completely uncharted territory. I am an adult beginner learning cello for the first time ever, and Suji has undoubtedly helped me grow as a music student and a musician.
I’d never had music lessons before. I picked the cello because of its rich voice, range of emotion, and the versatility as a solo or orchestral instrument. I had a different teacher at the beginning, and I felt incompatible with her teaching style. (It’s like going on a date — you can’t quite place your finger on what it is, but it just doesn’t feel right.) After some research online and on Unilocal,I stumbled upon Suji’s page. After exchanging emails, I booked a first lesson and was immediately hooked.
The lesson was like a breath of fresh air. Within minutes of sitting and playing a simple scale, Suji was able to diagnose all my ailments in posture, sitting, bow hold, first position, finger placement, EVERYTHING. She was very keen on correcting things that needed improvement, and at the end of the lesson (mind you, this was just the FIRST lesson), I was creating sound with the cello that actually sounded musical, with clearer tones and not the plaguing ugly squeaky sounds that nearly discouraged me from continuing with my lessons (thinking maybe I should try ukulele lessons instead.)
I am at weekly lessons at her studio since July 2014. Since beginning, I have moved beyond simple Suzuki practice etudes to pieces that I recognize and like to play. Practicing between lessons is, of course, mandatory, though I’ve noticed that even on days I go into a lesson without having practiced at all (bad student.), I am still able to make tremendous progress with Suji’s tips and corrections during the one hour of lesson. Suji is incredibly patient and scrupulous, stern when she needs to be. Most importantly, her teaching style is very interactive, with encouragement to share feelings and comments on the pieces I’m working on, my goals, and the learning process as a whole, so it is a mutual partnership rather than a traditional «do as I say» approach.
I am exceptionally happy with Suji as my teacher, and reflecting on how much I grew in the last 8 months, I am all the more excited for what lies ahead. If you’re looking for a cello teacher for your child, or just want to learn for yourself as an adult, look no further. You’ve found her.

Sugi has been my son’s cello teacher for 1 year. My son knew nothing when he started. Sugi is very encouraging, professional, patience and knowledgable. I’m very grateful we found her! She’s the perfect cello teacher that anyone can have. She makes sure you know your stuff before passing you to the next level. She takes her job very serious. I first started taken cello lessons as an adult beginner in late 2012 with a another teacher. Initially, I was doing well and moving through songs quickly. However, after a year or so I became frustrated with my lessons. After a year, I was still having trouble holding my bow and developing thumb pain which impeded my practice. I consistently had a problem with either playing too sharp or too flat. I brought these issues up with cello teacher at the time and was told that I simply needed to practice more. After a particularly frustrating lesson, I opted to find another cello teacher. I found Suji via Unilocal.During my first lesson, I noticed the difference immediately. First she watched how I played and gave me specific tips on my bow hold. Within three weeks, I was pain free and was able to hold the bow with ease. She also had me go back to the basics and focus on technique. Suji is a thorough and patient teacher. She knows how to correct bad habits in a way that is comfortable physically and improves sound and quality. I feel like I have improved so much since I have been taking lessons from her.

Suji is a wonderful cello teacher! I had never played cello before and she was my first teacher. She encourages me to improve, practice, and to work hard. She is honest and makes sure I play everything correctly. She catches bad habits early and helps to fix the problem. Suji is very very good at playing the cello– any song I give her she can play perfectly!!! She has an ear for music and knows whether you are in tune or not. To top it off, she can play the piano to accompany you playing the cello. She’s an easy person to talk to and gives great advice on practicing. Not only is Suji a great cello teacher, but she is a nice and funny person as well.

Suji performed the music for our wedding ceremony and it couldn’t have been more perfect. She not only performed beautifully but was also so easy to work and so accommodating as we prepared for the event. She learned several songs for the ceremony that we requested and also accompanied our vocalist with perfection. We are so happy that we found out about her in time for the wedding!

Suji was our wedding musician. Everything was great; she contacted me before the wedding to ask if we have any special songs/​request so make. When we said we didn’t really have a preference, she even played the songs for us LIVE so we would know which tunes were to be played in exact moments.
She came to the venue early for rehearsal and soundcheck (it was Suji on cello and a pianist). I absolutely recommend her for wedding. Her repertoire goes from classical to pop/​modern tunes.

Hired her and her guitar duet for a wedding in August. She came well prepared and ready. She was very professional and pleasant to work with. She read the wedding procession and did not miss her timing of play. I recommend her for any event! Thank you Ms. Kang!

I was looking for a cellist & flamenco guitarist duo for our wedding ceremony and I must say that combo was pretty hard to find. So I had to look for each musician separately and one who was willing to rehearse our wedding ceremony music together. Suji said she would include rehearsal time with our guitarist and she worked together with him so well. Moreover, she’s familiar with the Catholic order of mass so I didn’t have to worry cueing her. If you’re looking for a professional cellist for your event, talk to Suji!

Suji is a great cello teacher! She has patience and knows how and what I can do to improve my cello skills every week.
I have been taking lesson with her for a year. My one-​on-​one lesson is once a week for 45 minutes. I must say, I’m a much better cello player ever since. I’ve never played a musical instrument before. I bought this wonderful cello off craigslist and I’ve been playing it since at the early age of 32.
I had another cello teacher for half a year before her. Of course, Suji is much better then my previous teacher, that is why I’ve been with her for a year now and I’m planning on staying with her for many years to come.
For me, it isn’t a cheap hobby, but it’s an important one to have, just like going to work out regularly. Work out strengthen my body, reading nourishes my mind, and music feeds my soul.

Kimberly our 9 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Ms. Kang for a year. Ms. Kang is a teacher who inspires her students and gets the best out of them. This is very evident in our daughter. Our daughter looks forward to lessons and practices on her own accord.
At the beginning it was rough, but Suji found what inspired our daughter. They have a wonderful rapport and because of this wonderful rapport learning is maximized. Proof is in the pudding. Our Kimberly sounds great and most importantly musical.
The group lessons and recital opportunities Ms. Kang makes available to her students are amazing. What is the purpose of learning and practicing if you don’t also practice playing in front of a crowd? The timing of the group lesson which allowed for performing in front of a small group in a private home eased our shy daughter into the big recital at a church.
I have always been under the belief that if something seems so easy and flawless it is because a lot of effort and thought have been put in. Ms. Kang obviously put this thought and effort into her teaching approach.

Suji has been my cello teacher for around 3 years, and I have to say, she is an excellent one. I started off knowing absolutely nothing about cello. Not even how to hold the bow or what each string was called. However, after about 1 year, I became principal cello in my school’s amazing middle school orchestra. And yes, I did have a bit of competition to get there. She is the most kind teacher that knows how to balance the «practice, practice, practice!» notion and the «I understand what’s happening» notion. Usually teachers are one or the other. Either they are too strict or too soft, and in either situation, not much gets learned. I know this because of the various piano teachers that I’ve been with. However, Suji is the only cello that I’ve been with for the entire time I’ve been playing this amazing instrument. I learned so much from her in so little time and I truly appreciate all that she’s done for me. If your looking for a cello teacher, look no further. Perfection is right here.

I’ve always wanted to master an instrument, specifically cello, and I’m glad I found Suji. She is extremely patient and that is probably the best quality to have as a teacher (because if it were me I would’ve thrown my bow at the window by now). I’ve only been with her for a few weeks but she makes one appreciate the art of playing cello and does her best to break things down so as not to intimidate you. She is super nice but not lax in her teaching. I’m always excited to go to lessons and wish I had time/​money for more! :D
