I was in the area with a few friends and they insisted that we must stop by Carlock’s. Lucky for us, we made it 15 mins before closing. The staff here is extremely welcoming, patient, and kind. They have a huge selection of goodies and the prices are very, very fair! I bought three cookies, one cupcake, two donuts, and another baked goodie(can’t recall!) for a little over ten bucks! The average bakeries I frequent would usually run me closer to $ 20. The reason for the lack of a star is because none of the baked goods blew my mind. They were good, but not memorable. All in all, I’m willing to come again in the future!

A great bakery with an amazing offering of goods. Great for breakfast, a light lunch, or an anytime snack!

This little bakery has a good verity of baked good from donuts to pork.buns. The turkey and cheese crossitant grabbed my attention. She warmed it in the microwave way too long leaving the crossitant mushy and flat. It was gar from buttery and flaky. The cheese they used was American cheese which I’m not a fa of. I assumed it was swiss cheese. Overall, wouldn’t order this again.

I go here for the bear claws, Danishes and …(Wait for it) … The BEST croissant egg and bacon breakfast sandwich!!! This bakery is a staple in our little town of Los Osos. Expect a lot of people in the morning but the pastries are worth the wait! Everything is reasonably priced(~$ 2 per Danish/bear claw) and the croissant sand which with bacon is $ 4. I often stop here to quickly pick up breakfast on my way to work and they have a few gluten free items that make for a nice treat for my gluten free coworker

I used to go to Carlocks all the time growing up and even more when I started working at the pet store next door years ago, it used to be amazing! Best bakery around, then the Carlocks family retired and sold the business. I’ve been twice since, the first time it was horrible, the second time I thought they at least deserved a second chance, man was I wrong, it’s horrible. I won’t be giving them a third chance. You’re better off going to Ralph’s or driving into SLO.

Whenever we’re in the San Luis Obispo area, we always make the short drive out to Los Oso to Carlock’s Bakery. Simply the best bakery you’ll ever eat at! Their specialties are the baked goods: doughnuts, cookies, croissants, sweets so delectable you honestly have a hard time stopping! They also have freshly baked bread and savory sandwiches! Today I had a ham and chees croissant. Just pure heaven! The croissant was super light, buttery and the flakyiest I have ever bit into! YUM! Loaded with fresh thin sliced ham and cheese. A meal all by itself! But I couldn’t… I never leave without the sweets! Apple fritter, hamentashen and a couple fruit filled cookies to go. Ugh! I’m stuffed! And I have a huge smile on my face. The real feeling of satisfaction! DONOTMISSTHISPLACE!!!

Yummy baked treats, and they even have meat/cheese stuffed croissants they warm for you hahahahaha So fattening. So delish. Go here once a year only, so when you eat 6 – 8 different baked goods in one sitting you don’t feel bad about it. :’)

I give them all my Birthday and special occasion business for a reason. They make the best Birthday cake I’ve ever had! I love their savory items too. Although I am partial to their Cronut — which are unique and unparalleled by any! They offer a wide range of multicultural pastries often only found on a seasonal basis elsewhere.

Apparently when Carlock’s changed ownership their amazing recipes weren’t included in the deal.

We were relieved to see there was a bakery next to the bookstore that had caught our eye as we drove through Los Osos. It was nice to be able to buy a blueberry muffin and a small carton of milk for my child, who obviously enjoyed them. The array of offerings was very impressive in this bakery. Do they really move all that in one day? In other words, can a customer count on it all being fresh each day? I can’t tell you if the sweets taste good, because my husband and I had savory items. He had a sausage wrapped in a biscuit and I had a turkey croissant. We were so hungry that we were relieved to eat but then some things dawned on us. I don’t know if their display case is keeping these things with meat in them cold. Also, all either of us really tasted was salt. And, we had ordered coffees and there were no modern sweeteners to put in them, just sugar and the stuff in the pink wrapper, giving the bakery an outdated feel. As we looked around — yeah, it could definitely use an update. So our feeling about the place was mixed. We would probably return but be careful about what we ordered.

What can I say? I miss Gary Carlock. So sad no one local could step in and carry the tradition. The quality has steadily declined while prices went up, way up, over the past few years. I no longer lust to go here. Too bad because the new owners are nice people and the staff is still friendly and welcoming. But now it is just another bakery, nothing special at all.

Finally got my hubby to Carlocks. We’ve had some baked goodies from here(that other people brought to events we attended) and those — especially cakes — were all very delicious. There are many eye-appealing baked items behind glass counters: various kinds of cookies(some are airbrushed and very colorful) and pastries/donuts. Someone if definitely skilled with an airbrush for decorating things. The snickerdoodle cookie was a let down, not that much flavor to it(like the cream of tartar and cinnamon). The danishes were tried did taste good, and are very sweet! The beerocks are rather good. Nice dough around the meat filling. Heat up very well in the microwave. Seems like the cakes are the best things at Carlocks — yummy and beautiful.

Don’t get the donuts! They leave them sitting behind the counter on a rack all day out in the open, they look good but by the time you get one it’s going stale. The cookies & other sweets are really nothing impressive. They taste okay, if not slightly below average — everything is cheap there, so what do you expect? The young girls working there seem like they are always troubled & are forced to do everything(tall, skinny things) they probably are just disappointed that they work in a cruddy bakery. They make no conversation & make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them while you choose what you want. They have no problem chatting with each other I noticed though. I’ve been here a handful of times just wanting a quick sweet fix & every time I feel like I just need to get in & out quickly. The silence in there makes you want to rush, and while you’re looking at the items you feel like you’re being judged by these girls behind the counter. I will not be going there anymore. The prices are cheap & makes you want to get a ton but it’s not really worth it in the end.

The family loves coming to Carlock’s. I love their cronuts! The filled cronuts are the best. The bear claws and jalapeño & cheese fritters are another favorite. The owners seem to be getting a little friendlier than in the beginning. I really wish they were open on Sundays or Mondays. They sell out pretty early on Saturdays and the selection is minimal by 2:00.

Great birthday cake for a very good price. The cake was moist and yummy. The decoration on top was intricate and carefully done. Great job!

Carlocks has pretty good pastry’s and what not, but in the 20 years I’ve been going there nothing beats the Jalapeño and Cheddar fritters. They’re very versatile, you can chow down on them by themselves(I prefer to heat mine for 10 – 15 seconds) or to use as a sandwich or burger bun. Try them, you won’t be disappointed.

Well, another bakery bites the dust. I chose carefully. And came away with a cream cheese filled croissant and a cheddar bacon fritter. One bite and I knew neither were worth the calories. For me. Not bad, not great. The croissant was soft, not flakey. The fritter reminded me of the consistency of chewy Bisquick that was fried. I am not in love. I have had better.

I noticed most of the reviewers brag that Carlock’s is the best local bakery around. My road trip warrior bragged that Carlocks chocolate croissants are as lovely as the chocolate croissants you eat in the shadows of the Eiffel tower. I think Carlocks is the most incredible bakery I have ever been to with fluffy white cake donuts perfectly decorated with rainbow sprinkles, light flaky buttery croissants, and moist almond crescent cookies dipped in chocolate. Saturday late morning the bakery was packed with locals eating delicate pastry’s and donuts while sipping their freshly brewed coffee talking about the local events and a line almost out the door to rival anything at Voodoo Donuts in Portland.
