History
Established in 1995.
«When I first saw the Aleksander House, it was not a bed and breakfast. It was a 4200 sq ft single family Victorian Italianate home in the 3rd largest preservation area in the United States, Old Louisville. It was spacious and friendly and seemed well-suited to entertain over-night guests. So the idea of creating a bed and breakfast made sense to me.
It took almost a year for me to convert it. I had to deal with The Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits, The Health Department, The Fire Marshall, The Historical Presevation Society and the City and State Revenue Cabinets, to name a few. New locks, emergency lighting, parking facilities, door closures, etc had to be installed. And workers of all kinds came and went. Some were dependable and some were honest.
Eventually The Aleksander House was created, an intimate, romantic place of lodging. I named it Aleksander after my grandson. Inside, the rooms are named after other members of my family, as is the garden.»
