All-Pro Tae Kwon Do Studio

My daughter has been going to All Pro Tae Kwon Do for about 4 months now. At first, we hesitated about 4 year old enjoying martial arts. After the first class, she couldn’t wait to take another class. It’s the highlight of the day for her to go to classes. We love seeing her learn martial arts and she loves getting dressed up, doing drills with other kids.

Master Andrew Fanelli is a wonderful man and martial artist. I wish I could train with him every day.

We enrolled my 8 year old son in All Pro 8 months ago. My son is not your typical «sports kid,» but he has really grown through Master Fanelli’s program. Master Fanelli is firm, but also really plays with the kids as well. I’m amazed at how much work he puts into his studio. He’s there every day and really working hard and playing hard with the kids.
My son who doesn’t always have the attention span or dedication to remember where he keeps his homework or his shoes, knows ALL the rules at the studio and knows exactly where to go and how to be respectful there. In our everyday life, which is sometimes chaotic, I think he really loves the order and discipline of the studio. He loves practicing his moves at home and always leaves class with pink cheeks and happy.
Master Fanelli has always been very kind and respectful to our family. I also really like that you buy a membership and can choose the times that you go to class in a week. You can also go to as many classes as you want in a week. (We aim for three classes a week.) I wish my daughter’s gymnastics program did that!
The studio is very clean as well.

Wow! What can I say about this experience?
Let’s see… The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean this place was! The most interesting part of this, was the greeting that I received when I walked in the door.
Most martial arts schools will just let you sit in the lobby and say, «Well, enjoy the class!»
Not all pro Taekwondo.
When I walked in the door, they immediately greeted me and asked my name. They gave me a warm welcome and told me a lot about the school and its instructors. They welcomed me in to ask as many questions as I wanted to ask and they had an answer for every single question.
I took the introductory lesson and it was an experience that I will treasure always. Ya know, its tax season now, and best believe my new martial arts studio is going to be ‘All-​Pro Taekwondo’.
I cannot wait for that tax return to get here because I’m going all out black belt baby!

I think it’s time to update my review of this business. I make a point of contributing my feedback as I really value what others on Unilocal say too. We have held two birthday parties at this studio and every time Master Fanelli went above and beyond to make it fun for all the kids, not just mine. We attend lessons 2 – 3 times and week and are on our fourth level belt in the course of about 3 years. I trust Master Fanelli to give me feedback on my sons’ attentiveness and self-​control as he observes every student in class. I took my sons there at 4 ½ years old and we mutually decided they weren’t ready — but brought them back at 5 ½ and they’ve done brilliantly. The studio is clean, spacious, other parents are friendly. I love being able to grab a coffee nearby at Blvd Coffee (see my other review) while my sons are in class. Master Fanelli and Master Dredge (sp?) are both excellent examples for the children and I look forward to continuing at All-​Pro Tae Kwon Do as long as my sons want to.

Also, you had informed me that the uniform would take 24 – 48 hrs, but actually took one week, which was a one week loss of my one-​month trial membership. That’s fine if this is how you’ve done this ‘throughout the years’, but I feel it should be clearly communicated. I definitely do not agree with the month starting prior to receipt of the uniform.

I joined All Pro before reading Fanelli’s Unilocal reviews and after I did read them, I was like, holy cow what did I do? Classes started well so I decided to keep an eye on him. I can say now that I am very glad we picked All Pro. Here’s what I think really shines about this studio and what I think you may need to think about before joining. Let’s start with negatives and then move to positives:
1) It’s pricey. Not pricier than other studios but it does cost money to get a uniform, pay for sparring gear once you’re past yellow belt, and to get promoted. Fanelli is pretty good though about offering you specials if the timing is right and if you ask.
2) Fanelli can be a bit rough with the kids although most of them love it. He’ll pick them up and swing them around, roar like a monster and chase them around. They all end up loving it but it can be a little scary for some of the littlest ones. He tones it down if you want him to. He had no problem when I told him my little one wanted to sit out the games at the end of each kids’ class. She’s built up her confidence bit by bit and now she’s running by herself during dodge ball and swinging her foam sword around at the older kids. You also have the option of taking the kid’s classes alongside your child if you want. I’m doing this along with several other parents and although it can be a little embarrassing to be up there with these really little guys, I’m actually getting something of a workout and it’s special Parent & Child time.
3) The best thing is that Fanelli really does a great job of tracking each person’s progress and helping them get to where they want to be – whether it’s the next belt, a different way of thinking or behaving, or one’s attitude.
4) He’s a self-​made man and a high achiever. This is good if you want someone that an athletic child can really look up to. He’s constantly working on himself to achieve that next level and it’s clear the children respect that. It’s also kind of cool to see how his own children are growing in the program as well.
5) The studio is clean, well-​maintained, in a safe area of Los Gatos and close to a pizzeria, café, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and sandwich shop. Important if you need to eat or run errands when you’re waiting for them to finish class.
6) And the most positive thing of all is that he listens to feedback. I’ve talked with him man to man about altering payments, testing dates, etc, and he tries his best to be accommodating. I think the negative reviews may be mostly from people who wanted to break the contract and then he must have reacted extremely to that. I’ve always had the fact that I signed the contract in the back of my head and only asked for changes that I thought were fair and reasonable. He’s been very positive in this regard. Also, I’m not shy about mentioning things that I would like to see changed and I think he is good with directness.
There’s one more thing that worried me that I wanted to address. That’s what some of the reviewers mentioned about him not correcting moves that were not done right. Yes, he does let bad form slide, but I noticed it is mostly with the younger kids and with people who he does not think want the extra correction. He knows how to do the moves right and how to teach someone to do the moves correctly. I will often ask him if I’m doing a kick or punch the right way and so he will show me how to do something with the correct form even without my asking him, because he knows that I won’t be frustrated if he does this. There’s a black belt who sometimes teaches the adult class in the evenings and this guy is even better at the technical aspects of forms and sparring.
Overall, we’re sticking with this studio and I’m happy with my decision.

Mr. Fanelli had contacted my husband on several occasions and apologized for the whole situation. He seemed sincere in the conversation. He offered his services again and extended invitation to give his business try.

My older son attended All Pro TKD about 7 years ago, after going to another TKD place. Now, my other son attends All Pro (Black Belt Program). What brought me back (other than being out of the area for several years), is the commitment to each individual’s progress and goals Master Fanelli encourages. I love the fact that each student is held accountable/​responsible for their own actions inside the studio, and that there are clear rules to follow, which is great for a high energy and chatter box 9 year old. Another exceptional factor is that all the leaders knew each kid by name~even my son on his first visit. I think this certainly helps to feel more at ease when you are starting something new, and by yourself.
Master Fanelli continuously promotes the best in my child, and also communicates with me frequently regarding my son’s strengths and areas for improvement.
I would highly recommend All Pro for any age looking to better themselves, no matter the reason (Physically/Spiritually/Emotionally~Self discipline).

I am fortunate enough to come to this studio fairly regularly with two little boys, ages 4 and 6, who love going here. Like all children, sometimes they drag their feet coming here (why not stay home and play with trucks and iPads?) but every time we leave, they tell me how glad they are I encouraged them to go and how excited they were to learn new skills. Coming here has been great for them, especially the 6 year old. He tends to be a tactile learner, he has lots of energy, and he can have a difficult time releasing his energy without getting too exited and losing control of his excitement. Tae Kwon Do has provided the perfect outlet for him to get his «wiggles» out in a very controlled way. This is exactly what he needs. I notice a big change in his focus, energy level, and control after he leaves class. Even he has observed that he «feels better» after he goes.
I’ve never taken the boys to a class where Master Fanelli wasn’t leading himself. Yes, he has some of the more advanced belt students there helping, but this makes sense because teaching others is how more advanced students practice their skills and advance further. From what I’ve observed, this only gives the younger students more one-​on-​one attention, which is great. I’ve also noticed sometimes the younger kids have an easier time practicing skills when it’s been explained a second time by someone closer to their age.
I haven’t personally encountered a problem with billing. I’m sure the staff here would be happy to address any concerns if I had them.
So why doesn’t this studio only have 5-​star reviews? Oh boy, where do I begin? Well I hate to generalize, but I can usually tell when someone is likely to write a bad Unilocal review for Master Fanelli and his studio. It starts in the parking lot. Little Timmy is throwing a tantrum about wanting to go get ice cream instead of going to Tae Kwon Do, and without once looking up from your smartphone, you assure him in an almost baby talk coo that you’ll take him after class. During class, you cringe when Master Fanelli firmly reminds Timmy that he must respond with «yes, sir» when spoken to and you fidget uncomfortably when he scolds Timmy for not following directions. Your final straw comes when Timmy is restricted from game time for breaking the rules one too many times. Isn’t that rather UNFAIR? Timmy was simply being a typical precocious child! His questions weren’t being answered. His feelings weren’t being considered. He should still be rewarded for participation. I’m paying you a lot of money to make sure his needs are met! I’m taking my money elsewhere, where the customer is always right!!!
Opinions like the one dramatized above reinforce exactly why the Los Gatos area so desperately needs a space like All Pro Tae Kwon Do and an instructor like Master Fanelli. Life doesn’t always offer you a comfortable, positive, exciting environment in which to thrive. Sometimes life is demanding, difficult, and disciplined, and thriving in this kind of environment is actually all the more satisfying because it was a challenge. This studio offers the perfect space for young ones to prepare for this aspect of life. I don’t want my two little friends to be happy all the time; I want them to feel prepared for life’s challenges and proud of themselves for facing them and working through them. This sense of accomplishment is key to their self-​esteem and their success. This is why I am so grateful for Master Fanelli and his studio.

My son went to this studio for half year then switch to other studio. The owner has no personality, he doesn’t care about kids, but he DOES really care about money. He has no respect to others.
I had question regarding to my son’s class, I tried to ask him after the class, he asked me to call him, I called 4 times and also left the messages, but he never called me back. Then I tried again after class, he was very rude, answered me two words ‘call me’…
Before we signed up, he never had any problem to talk to us or charge us. Funny huh?
Regarding to the class, most of the time he wasn’t there to teach the kids, he hired couple young black belt kids to teach the students, he was pretty much on his computer in his office.
I talked to couple parents, our kids signed up the class at the same time, they both felt the same way. So we decide to leave this studio after 2 other kids left.
Also FYI, you need to pay 1– 2 month tuition as deposit first (I don’t remember exactly 1 – 2 months), and before you quit the class, you also have to send him a notice 30 days ahead, otherwise, you will lose your deposit. Sounds like renting an apartment huh? One of the student’s dad said this Master Fanelli should be really good in sell used cars! You will find out.

We started the search for a great martial arts studio for our kids by asking other parents for recommendations and then visiting studios to check out the classes they offered. Our search ended successfully at All-​Pro Tae Kwon Do Studio in Los Gatos.
Master Fanelli is a 5^th Degree Black Belt with 25+ years of teaching experience, and it shows. My husband & I are continually impressed by Fanelli’s professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm — he is AMAZING with the kids! He has just the right teaching style to keep them motivated and focused on the martial arts skills that they are learning and practicing.
Master Fanelli expects discipline, focus, and effort from the kids because he truly wants them to understand & learn the skills. I have watched my 6-​year-​old son make great progress, and really enjoy the classes and have fun. Our two-​year old daughter watches the classes and can’t wait to join in too when she gets a little older.
We highly recommend this studio to anyone looking for a *great* Tae Kwon Do teacher & studio.

Our 7yr-​old son has been going there since August, 2012. There are a few things we like about:
1. Master Fanelli teaches respect, discipline, and focus to the kids, which is what we expect from a Tae Kwon Do class. There was one time where one kid was rude to the other, master Fanelli confronted the situation and sat the whole class down to talk about being respectful to each other.
2. When a class gets big, master Fanelli split them into groups and get them to work on forms at their level. Kids are also called individually to work with assistants (higher belt kids) at the side.
3. There is always 5−10min group play time with master Fanelli (eg. dodge balls, soccer, etc) toward the end of 45min session. Kids love it.
4. The studio is clean and spacious (and has Wi-​Fi, good for waiting parents).
There are a few things that can be better:
1. There are «assistants» (brown-​belt kids) to help but they are not always consistent in teaching/​helping/​pointing out students’ forms.
2. The playtime toward the end of class, it can get rough on some kids (soft dodge balls, etc). Although we don’t mind «tough-​it-​up» kind of play, I’ve seen kids crying when they get hit by balls or they get tripped. Safety is not a concern (thick mat all around) but young kids can get a bit intimidated.
3. $ 175/​mon is a bit pricy, considering our son can only go twice a week at most.
No studio is perfect, especially if it is run only by one person who is supposed to teach and do all the marketing, public relation, and admin stuffs. We can tell master Fanelli’s passion to teach Tae Kwon Do and his effort to run the studio. The bottom line is, our son is getting something out of the class and he is still interested to continue.
We would recommend the studio.
(2÷25÷2013) We’d like to re-​iterate that this is a nice Tae Kwon Do studio, master Fanelli is really dedicated to the teaching and delivering a consistent quality in all classes. We would give it a 5-​star.

All Pro Tae Kwon Do was highly recommended to us by a close family friend, so my wife went in to check it out. Our daughter was invited to try out some classes at no obligation, and was enthusiastic right away. She likes and respects Master Fanelli — his students want to do their best for him — and we think the regard is mutual! The students are motivated to focus and work hard, while having fun. Besides the experienced quality instruction, as parents we appreciate the clean, comfortable studio with wifi, easy communication with Master Fanelli, the website, the location, and the schedule flexibility. Thumbs up from our family!

All-​Pro tae Kwon Do, yeahhh! love it!

My daughter loves loves this class… Master Andrew is amazing with kids and for the girls– learning self defense is important… There is enough discipline and awareness being taught here!!! Thank you so much Master Andrew for instilling awareness and self defense techniques within my daughter!!!

First things first I have 2 young boys so it was very important that my husband and I make sure that we found the «right» studio for them. I also have trained for MMA fighting at AKA for several years so it was important to me to make sure the person teaching my children knew what they were doing.
These are the following things that were important to my husband and I:
1) discipline-​you cannot learn any true martial arts if you do not have discipline
2) a teacher that had enough teacher to student ratio
3) a studio that actually spends time teaching you the right way to do things
4) a teacher that is experienced in teaching children — teaching martial arts is hard enough when it’s an adult so when you have a child with a 3 second attention span it really takes a talented individual
If these things are important to you then I highly recommend this studio. However if you are looking for a place that is not serious about martial arts and will just stick your child in the corner punching a punching bag or practicing kicks in the mirror not for you.
If you are looking for a daycare for an hour while you run errands again not for you.
If you are worried about a little discipline, not for you.
Master Fanelli is a dedicated teacher that works very hard. He offers discipline mixed with the right level of tenderness.
Master Fanelli is a very busy man and does not have time to sit and explain every detail to all the parents which is why he provides a VERY detailed description about the class, what you need, what is provided, and the rules. The problem is parents DON’T read them.
I find it to be very well priced. I have a 2 children so Master Fanelli offered me a great discount, he also gave me 2 months free. The 500
dollars is also incorrect, once again READ the hand outs people.
I went to several studios and I was very sure of my choice after to talking to several parents in my network.
Sorry for the long review but 1 more thing Master Fanelli teaches at every class and I have never seen that from an owner of a studio.

My wife and I has been looking around for TKD Studio and we found All Pro through Groupon. I gave it a try. one of the best decision I’ve made this year :-)
Let me start first with the studio. The studio is very clean and bright, it has that welcoming feeling as soon as you walked in. My son loves it when they play music during the practice coz’ it keeps him going.
Now about Master Fanelli, first time we meet him, we feel welcomed right away and I just observed that he has a great relationship with the parents of his students. At first, I thought probably because they’ve been there but I was wrong, he made conversation with us, our guest and his siblings like we’ve been there for awhile. He is very approachable!!!
About his teaching style: I dont know much about others so I can’t compare him but from what I’m seeing, he knows what he is doing and the students respect him. He goes to every student and check on them while they are practicing as a group. It may be a group practice but my son likes how he pay attention to every students on the class and teach them individually about what needs to be improved.
About my son, he improved a lot. before this class, he can’t sit still but now, he can and we don’t have to asked him so many times about taking the garbage out on garbage day… for me, thats a HUGE improvement.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE STUDIO AND MASTER FANELLI!
Oh yah… the best part about it is, you get your moneys worth. My son goes 5 days a week, an hour a day for the first 3 and 45 mins for the other 2 days.

My son has been attending All-​Pro Tae Kwon Do since the end of January, at the recommendation of his pediatrician. He is mildly autistic and has ADHD that he takes Ritalin for. He also struggles with low self esteem from not having a lot of friends (a common theme for autistic children). He has moved up from his white belt to yellow belt and attends classes a few days per week. The program gives him an outlet for his excessive energy, and the program teaches him discipline, respect, self confidence, body control, and mind-​body connection. We have been able to scale back his medication, which I never thought was possible. I thought that as he got bigger and older, he would need a higher dose, but since we started him in the program, we’ve been able to drop the dose. When we have issues at home or at school, I am able to tell Master Fanelli who will mentor my son in the next class and provide support, guidance, and reinforcement. As a single parent, that aspect is very much a bonus.
My son very much enjoys physical activity, but we have found that group sports are too overstimulating for him, as they can be for many autistic children. The studio environment, with structured classes have worked great for my son.
Master Fanelli connects really well with all of the kids, and is a great role model (as are all of the instructors at the studio). The prices are competitive with other studios in the area. The studio is very clean and comfortable and has well-​maintained equipment. I highly recommend All-​Pro and Master Fanelli. This has honestly been the best thing that has happened to my son in a very long time.
