Eleanor Martinez, MD, FACOG

My experience with Dr. Martinez has been great so far. I’m 55, in good health and have not had children. She is quite competent, direct, very thorough and so far has given me good information about any issues I have.

She was very rude, not only did she make me feel uncomfortable telling her things but as well as the people there with me.

For an OBGYN, I think most women are looking for a doctor who is:
listens
understanding
respectful: aware that you’re sharing personal details and body parts
on time
She is none of the above.

Dr. Martinez has always been very thorough and addressed my concerns. Her assistants are great with appointment follow ups and record keeping.

My wife went to see Dr. Martinez on April 25, 2014. Contrary to what the standard procedure for my insurance policy (bill my insurance company first, and then send me a bill for the amount that the insurance company does not cover), her assistant was adamant that my wife pay the office visit in full ($ 265 was paid at that time).
Her office proceeded with filing a claim with our insurance company.
On 5÷6÷14, our insurance co sent a statement indicating payment to the doctor in full was made (only $ 167.48 was allowed). Since the office visit was a Preventive Service, my wife’s share of the bill = $ 0.
On 6÷2÷14, I contacted the office to request a $ 265 refund and was told that their bookkeeper will take care of it. However, no check came.
On 6÷24÷14, I called their billing department. The next day, Corina called back and told me that she will go to Dr. Martinez office and notify the doctor to refund the $ 265.
On 7÷9÷14, Corina said that Dr Martinez was out of office the last week; she will call the doctor to find out if the check has been sent.
On 8÷4÷14, Vicky, the doctor’s assistant, told me that the check was cut on Friday 7÷31÷14 and it should arrive by 8÷6÷14 at the latest.
On 8÷11÷14: I called the office once more and insisted on talking to Dr. Martinez. After two attempts, I finally got a hold of her. She had some excuse that she was gone on vacation for 2 weeks in July (does not explain why she held on to the over-​payment for more than 2 months, and why her assistant gave me wrong info on 8÷4÷14). She told me this time that she put the check in the mail today. I should receive it by Wednesday 8÷13÷14.
My take on it is: SEEING IS BELIEVING!
If I don’t receive the check by then, I will add another post!
8÷12÷14: the check did arrive in the mail, a little over 2 months overdue! However, better late than never.

I was very skeptical of her rating on Unilocal — when I first went January 2014, I found her to be helpful, upbeat, and nonjudgmental. It was nice to get a change of pace. She helped get rid of my reoccurring BV (bacterial vaginosis), but in addition to this I had yeast infections that reoccurred monthly because they were never treated correctly.
I gave her a very specific list of antibiotics I had already taken, including fluconazole (I had been prescribed this SEVEN times and it only delayed the symptoms for 1 month every time).
She continued to prescribe me fluconazole, except in different doses and at different times of the month. When the yeast infection came back after a ski trip, she blamed it on my «stuffy winter clothes». She prescribed me diflucan — DIFLUCAN AND FLUCONAZOLE ARE THE SAME THING, please beware of this! Essentially going to her has not helped the yeast infections, the higher doses only delay the symptoms for a few months.
Had she even glanced at my medical history she would have realized I’m already resistant to this antibiotic, but she was in such a hurry (even though I myself waited 40 MINS for her to get to me) that she just went ahead and prescribed me the same damn useless thing. Do yourself a favor and GO TO A SPECIALIST that will take their time with you.

I’ve been to her 3 times and won’t ever go back. The nature of what happened is personal so I don’t want to post it but she’s just terrible. Offensive and judgmental bedside manner, poor quality of care, patient follow up… do not go here under any circumstance.

After my last experience with a different OBG (molested me during my appointment) I was PETRIFIED to return for another exam BUT Dr. Martinez and her entire staff were so amazing, friendly and just over the moon fantastic.
Dr. Martinez was charismatic, helpful and extremely knowledgable and to further that, she has an amazing positive energy about her. She really took time to listen and get to know me as a new patient to provide me with the best care and made me feel so comfortable with the entire process. I am so glad to have found such a great OBG!!!

I do not want to open myself up to a libel suit for supplying truthful details of my direct experience with this ‘doctor’. But, I feel strongly as a human service to others, I should, at the very least, simply state that there are many other OBGYN doctors in the area for you to choose from.

Trasnfusion not only for myself but also unborn baby. He just shook his head in disbelief. Total and utter incompetence. Sham on you dr martinez.

I went to Dr. Martinez for a routine pap smear, but unfortunately there was nothing routine about this experience. I first went in for an annual check-​up, and was told that it was better for insurance billing purposes if I came back a different day to get the pap smear done. I wasn’t too happy about having to make a second trip to the doctor’s instead of just getting everything done in one sitting, but I figured the doctor and office staff knew what they were saying. It turns out I had to go back twice because the first time, not enough sample was collected for the pap smear. As if making me waste my time going back there additional times wasn’t enough, I was also charged for an additional office visit. I have also had to make countless phone calls to figure out what is going on with my insurance claims, and nobody ever seems to have an answer other than «you need to call [another department].»

Unfortunately when a doctor says to you that a woman is «married and the man has a vasectomy» they can still sleep around and get pregnant”!! That was insulting to me as a patient, I will never refer her to no one.
Wow, if that’s what she thinks of the women she sees I am not going back EVER!!!
Yes, sure, I’ll go get a pregnancy test because doctors «assume» one is sleeping around!
I thought a female doctor would have more sense to say something like this to a patient.
I will find a male doctor!!!
To be fair I had left my former doctor for giving me BC pills I started nonstop bleeding and the doctor did not help me on that issue at all, so that’s why I looked for a new ob doctor.
Again Dr. Martinez was helpful and informative, she gave me BC pills 2 months went by with no incident at all, the 3d month I started bleeding from ⁰³⁄₁₅ up until this 04÷04÷12 wich the reason bleeding stopped was because I called them after visiting her on fri 03÷30÷12 she knew I had that issue and she said keep taking them BC and call.
So I called on 04÷04÷12 (bleeding still there) her nurse related to me from the Dr. for me to take 3 BC one every 8hrs, so I did, lo and behold the bleeding stopped. (Of course only for 48hrs I took them) I am not an ididot, I would not take them 3 times a day as Dr. thought! as per our conversation on the phone.
My gripe is that she had told me she could have given me a higher dose, but she wants more test etc. etc.
If she would have aproached this issue differently over the phone, than start talking about «being pregnant by someone else» HA!!!
I have no idea how she thought I work in a «law office» as she started to mention I know how the law is!!!
Um, sorry I work in the dental field for the past 25 years, so you really have me mistaken for someone else all together, I hope you had the right chart in front of you.
I’m hoping to find the right OB for me. Even though I’m in my mid 40’s and with the same man for yeaaaaars!!!

Bad experience with this doctor. She kept telling me I needed a c-​section by a certain date because of the size of my baby. However, when my husband confronted her and asked if there was any genuine medical need for a c-​section, she backed down. Turns out she was going on vacation and wanted me to have a c-​section scheduled before her trip.
I was very upset and felt she had breached physician/​patient trust. Days from my due date, I called her office for my records, and she started yelling at me over the telephone, bullying and threatening me, saying I wouldn’t find another ob/​gyn who would help me. Well, she was wrong. I delivered a healthy baby without c-​section at Sutter Maternity (Santa Cruz) under the care of a professional and nurturing physician who was present for the entire birth — not just the last 15 minutes.

I started to see Dr. Martinez when I was 16… I had a UTI and had to confess to her (and my mom) that it was because I was sexually active. Mortifying as a teenager, but hilarious in hindsight. We still joke about it. After a 15 year break of seeing other doctors (only because I wasn’t living in San Jose anymore), I had a terrible experience with a doctor in San Francisco regarding some unusual test results. I immediately fled back to Dr. Martinez and she talked me off the ledge. She retested everything and educated me on the results and next steps. She takes her time, sits down and asks how you’re doing, explains things in great detail, and genuinely cares about her patients. Much different than the fast paced, in and out nature of big practices who only care about making a profit. While she’s a straight shooter, her bedside manner is one nurture and care. I now have Kaiser, but continue to see Dr. Martinez, paying out of pocket (driving from SF for regular check ups). She astute intuition also discovered my mom’s breast cancer, which was in the glands and not a lump. If it wasn’t for her early detection, things could have turned out a lot worse. I can’t recommend her enough.

i started seeing her when i was preggo and everytime i saw her (weekly) she told me not to gain any weight because i was «fat» yea because i didnt know already?!
i would leave there crying but didnt want to change because she was the only one that i found accepting and has residen at good sam where i wanted to have my baby.
the second my insurance was changed i went to a better place its called the womans center and they are amazing there!

I love Dr. Eleanor Martinez. She always takes the time to give me all of the information I need. Being a woman, she completely relates with me and my issues. Her office staff is very friendly and helpful as well.
