History
Established in 1954.
The Credit Union was established as Classroom Teachers Federal Credit Union by a small group of Jefferson County Public School teachers, with the support of Superintendent Richard Van Hoose. The credit union provided a much-needed alternative to commercial banks who were unwilling or uninterested in serving the financial needs of teachers who were predominantly female. This was especially true when these teachers sought auto loans or mortgages. The Credit Union made its first «office» in a small broom closet under a stairwell at Seneca High School but quickly grew. Bullitt County and other school systems were eager to join and the number of member groups swelled to over 30. In 1994 the University of Louisville Student & Alumni Credit Union was in need of help and merged with the larger and more stable Classroom Teachers FCU. In 2005, due in large part to the merger, the name was changed to Class Act FCU. Today the Credit Union has 19,000 members and $ 175 million in assets.
