American Nails

This is the cleanest, well kept salon I’ve been in a long time, fast and friendly staff and no more than any other salon, they have this cool mood nail polish in gel that is fun and pretty.

I had my first gel manicure at American Nails last week. I really enjoy the salon itself. It’s a large space, that’s well decorated, with a great spa feel. The salon seems very clean and well kept, which I have noticed many other salons don’t seem to care so much about. I did not have a pedicure, but I am looking forward to going back to have one there in the future, because the chairs look very relaxing and I watched a pedicure being done during my manicure and it seemed very thorough and enjoyable. The staff in the salon were very nice to me, attentive, and quick to greet me and get my manicure started, so I have no complaints there.
The reason for my low-​star review is because I was not extremely happy with the manicure itself. Initially I asked for a specific paint job on my nails and they told me they could not do it, because it was too difficult and would not turn out well. (It was a maroon/​burgundy color with a clear triangle at the cuticle.) I was fine with that. If you can’t do it you can’t do it. I went with a simpler design, maroon/​burgundy with a gold glitter accent nail on the ring finger of each hand.
My manicure started well. The technician seemed knowledgeable and thorough in prepping my hands and her tools. However, throughout the manicure process she did not push back my cuticles well or cut the cuticles and skin around my nail beds well. I don’t feel like she really removed the excess cuticle and callouses around the nail at all. Also, my hands were never soaked during the process, just left with cuticle remover on the nail in a heating glove for a moment.
I was also not happy with the finished paint job I received. When I manicure my nails at home I am very thorough. I make sure to push back my cuticles, cut them, and paint all the way to the edges of my nail bed. I have uploaded photos of the paint job I received four (4) days ago. My nails have not grown out within that time period, it’s just that they were never painted fully.
I don’t feel like the technician was rushing, because the salon was fairly empty while I was there. Every other person in the salon was being helped, no one was waiting.
Again, this was my first experience with American Nails. And I feel like the technician may have been too careful because we were using a darker paint color. I plan to give them another shot with my usual French tip gel manicure in the future, and as I mentioned above I’d like to go in for a pedicure as well. Hopefully at that time I’ll be able to update my review to a better experience.

This is hands down one of the better nail salons I’ve been to so far in the city of Louisville outside the realm of a full service spa. I’ve been here a few times now for various services ranging from simple manicures, shellac, pedicures, and acrylic. Every time I’ve been for the most part I’ve had a good experience, with a couple exceptions.
My most recent excursion was Friday, I had a wedding that night and wanted my nails done professionally. I normally don’t have issues, I’m not a very chatty person so it doesn’t normally bother my if my technician isn’t chatty either, but usually the technician at least says something to me. On this trip I went with my girlfriend who sat next to me, her technician was interactive, would ask her questions, if she was ok, if she liked her color choice, etc. My technician, well, she said maybe three sentences to me the entire time. Most of the things said were «Pick your color.», «Go wash your hands.», and and the most said was during an exchange about my top coat. Normally, I don’t care about all that. I’m not sure if the tech was angry I made her take her gloves off and wash her hands, she had been wearing latex gloves which I am HIGHLY allergic to. Typically they don’t wear gloves for hand services, only foot. If I come in for a pedicure I make a point to bring a pair of sealed nitrile gloves in small, medium, and large (usually 4 or 5 pairs if they need to change gloves), just in case they don’t have any. I’ve never had an issue with this. We went through the entire service and I noticed at the top coat stage we didn’t put any top coat on my right hand, I brought this up and she insisted she did and that I had already cured it. I was very tired, had little sleep and thought maybe I was going crazy so I let it go. Lo and behold after I paid and left and got in my car, my left hand, nice, smooth and glossy, right hand was dull and rough. I didn’t have time to get it fixed that day.
Normally I’d leave a terrible review, demand a refund, blah blah blah. This is American Nails we’re talking about though, the only nail salon I’ve ever been to that autoclaves their tools. The only nail salon I’ve been to that doesn’t bat an eye when I ask them to wear my nitrile gloves because I know I’m not going to have an allergic reaction that might kill me. The only nail salon that makes an effort to not actively converse amongst themselves in another language which seems to always make people feel a bit uncomfortable (I know some people say they do it, supposedly they aren’t supposed to according to a friends Mom who used to work here). So I made the trip back to American Nails on Friday and explained to them what happened. There was no arguing, there was no checking records, or making me prove that I paid for a shellac, or even asking questions. The manager just apologized profusely, pulled up a station, and took care of it right there and gave me a card that gave me my next Shellac for free.

On my visit, I came in with 2 other people in front of me. I asked when signing in how long the probable wait would be. The receptionist told me only 10 or so more minutes, not long, and to pick a color and someone would be right with me. After about 15 minutes someone pointed me to a pedicure chair. That pedicure chair is where I waited for over an hour with my feet in what ended up to be cold water. Over an hour. Without someone coming to tell me it would be that long before someone got to me. If that were originally said, I would have went somewhere else! I felt like their motto was quantity over quality.

I went her because I was going out of town couldn’t get into my regular place.
I walked in and was greeted, but that was about it for personal communication. First of all the place is HUGE and there are a lot of people working there. I truly felt like a member of a herd of cattle. I waited and finally a gruff woman came over and pointed where I should sit. I was hoping that she wasn’t going to be my manicurist, but she was.
The time I sat there I felt «manhandled». She wasn’t even watching what she was doing. She blankly stared past me whenever anyone came in the salon. She only spoke to me in grunts and never smiled. She spoke in Vietnamese with her friends and kept missing my nails while she filed. She painted my nails quickly and just scraped off all of her mistakes with her fingernails and it hurt. I received a less than average fill-​in and walked out of there dumbfounded. What just happened? I will never go back.

Very nice place! The music is relaxing and the removed my shellac with no pain! Will be back for a pedi next time.

I love this salon! I go see Theresa for gels and she is extremely skilled and receptive. I am VERY particular about the shape and thickness of the nail. And I am always getting specific paint designs. She has a steady hand and is very detail oriented. I’ve been to nail salons all over Louisville, and this is by far my favorite!

I have been to many nail places in louisville, but this has been the best by far. Teresa was thorough and did an excellent job on my acrylics. She was friendly and made sure that i was satisfied with the work. She didn’t rush me in picking out a color and was so polite. The salon was clean and the rest of the workers were friendly. I was very satisfied with how well they did. I will definitely be going back :-)

I only left one star because zero stars wasn’t an option! This place was awful! The technician cut me multiple times. It took two hours to get a full set. I asked for a design on my nails which I was told they could do, she got one nail done and it looked terrible! There are much better places that I will needing to go to today to get this crap fixed!

American Nails did a good job on my nails.
But the reason I gave it one star is because two nail technicians cursed me out in Vietnamese in front of my face. They said I took too long to select a paint color and then called me repeatedly the Vietnamese word for «dumbass.» In Vietnamese, that is a very harsh word. They thought I did not know Vietnamese. So when I confronted them, they looked ashamed but didn’t apologize.
I believe this type of customer treatment is unacceptable. And I am horrified and disappointed that they abused their language ability to demean a customer.
I hope this was an isolated incident, but I will neither return nor recommend its services.

I don’t think you’ll find a better nail salon. I get a manicure and pedicure here about once a month, and it has consistently been the most thorough basic mani/​pedi I’ve had. The basic pedicure includes leg and feet exfoliation, which I haven’t had elsewhere. Additionally, they are extremely thorough with the leg and foot massage (as well as the hand and arm massage). Other places seem to give you a light, quick rub, but here they take their time and put some muscle into their massage. Also, they have a very large selection of nail polishes to chose from, and my polish really seems to last here. I once had a (regular) manicure go a week without chipping.
My one and only complaint here is with the massage chairs for the pedicure. They have hardly any power at all. You care barely even feel them moving. Most places, the massage chair has you shaking and bouncing from all the kneading and movement. However, that’s not a deal breaker for me, and despite that, I still give this place five stars.

Went in for a manicure. Houng provided an excellent service! I was very impressed! Definitely going be a regular at American nails… My nails look stunning Worth every dollar paid!

I got a pedicure here and it hurt!!! My cuticles were clipped too short and I was bleeding in a couple spots. I was not impressed that they started to chip in two days either. Was hoping for a better experience.

Came here on my lunch hour and was in and out with a shellac manicure in 30 mins. It was great! Very nice nail tech and they were extremely efficient. I’ll be back!

This was my second visit to American Nails. I came in without an appointment for a basic pedicure and shellac manicure. Huong got me started right away with my pedicure, and did an excellent job. This was my first one ever, so I didn’t know what to expect. She was very nice and gave me clear instructions. Even with the basic pedi, she exfoliated and massaged my entire lower legs. She did multiple coats if shellac for a nice solid color, and massaged my hands, wrists, and forearms. I plan on going to her on my next visit.

Got just the basic pedicure… Felt AMAZING. The salon is gorgeous. A great spa like atmosphere. Prices are normal.

Please wear a mask instead of coughing and sneezing all over me during my services. I’m captive as you’re projecting your germs all over me. I noticed one other customer getting sneezed on.
Mani and pedis are usually good and a good value, depending on who you get. I’ve left with bloody fingernails a couple of times, but they always apologize (although I think a discount should be offered).
My pedis usually last a long time.

Today was my first time ever going to this salon. I loved it. It’s close to work so I could go on my lunch break, the paintings in this place belong in a museum. There was one of Downtown Louisville painted from the Ashland Park in Clarksville, IN view. Another painting of horses racing in the derby with a beautiful Fleur de Lis in the background. There was no wait and looked like there were plenty of employees to accomodate many customers and there were several customers. I had the paintings as well as several TVs with sub titles to choose from. The price is right. Since my favorite place closed this will be my go to salon now.

I loved the atmosphere here! I had my acrylics removed and explained that I wanted a really natural look to my nails. Khristy delivered fabulous results.
I walked in on a Saturday afternoon without an appointment and was serviced right away. I also appreciated that the ladies I did see interact with each other used English. I would definitely recommend this shop to others. And Khristy said she could treat my natural nails and help them grow if I come back in two weeks. Love this place and I wish I lived here so I could come back!!!

I really enjoyed my visit to this salon.
I went on a saturday (bad idea) with no appointment. I did end up sitting for about 30 minutes before I was taken back to the pedicure area. They had a large selection for colors to choose from.
The lady was quick/​efficient and didn’t seem to cut corners on making me feel relaxed.
After my pedicure I had a manicure, she did a wonderful job on my fingers.
Both treatments stayed on without chippinf for at least 2 weeks (my fingers always chip quickly).
It can be pricey-​so beware. Just ask for the regular mani/​pedi if you are looking for prices you are used too. If you want something above an beyond I think the special pedi’s started around $ 43.00.
They do have a private lot for parking-​a very small sign points you to it, you will most likely drive by it if you are new to the area.
