Block Party Handmade Boutique

I wanted everything in this store. I want something from each of the artists in this place. This is a great place is you are looking for fun, funky, AMAZING stuff from local artists. Themed coloring books (like Game of Thrones), felt taxidermy animals (Horrible Adorables were probably my favorite thing there), art prints, headbands and Lionel Richie ornaments. Since this is local artists, I expect there stock to change on a regular basis and that is amazing! Go here and support amazing local artist by being amazing yourself. I look forward to my next stop here.

Block Party Handmade Boutique is, in one word, awesome! Housed in an amazing building in the heart of South Fourth Street (SoFo to some) shopping district. The large shop offers plenty of space for the variety of jewelry, soaps, clothing, art, and other gift items they have available.
I often visit Block Party when looking for presents for friends (or a treat for myself). Their unique merch is like browsing an art & craft fair any day of the year. My current favorites include Black Dog candles, shawls that have incredible bird imagery (the peacock is lovely), and 3D wooden necklaces that look like they’re scenes from fairytales.
The staff at Block Party are always so friendly and knowledgable about the artists and products they carry. We were even offered snacks and drinks on our visit last week. That’s my idea of Christmas shopping!
Even when I’m just window shopping, I love coming to Block Party. They add new items all the time and I know it’ll be a adventure exploring them. Make sure you check in, there’s a discount for the South 4^th St location!

I have always loved stopping into this boutique on So Fo, and recently had the opportunity to join for a Unilocal Elite event here. Everything about this place is top notch. The products are mostly local (if not regional) and high quality crafts that people made with care. The prices are very reasonable and the way she has set up the store is darling. I love that she has a little bit of everything here! One of my new favorite places to buy gifts as well as goodies for myself! ;)
Mary is always wearing a smile and willing to chat and help with whatever you may need. She is a super talented artist as well… which speaks to why she has brought such an awesome spot to Louisville. Yay for Block Party and for the event that she graciously allowed to go down in her store! :)

I attended a Unilocal Elite event tonight at the Block Party. The owner was very pleasant, and helpful. All of the speakers’ referred to her as a fighting influence among their art making progress. There was beautiful detailed photographs near the register, local soaps and drink-​named lip-​gloss nearby as well. I explored the cute dresses at the back of the store, but I didn’t know if they’d fit my (well hour-​glassish frame) – very cute dresses tho. I did enjoy the wire jewlery by the door, and there were some amazing balloon and umbrella prints to the other side of the door. I actually did go ahead and purchase one of the artists’ prints, as a house-​warming gift to myself. Price wasn’t too bad, little more than I’d intended, but worth it. There were some clever shirts with local KY (derby pride) things in the back of the store as well.
I’d go back, but maybe after payday, as I’m bound to find more gifts or artwork there. The speakers from the soap, ceramics, and mask-​making artists were splendid, as well. I thrive at the chance to hear such, artists able to embrace their passions as their livelihood. It’s great.

This is such a great place to find gifts for family and friends — and for yourself! They have a really eclectic, fun mix of items that allows you to find something for everyone. In one afternoon stop, our group picked up incredible soap, earrings featuring rappers and a print. The print was something I just couldn’t walk out of the store without. Everything is reasonably priced. This is a new favorite!

I stumbled into this store after the Unilocal Food Truck event and fell head over heels! I purchased some Mint Julep Bath Bombs that I tried out last night. Holy Moly! They are incredible.
I also purchased some very well received gifts. (Bourbon spices and a screen print)
It should be mentioned that my friend bought a set of East vs. West Biggie and TuPac earrings… perfection.
I can say for certain that I will be back. I really want one of the celeb mug shot mugs. Robert Downey Jr or Bruno Mars?

Every time I go into Block Party, I find trinkets and do-​dads that I didn’t know I wanted but that I discover I need. This store is like if Etsy and Pinterest had a beautiful baby … with perhaps some glitter and ribbons attached to it … and that always smells great.
You can’t help but get sucked into checking everything out. Your eyes just hop from table to table, item to item.
I love the paintings, bath products and jewelry especially. (Lindsay Lou Jewelry is my absolute favorite!)
But there are also items babies, older kids, men, parents — pretty much if you have to buy a gift for somebody and can’t find it there … then they probably don’t deserve a gift in the first place.
Most, if not all, of the artists live and work in the Louisville area, so not only are you helping out a local store but a local artisan as well.
And you can find some other local institutions represented, like Cellar Door Chocolates and Bourbon Barrel Foods.
Block Party is also great if you’re looking for a Louisville-​centric gift. There are outlines of the state of Kentucky and fleur de lis a-​plenty.
Plus, there are so many items at affordable prices.
This is just a great, all-​around spot to find something special for you or someone you care about.

I absolutely love Block Party Boutique! I go there often. But yesterday was the first time i bought something. After walking past and seeing a lovely lady out front displaying her awesome handmade jewelry… i just couldn’t resist. I purchased a pair of earrings for 15% off and some lotion, a ring and 3 buttons. I will definitely be returning to Block Party for their awesome selection of items. Block Party is one of my favorite places in Louisville. Since everything is handmade, the selection is varied and often changing. The gallery space hosts a new exhibition monthly that’s usually kicked off by a great First Friday party. There’s awesome stuff in every price range and you can find something for anyone on your gift list (don’t forget to treat yourself), including pets. In one trip I bought a mini painting, local vegan jerky, hand screened t-​shirt, ring for my SO, chocolate, shaving soap, and even a vintage Cars LP.
Mary, the owner, is amazingly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about Block Party’s products and artists. If you’re especially lucky, you’ll walk in on a day she’s brought her adorable little pug Ethel in to help manage the store. It’s the perfect place for out-​of-​towners to get a taste of local artists and crafters and for Louisvillians to support their friends and neighbors. Be sure to check out the rest of S. 4^th as a number of new shops, bars, restaurants, concert venues, and hotels have opened up in the past few years.

This shop is amazing! It’s definitely one of my favorites in the city. I go in every chance I get. It’s a great place to get stuff for yourself or gifts for others. They have amazing jewelry, clothing, cards, food items, candles, art, pet items, baby items, hair accessories, and the list goes on and on. Also, sometimes the owner, Mary, brings in her adorable pug, Ethel.

I love Block Party! Their classes are fantastic and the teachers are knowledgeable. The products that the vendors sell changes frequently. It’s the perfect place to go to buy that unique gift for the special person in your life! And like an earlier comment says, it’s not full of horses and Fleur-​de-​leis!

I love Block Party! The shop is full of unique items from local artists including jewelry, candles, records, clothes, artwork, purses, and tons more. The wide range to choose from makes finding the perfect gift so easy! Not to mention the girls in the shop are friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend stopping in and checking it out.

Block Party Handmade Boutique is a fantastic shopping destination experience. It’s between the Seelbach and Brown hotels — the one with the 3-​D «block» sign above the store. Clever. The sparkly handmade jewelry, art and bling is — so vogue. Block Party is the epitome of a glamorous field trip with eye candy at every display. Great place for quick shopping at lunch or if you are at a convention to get a little bit o’ handmade Kentucky!!! The background music is swwweeeeet…

Block Party!!! I always loved those growing up. Well, this one is a bit different than we had, but it is just as good, if not better.
This store is a co-​op in the new «SoFo» district on South Fourth Street, just south of Fourth Street Live. The staff is always super friendly when you walk in (I’ve already been on multiple locations, including once in their first week open.). They’re not annoying, but they will offer you information on some of the artists. Basically, each of the artists in the store has their own area they set up on their own. Those artists then work there for a a number of hours each week. There are a variety of items (handmade, duh) available for sale. From food (SO. TEMPTING. If you want a baby splurge, buy a caramel or two.) to jewelry to paintings to music to photography to dog collars to baskets to sculptures to cards to clothes to numerous things I cannot remember right now… I’ve bought something every time I have been! They also have workshops with the artists available (There’s a calendar online if you want to check it out.) if you want to make your own handmade awesomeness.
Since it is all handmade, the stock seems to rotate somewhat, which makes each visit exciting and gives you the opportunity to buy new things. My sister’s birthday present in April and my mom’s Mother’s Day gift in May both came from Block Party, and I foresee many future gifts coming from this amazing new store!!!

If you’re local, think Butchertown Market meets Flea Off Market but in a much smaller space. It’s a collective store that operates on a «micro rental space agreement» meaning that there’s a pretty wide variety of nicknacks. And I’m not sure what hoops the owner requires each local artist to jump through, but the art is for the most part good.
I am usually out of my element in boutique stores and places that sell «gifts». The salespeople always can sense this too, which makes it that much worse. But I saw three things to like here:
1. It’s not all useless crap with pictures of horses and fleur-​de-​lis. I’m all for civic pride, and I know the bourbon and horses are bread & butter around here, but it’s nice to see a little more cultural depth. I especially like the music listening station that only has CDs from local bands. Put another way, it’s very giftsy but you won’t find any of this stuff selling at the airport.
2. Edible stuff. Two chocolate sellers and Paleta Pop Culture. I’m definitely getting some popsicles here this summer. Today I bought some wine jelly that was not only Kentucky Proud but it was made somewhere between the beltways.
3. The store also has a shared studio space and an arts and crafts workshop where they plan to teach jewelry making, painting, crocheting, basketmaking, etc. I hope this is as cool as it sounds.
Anyway, our newly anointed «South Fourth District» (which locals might otherwise recognize as the downtown wig district) has seen an infusion of new stores this Spring, most of which are strategically designed to target tourist dollars, given the close proximity to the Brown and Seelbach hotels. This is city revitalization on the cheap, meaning that the city hasn’t pulled in national retailers to do the job. All the more reason to be excited that some locals are clearly putting thought and effort into the task, since that would do wonders for downtown and the city.
