Hair By Ed

Brought my husband on a whim for a hair cut before our business trip. As knows what he’s doing, we were super happy with the cut. And he does amazing color work which I think I’ll come back at some point to do for myself.

Ed is a wonderful, gifted artist and a warm, sympathetic person. I had my first haircut with Ed a bit over a year ago, and have been going back to him regularly ever since. Before then, I have had years of very frustrating experiences with several hairstylists, who would constantly try to impose their own style and latest fashion over the hair of every client. It became such a frustrating experience that I often neglected to see a hair salon for several months in a row, preferring to wear my hair in a bun. When I met Ed, my hair was in a great state of disrepair and unhealthy; and, I dreaded walking into any hair salon. Ed restored my hair to its original health, and with it my eagerness to maintain it properly. He understands that the secret to a good stylist is fifty percent technical skills and fifty percent ability to empathize with each of his client, that is, ability to understand her personal wishes and her hair’s unique qualities to visualize what need be done. As others have written before me, I know that I will leave his salon fully relaxed and satisfied with the results. I also like his salon: contrary to many other loud, flashy, edgy places, it is peaceful, convenient and pleasantly simple and functional, allowing one to enjoy the experience of working with Ed. He is a gifted stylist who truly found his calling, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his care.

I went in for my first hair cut in about a year and I was hurting. I had just had my twins a few months before and my hair and the rest of my life were pretty messy. I was exhausted and overwhelmed and yet still needed a haircut. I went in for a simple trim but what I received was so much more. Ed was positive, nurturing and so incredibly kind. He gave me the opportunity to just relax for an hour and I left my simple haircut feeling, happy, energized and rejuvenated. This review is mostly about what a positive person Ed is but also, I was happy with my haircut and a couple months of growing out it still looks great. I’m grateful to Ed for being a beacon of compassion to me and I will be going back soon.

Edvin has an absolute gift with hair. My best friend, who is a professional photographer, said that she loved the way my hair fell naturally around my face. I hadn’t even told her that I got my haircut, but it was perfect for the photos she was taking, to try to get my new business off the ground.

Ed is the BEST! Trust me when I say that after he touches your hair, you will not want to go to anyone else. I was referred to Ed by my best friend who got her hair trimmed, dyed, and styled by Ed and now only goes to him. I gave it a shot because I was visiting SJ and my best friend has very good taste and high standards. Mind you, I live in L.A. where there are tons of high-​end salons, so my standards as far as what I want my stylist to be able to do with my hair are pretty high as well.
Ed shampooed and conditioned my hair and gave me an awesome scalp massage that I was not expecting. Then he trimmed and layered my hair and blow-​dried it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I feel like a new woman. He is obviously very passionate about what he does and pays careful attention to making sure his client’s hair is a masterpiece when he’s done with it. He is not simply a hairdresser/​hairstylist; he is an artist.

My regular stylist wasn’t available and my hair definitely needed tending to, it had been 5 months since it was cared for properly. I searched for a stylist near me and Ed’s review came up. I had been having my hair done by the same person for a few years and was quite happy with her but as I said, my hair needed help right then and I was feeling impatient so I booked with Ed. I called Ed and he was able to get me in that very afternoon, which is probably good because it left me little time to chicken out and change my mind. I usually tell the stylist to just do whatever they feel is best to my hair, after all, it’s just hair and will grow back. My hair was just barely past my shoulders (if that). My hair grows very very slow and I hadn’t had it cut, other then a trim, in forever. Ed asked me if I usually wear my hair the way I had it when I walked in to meet him. I had it up in a clip, as I usually do because my hair annoys me. He suggested I cut it. He put some highlights in and then washed my hair before cutting it. Okay ladies, let me tell you right now that Ed does a wonderful job at washing hair. It’s like having a scalp massage and is wonderful. He cut my hair and styled it and it looked great. The key though is how well am I able to maintain the look on my own as I am certainly not a stylist and I am typically a wash n wear type of gal. Well, I fall short in the style department but it is still very easy to care for and I don’t have to worry about having it in a clip all the time. It took me a while to get used to the color being lighter then I normally have it as well. I have received many compliments though so will probably keep the style and maybe even the color.

I live in the East Bay and was in the area earlier this week when I remembered that I was nearby. I texted Edvin and he made himself available to me that very same day.
I’m very impressed with his work. Ive been getting compliments all week. He has magical hands.
I think I’m going to have take drives down to the Los Gatos on a regular basis for maintenance. :-)

I cannot say enough about Edvin. I should say his work has inspired me to get a Unilocal account so I can start giving props to my favorite folks. I have incredibly thick and at one point long hair riddled with cowlicks and it’s own personality. I never met a hairstylist that I trusted or who was willing to take my hair shorter.
One of my friends showed up at my house with a killer short cut years ago and I asked her where she had it done. She introduced me to Edvin in 2007 and I have never left him.
My first visit with him was different than any hairstylist I had before. He asked me about my profession, if I had children, what kind of life I led, etc. all to understand the time I had to dedicate to doing my hair, what was age appropriate and yet trendy and what would fit into my hectic life. Going shorter is scary but he made it easy and it was a slow and wonderful transition that kept me comfortable.
I am a walking testament to Edvin’s talent. I get stopped regularly and asked for Edvin’s contact info. After the first few cuts, I stopped telling Edvin what I wanted and I just show up and let him come up with whatever new style he wants. I’m never disappointed and I feel I’ve never looked better! I honestly don’t know what I would do without him!

Thank god I found Edvin when I did. For two years, my hair was over bleached and over processed while I was searching for that perfect stylist. Every time I needed something done, it was an endless search of finding a good stylist and then being disappointed each time. When I finally found Edvin, he was very honest with me about the condition of my hair. Because it has been over processed for so long, my hair was dry and unhealthy. Ugh… so embarrassing but I already knew it was true! He told me he had to take a gentle approach in correcting the color so I was really worried that his method wouldn’t do much on my hair. As some or most of you wonderful Asian ladies know, Asian hair could be super stubborn for color to stick, but not for Edvin! I swear the man is a genius. My color (I like to describe it as a golden caramel :0)) came out fantastic and my hair felt great even after going under for another color job! It has been several years and my last session (2 weeks ago), another stylist in the salon kept coming by to look at Edvin’s foil work on my hair and then came by again to ask how he was mixing his color. I think it says a lot that a colleague (aka competitor) can come by and compliment your work and ask for pointers in front of a client. And now, this week, another one of my gf’s is going to Edvin. Thank you Edvin!

I’m a big fan of Ed, he always cut’s my hair with style and I’ve never been disappointed. Ed is down to earth and easy to talk to.
Sure there are cheaper places to get your hair cut but you get what you pay for. I’ve NEVER been happy with any of the chain haircut places and if Ed retires I’m going to be pissed! It’s hard to find a reliable stylist that you can trust with your hair.

Before I met Ed, getting a haircut was a chore… never liked it… it was just something to find time for at some stage.
As opposed to the usual starting point ‘What are we doing here today?’ I used to hear from others, Ed was the first person that told me what would happen with my hair before he ever cut it and before I said anything… impressive.
More impressive is Ed’s overall skills as a hairdresser. He is a fun guy that gives you confidence that he actually knows what he’s doing and therefore you trust him while having a decent chat /​conversation… and getting a great haircut!
Getting my haircut has moved from the ‘chore’ category for sure…

Seven years ago I was referred to Ed by several Almaden Valley mommies. My hair was a damaged, multi-​colored mess. After a brief consultation he developed a plan to return my hair to a natural color and gave me a great haircut as well. He’s been my stylist and friend ever since. I enjoy my appointments with Ed about every 5 weeks, great haircut, color and stories. I’ve had strangers stop and ask me who does my hair, and I’m alway happy to refer him. Give him a try, you won’t be sorry.

I’ve been through a few relocations over the years. Every time I move to a new place, I do not feel home until I find a master to take care of my haircut. It took me more than a year to find a great hair cut in Bay Area. I love my haircut. Edvin is a true professional, always on time, always great haircut, good sense of humor and always an interesting conversation.
I have been with Edvin for a few years now and not even once I felt even slightly disappointed.

My first hair cut with Edvin was in April 2001. In the decade since then Edvin has done a great job with varying styles of cuts, coloring, and highlights, and I’ve stayed with him through multiple different locations, even places a half-​hour drive away.

Seriously, this guy knows hair.
I’ve been happily seeing Edvin for longer than I care to admit and out of all the other hairstylists in my past, he’s definitely the best. If you want someone who understands hair and instinctively knows what makes you look good, he’s your go-​to guy. He’ll ask you about your preferences, your personal style and then make recommendations to suit it. Coloring — absolutely terrific, spot on, totally in the long term interest of his clients.
Word to the wise. He just moved to a snazzy, hip new location and is looking to add some more clientele. Here’s your chance to get in while you still have one because once he’s booked up, it’s REALLY tough to land an appointment.

I’ve been going to Edvin for several years now. The first time I met him he recommended a color correction and new cut. Both were spot on for my hair, my face and my life style. I’ve seen him do consultations before as we’ll, and he’ll never do a treatment he doesn’t think is in the best interest of the client’s hair long term. He is a great stylist and one I highly recommend!
