Feels weird to write a review on a church, but I know that when we were looking, it would have been helpful to get some opinions, so here it goes… We went on 3 different Sundays and enjoyed the speaker every time. It’s a more«formal» church. It seems«Sunday Best» is donned here and that’s totally cool. I did wish I knew that before week one when I had my red skinny jeans on. :) Their parking situation isn’t great. We live only a few blocks away and apparently walking a few blocks is the norm, so that worked out well for us. Doctrinally, right on. Preaching is exegetical and they were heading through the book of Luke. They have many elders and they have«Staff» elders. The staff elder for preaching is Dr. Schreiner. He’s also a professor at Southern, so you get an education, for sure. Worship is old school. There was a man in front who was more like the choir conductor than a worship leader. They sung hymns, from what I recall. I didn’t grow up in the church, so I didn’t know them, but enjoyed listening to the voices echo through the building. The chapel is lovely but not ornate. There were sign ups for mid-week community groups. I don’t know if they’re new or if they were on hiatus during summer. They also have adult Sunday school. Overall, the reason we don’t attend is simply that it felt more formal than what we we’re looking for. The church is large and because there weren’t mid-week groups, we felt pretty disconnected. There are LOTS of young families though, and I’m pretty sure if we had kids we would have met more people. You can check out the website to get an idea of the theology and listen to sermons. Good luck in your search!
