Came here expecting a great meal. The food was okay and the service was lousy. The cooks only cared if it was time to go home. The wait staff… Well MY waiter was trying to impress a mom and her daughter at the table next to me and was in a hurry. When he brought the high chair to the table he managed to knock over a soy sauce bottle which flooded the entire right side of my body. Now I understand that accidents happen, but he said«Oh did I do that!?» Then he disappeared for about 3 minutes and comes back with a towel and seltzer water on it. Then the manager was making his rounds and I informed him of the incident(apparently my waiter didn’t tell him). The manager paid for my dinner and gave me a very tepid apology. Not coming back ever!

This is a pretty decent restaurant. The service was good and it is entertaining to watch them cook

The Mongolian grill itself is a 4… fresh ingredients and fun time watching them cook it. The service… meh. We ordered the fried rice at an extra price(plain rice is included) but our server brought it out when we got up to go the grill. By the time you build you master piece, stand in line, and watch them cook… yeah like 15 min have gone by. The rice was stone cold. We asked for lettuce wraps… she walked by several times, promising to get the lettuce… then she’d go do something else. We wanted fresh bowls for a second trip at the tasty goodies… and she kept forgetting the bowls. So experience was… a bit disjointed.

BD’s fun, interactive dining experience is based around the concept of filling a bowl with raw ingredients, sauces, and spices then watching as they are grilled Mongolian style. While the outcome depends, in part, on an individuals ability to mix and match ingredients in a manner that makes sense, I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve eaten at BD’s. The last time I was in I also tried their soup and salad bar for the first time and was beyond impressed with their soup. I probably could have skipped the stir fry and just eaten that. BD’s is also extremely allergen friendly. They offer a list of gluten-free sauces and have a separate allergen-free grill area that is totally separate than the main grill. They will also substitute lettuce wraps for the rice at no cost.

I can’t believe I’ve never been to a bd’s Mongolian Grill before! It was great. I love being able to customize your own stir fry. When you arrive you’re given a bowl and you can fill the bowl with as much or as little as you like. You first choose the type of meat you want(shrimp, chicken, beef, tofu) and then you load it up with basically any vegetable you can imagine. As long as it fits(or in my case, balances on top) of the bowl, then it’s fine. Then comes my favorite part — making your own sauce! That’s something that can ruin stir fry for me — a sauce that doesn’t jive. There’s several different types and you’re able to mix them together to find the perfect one for you. They also have minced garlic, an array of spices, and nuts to perfect your sauce. The cooks prepare the food on the grill as you stand and watch. This part takes approximately 5 – 10 minutes. When I went, it wasn’t busy — but I think it would be problematic if the place was packed. All in all it was a great experience. Great food, good service, and reasonably priced. I’ll definitely go back.

Pick your own ingredients and they grill it up for you. Not confident in your ability to choose ingredients… they’ll do it for yo if you ask. If you don’t walk out of here fat and sassy then you’re not doing it right. The place is clean and service was acceptable. Seemed to have fewer veggie selections than other BD’s, but not a deal breaker.

BD’s is a unique dining experience, with the massive open grill and a ton of good choices to make in your bowl, the variety and choices to choose exactly what you want and go right past what you don’t makes sure you aren’t paying for a stir-fry you don’t have to pick through to avoid pieces you loathe(ahem…mushrooms…a.k.a. my wife) There’s so many variations there’s no way you could even attempt a «sampler» stir fry to cover the flavor spectrum, drawing you back to create a new concoction. I’d do it again, but there’s no way i could regular this place.

Well lets say when we first started going there things were great. Kind of like your teen love experience. Neat you can make your own sauce and load up on as much stuff you can fit in a bowl. FYI they have an allergy grill if you suffer from a peanut and or tree nut allergy like my wife. Which made it perfect. Then came the break up. It was slow at first. Oh I didn’t know you ordered an appetizer let me serve that to you when you get your meal. Last time I checked an appetizer was pre-meal. Then came the big blow out. Hair in the food twice. Yeah first visit I chalked it up to it can happen in any restaurant. Then it happened again. When I talked to the chef she said hmmm that looks like my hair and was smiling. Duh you think it was your hair! I have short hair and this thing is as long as the line at an apple store when they release something new. This was at the allergy grill which is one person and one wok. Not at the giant grill where 3 people cook and numerous dishes are cooked. They did give me another bowl but I couldn’t even think about eating it. All I kept thinking was hair hair every where.

I love the concept and they explain it well. My individualized stir fry turned out very tasty both times I went. The second time, however, my waiter was a complete a**. When I asked for more water he actually rolled his eyes at me. Haven’t been back since.

I’ve always been a fan of Mongolian grills back home(Manila, Philippines). I’ve been living in Louisville for almost a couple years now and have just recently discovered that Mongolian grills do exist here. :| Coming from a huge city, I really am not expecting a diverse selection of restaurants here in Louisville. For those who are not familiar with this Mongolian grill concept, it’s pretty simple. Just put everything that you want in a bowl(pasta, meats, seafoods, and veggies) and then they’ll cook it for you on a grill together with your self-mixed sauce. You are your own chef and if your food don’t taste good, there’s pretty much only one person to blame. :)) I’ve been to BD’s twice, the first time was for dinner. It wasn’t that packed considering that it was a Saturday night. We were seated right away which was good ‘coz I was already starving. Food was good and there was a wide variety of meats and seafoods available to choose from(or just mount all of them in your bowl). I think I made about 2 lbs worth of food that night. Gotta make the most out of your $ 12-$ 14! The second time is the reason why I’m only giving this place 3 stars. We were there for lunch yesterday, which was cheaper than dinner at $ 8.99/bowl. I don’t know if it was just me but the meats and seafoods didn’t seem to be as fresh as they were the first time we ate at BD’s. I lived in a tropical country for 22 years of my life and I can definitely tell if seafoods are fresh or not. They smelled kind of funky and tasted stale after it has been cooked. I love seafoods and I unfortunately had to set them aside and just eat the beef and the chicken that I got. The chicken also tasted weird, not sure if it was because I already lost my appetite or if it was really stale as well. I would say it’s probably better to go during dinner time. It’s more expensive than at lunch time but maybe they serve fresher produce during dinner. Maybe ‘coz more people come in at night(?) and maybe what they serve for lunch are the leftovers from last night(?) Ho-hummm… not sure but it’s still good and I would say that it’s still value for money, being able to get what you want and make it taste how you exactly want it to taste like. Plus they give you an option of having your meal with rice or wrapping it in tortillas with no extra charge. *TIP: Get veggies first before meats. This is to keep your veggies from rolling down your bowl. Meats and seafoods stick to each other making it easier to pile up more ingredients without having to worry about looking like a greedy person still trying to stick stuff in while the rest are already falling off.

Love this place. Ate there last night for my birthday. Food was great as always. Love making my own sauce. Only complaint both times I had to tell the«cook» you need to add the sauce. Always tell people to check it out.

This wasn’t my first visit to B.D. Mongolian Grill, and it won’t be my last. It’s important to remember that while you do get table service as far as the delivery of drinks, utensils, etc., part of the fun of the restaurant is putting together your own dish, giving you a feel that is part salad bar and part Benihana. If you’ve never been there before, here’s how it basically works. After you’re seated, your server will go over the menu with you and explain how things work. You’re given a decent sized bowl; asked if you’d like white rice, brown rice or warm tortilla wraps. You now approach the first station, which contains your meats, poultry and seafood, giving you choices as wide ranging as ribeye strips, strip steak strips and duck slices to chicken breasts, scallops and shrimp. Next comes the vegetable area with everything you’d like for a stir fry(even raw eggs). Finally comes the massive station with a large variety of sauces and seasonings and toppers. Once you’ve finished filling your bowl, you approach the stir fry area where two of the«cooks» do a bit of an act as they simultaneously prepare each person’s bowl, usually 3 or 4 at a time. It’s a mini-show and I don’t mind tipping the guys for a job well done. By the time you return to your table, your rice or wraps should be there, along with your drink of choice. Now if you don’t enjoy this sort of «service» or you hate buffets, then B.D. Mongolian is not for you. There is a bar area — the restaurant does sell alcohol(beer and cocktails) as well as non-alcoholic drinks. The restaurant is also very family friendly, which means, well, families of all ages. When I went here for my birthday weekend, my meal was ruined by a child of about 4 or 5 whose parents refused to discipline him, and allowed him to bang a spoon on the table as well as scream hysterically for about 30 minutes(due to it being a busy dinner service, I couldn’t move so I had to suffer). This time, I was there for lunch; there were families present, but none of them were like that infamous evening in February. I don’t mind children, and I realize that when they’re hungry, they can get loud, but that incident was ridiculous. But back to this visit. Dinner service is higher than lunch. You can also sign up for rewards and get a free birthday meal. But one disappointment this time out: for $ 8.99 for lunch, you’d think a non-alcoholic drink could be included, but it wasn’t, pushing my total bill to about $ 11.00. I’ll definitely be back, and by the way, carry-out is available and can be just as good, or if Takeout Taxi serves your area of Louisville, you can get home or business delivery to certain zip codes.

Okay, first off I want to give this place no stars. I feel that this place is a real health concern. Here’s the breakdown: You walk in and the waiter gives you a bowl. You go down the line of raw opened — container meat, that isn’t seperated by category(beef/chicken/pork/seafood) and select what you want. I’m smelling a cross contamination suit here. Not only are the open containers of meat a scary prospect, but what if someone is just coughing all over them? How long have they been sitting there? I wish the meat was behind glass and you could pick what you want them to cook. That would make more sense. Second you pick a sauce, also in an open container where germs fly in and out as they please. Third you hand it to the grill cook. i.e. about the ‘chef ’ I saw this guys buttcrack… Is my cook a plumber? Has he ever been a chef? He didn’t season any of the meat and here’s the scary part people… It wasn’t cooked all the way through. ITWASRAW! All those sauce germs all those meat germs… in my body. The rice was small in portion, a very small bowl is served, and it was barely warm I don’t exaggerate and the place is severely overpriced. I will never ever return here and I am seriously warning all you health conscious people to do the same, unless you want a serious food-borne illness on your hands.

Okay. Here’s the thing: I hate restaurants like these. Sue me. I don’t want to have to help prepare my own food when I am paying 12 some odd dollars to go out.(I only make exceptions for Korean BBQ.) Here’s why: in my own cooking I have a vague idea of what tastes good, but that takes practice, and lots of it. I’m not always sure what flavors compliment each other. Any experienced cook knows that it takes work. I don’t want to have to work to put together something that MIGHT taste good. When I go out and eat, I want that guaranteed(at least marginally so.) That said, I will admit that this place was pleasant. The staff was friendly, polite, and efficient. The manger was visible throughout the restaurant, which was impressive. The ingredients for your food are placed on a sort of buffet/salad bar like structure. All of it(even the sea food) was fresh, filled, and not messy. The vegetables were in their proper bins and everything had its own serving utensil. I was impressed by their selection of asian vegies –water chestnuts, bok choy, mung bean sprouts, and bamboo shoots. The sauces were actually quite tasty, although it took sometime figuring out what would serve as a nice pair to my food. They even let me take multiple sauces for the side. The one thing that did bother me was that everything get’s cooked on the same grill with swords(yes, swords), which is fine, except for that the food gets mixed together a bit with other people’s. I had noodles, in what I intended to be a stir fry. This is nit-picky, I know, but do you really want my jalapenos in your pasta? Probably not. My dish came out decently tastey. The freshness of all the ingredients played a big part in that, so major props to this establishment. My roommate would probably give this place 5 stars, because she LOVES to eat at more interactive restaurants. I don’t, hence the 3 star rating. I would definitely suggest going to this restaurant if you, like my roommate, like playing a role in the cooking process. I imagine that children get a KICK out of this place.

I typically have a good time at interactive restaurants. I love being a part of the whole cooking process. It can be a lot of fun, especially when that’s the type of dining experience you’re going for. I’ve been to BD’s several times, and I’ve never had a bad experience. My first time was slightly intimidating. I’m seeing people pile their bowls up to crazy heights, and I’m worried that the little I have is going to topple over. And then when I got to all of the sauces I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to decide what I wanted and hang onto my bowl. I’ll be the first to admit, the experience can be a bit overwhelming for a first timer. But don’t let process distort your view of the place. Once you load your bowl up with meat, veggies and pick your sauce(don’t forget the water chestnuts), the grill masters cook your food up on the huge grill and you get to dig in, it’s really good and worth all of the hassle. That atmosphere is usually pretty lively. I think it’s because people really enjoy the building and cooking part of the place. Kicks the excitement factor up a notch. I’d say give BD’s a shot.

Mr says… Mrs says… signs says«opening in 2 days» but there were people eating out in the patio area and inside. to our surprise they’re doing a mocked up service kinda in training before they open«in 2 days». actually its by invitation only for those doing a survey but since its just me and my husband we were let in for a great lunch experience. basically its your typical mongolian grill similar to korean and japanese cuisine. there’s raw meat, seafood, vegetables and a variety of sauces to choose from. you start with an empty bowl to fill with whatever you like but they also have menu cards wherein ingredients are already outlined. i happened to try the menu card for mongolian beef which i find a little salty. i think the teaspoon seasoning salt is not necessary since the ladle of blackbean is already salty. rice and/or tortilla was provided. we went to the grill twice and got refills of our Mango slush type drink. anyway the mocked up service was great. servers were all pumped up. our lunch was totally F-R-E-E but now my question is how much it would cost when they actually open :) we will have to write another review
