PRO TIPS: Get there early, sign your name, and go up and down Bardstown since the wait will be at least 1 – 2 hours, if not more. Or bring a book.
The best haircut I’ve ever had. By far. The guy understood what I wanted with three questions and didn’t trouble me about it. He went to work on my mop and did an incredibly detailed and precise job. I believe his name was Brandon.
The place is immaculate and marvelously decorated. The barbers are meticulous and take their time to do it right, which is why you have to wait a bit. However, the clientele they seem to attract are the kind of people who would buy «Dude Wipes.» None of the customers talk or even look at each other and sometimes it can be pretty awkward in there. Like I said, write your name in, leave, then come back every 30 minutes or so.
The services are quite possibly the best price point in the entire region (yes, including everything across the river) and their products they sell are also very well priced and are incredibly nice.
Highly, highly, highly recommend. Just be cognizant of the wait time.

I love this place. Every single haircut I have ever received from Chop Shop I have been very happy with. I’ve gone about 20 – 30 times now and yes the lines can be long but it is worth the wait. great atmosphere and friendly service. Make sure you pet Dice (the little shop dog) probably one of the coolest dogs I know.

Ok, this is totally a mens barber shop. I went along with my fiancé to get his haircut, it was his first time there. Walked in and I was the ONLY woman, and it was extremely awkward. There was about 12 people ahead of us, so the wait was a little lengthy, but not terrible. Troy did my mans haircut, and ladies, I gotta tell you… He did an AMAZING cut on my man! His hair has never looked better. If you want your man to be hot as hell, SEND HIM HERE! If there’s a wait, who cares? It’s so worth it. Seriously, GO SEE TROY! Your man will come home and you’ll be all «grrrrrrrr». Oh! And they have an adorable dog that wears a sweatshirt! (Added bonus!)

Quite simply, the BEST barber shop in Louisville. Amazing atmosphere is staffed with 5 – 6 barbers who are alll capable of providing a great cut. The shop has a mix of retro and modern design with diverse vinyl and art adorning the walls. You will have to wait upon arrival but the service, cut and environment more than make up for any inconvenience of time.

Great atmosphere here. They have a nice group of barbers who ask lots of questions and make sure you’re getting what you asked for. I saw they added credit cards as an option to pay, which is great, because that would be my only complaint.

There’s not much to say except that they give the best haircuts in the City. Get there early as the place is popular. If you want to be absolutely wowed, check out their other services.

Just moved to town and heard that Derby City Chop Shop was the place to go for a cut. So I went. As a guy that cuts hair myself I like seeing a variety of shops and what they offer.
Dakota gave me what I call my usual. A high and tight fade from 0 – 2 with a clean Gentlemen’s part and comb over.
His skills were what I would expect from an establishment such as this. Above average.
I waited about 15 minutes, which I hear was very lucky as the wait can be much longer.
The sell some great products too, Layrite being my go to for many years. They also have Baxter, which is a higher end mens product.
I will be back for sure.

Excellent place to get a haircut. Straight razor shaves! Adam is excellent! I will admit the wait is long, but very much worth it. This places takes awhile because these guys are perfectionist with cutting your hair. I have never had a bad haircut here. These guys know how to handle dudes and their hair needs.

I’ve really liked every haircut I’ve gotten here but I haven’t liked having to wait more than 30 minutes for them. I really like the atmosphere, the location, all the barbers, and the products, but I just don’t have the time to wait for 30 minutes each time I go to the chop shop. I’ve even tried to go at odd times (like Monday morning before lunch, Tuesday afternoon around 2:30) when I think no one else would be there but there’s always a wait… great for them, not so great for their customers. It’s a shame. Even though I really like it here I’m going to have to start going somewhere else.

An awesome haircut experience. Guys are professional but keep it fun without coming on to strong with the atmosphere, which is great: as someone who’s used to the ladies-​friendly discount salons, it lets you know that they are invested in looking good!
Haircut: AWESOME cut from Nick. I only had to provide minimal input (uh, fit my face? Make it good and so it doesn’t frizz on me?): Nick did the rest, and made it look easy. If you’re like me and you’ve been going to Fantastic Sams or whatever and you’re used to going in and having some surly lady give you a boy cut, the «reveal» can be a little shocking! You walk out of the place feeling ten feet tall and confident, AND FOR $ 17 bucks? RUFKM? That is pretty close to what you’ll pay at a chain salon.
Best deal for your hair if you’re a guy hands down in a non dipshit environment. Highly recommended!

The cuts are worth the wait. Just be careful to watch the «No stopping» signs. Your car WILL indeed get ticketed. So be on the lookout. Otherwise so so worth it to have any one of these awesome barbers make you guys handsome. My son won’t go anywhere else.

This is the best barbershop, great environment, the staff is really professional, they are committed to the job! Highly recommended this is my new place, don’t go anywhere else don’t waist your time when you can get a great service and final product!

I’m somewhere between two and three stars on Derby City Chop Shop, but decided to round up here, mostly because I like the people. That said, I doubt I’ll be back.
The atmosphere is nice and the music is usually good (last time I was here, they played the Minutemen). You really want to like this place as soon as you step inside. But those things are necessary given the unbelievable wait times; if the atmosphere was crap, nobody would tolerate them.
I’ve gone to Derby City Chop Shop half a dozen times for a haircut, and have actually gotten a haircut four times. The other two times the wait was so unbelievable (ninety minutes in one instance and two hours in another) that I got up and left.
One of the four haircuts I got was excellent; two were good (though my wife, who used to cut hair, did have to clean them up a little); one was sub-​Supercuts. I assume the poor haircut was an anomaly — everyone has off days, and the person who did the terrible cut was the same one who did the excellent cut — that said, I simply don’t think it’s worth the wait.
I’d rather pay twice as much for a haircut, be able to make an appointment, and be in and out of a place in a reasonable amount of time (walk-​ins only here).
If you want your haircut experience to take two and a half to three hours (wait, plus actual haircut), if the charm of a place, its good tunes, and its cute little dog (and the dog is cute) are more important than going someplace, getting what you came for, and leaving again, then Derby City Chop Shop is worth going to.
If you’ve got a book you wanna read and you’d like a place to do it, and also get your haircut eventually, Derby City Chop Shop is worth going to.
If you’ve got a backlog of crossword puzzles you want to get to and you’re really awful at crossword puzzles, Derby City Chop Shop is worth going to.
But if you just wanna go get a haircut and get on with your day, maybe pick somewhere else. If you’re in the right mindset going in, it can be a good experience; if you’re not, and I think I mostly am not, then it’s a torturous wait for a decent haircut, and not quite worth it.

The manliest barber shop in the history of manliness. DCCS is in the heard of the Highlands, the eclectic Mecca of Louisville and all things local. This small storefront isn’t flashy, and to be honest, I’ve stumbled by here in a drunken stupor while bar hopping for two years before I ever noticed this place. It’s a first come, first serve basis with a sign in sheet, and a place to write down your preferred barber. Frankly, they’re all phenomenal barbers and you can’t go wrong with whoever delivers the fresh new cut. There’s awesome rock music playing throughout, and the coolest shop dog that’ll run around and play fetch with the patrons while they wait. The vintage chandelier in the middle of the shop, the old barber chairs, and the old school style makes you feel like you’ve stepped into an exclusive bar for rock stars. The attention to detail these gentlemen put into a haircut is like nothing I’ve seen before. Every hair on your manly lion’s mane (or balding combover) will be attended to.
Walk in looking like a hobo, you’ll leave looking like a thoroughbred stud horse.
$ 17 for a cut, and don’t forget to tip well. You won’t get a better men’s cut anywhere in the region.

Ok … So there’s two things you need to know about this place.
1). You will wait a long time for a hair cut !
2) It’ll be worth it !!
These guys def know how to cut hair and make you look good. Yes the wait is long but there’s good reason why. These guys do their best to make sure your cut is sharp and you’re looking good. Whether your style is slicked back, shaved or shaggy these guys know what to do.
I’ve been coming here since they’ve opened and I’ve been pretty loyal to them a few weeks ago I went to another big name chain barber shop because I just didn’t want to wait in line again. I soon realized why I wait and get my hair cut here. The person zipped me through and paid no attention to the detail. After a few time getting back in the chair I left unhappy and went straight to DCCC to get it fixed. I’ll never go another place again.
If you want to look good and walk out knowing they did the job right along with a full experience of the old school barber shop come here
Tip: to avoid the wait get here early and avoid the week late evenings. If you can make it the first thing you do in the morning.

Derby City Chop Shop has given me the best haircuts I’ve ever had. Their barbers are all immensely talented and can handle just about any men’s style you can think of, as well as beard/​mustache trims & shoe shines. You’ll always look sharp after a trip here. Tons of celebrities come here to get their hurr did before a big show in Louisville, but just about anyone can afford a $ 17 cut (plus tip). I’ve been coming here for five years and wouldn’t consider anywhere else even for a second.
PRO TIP: its first-​come, first-​serve so walk in and sign the book on a weekday morning around 10am to avoid long waits. If you do end up waiting, just know it’s worth it.

I waited until I’d been there three times before posting this review because I knew it would be less than glowing, and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t hitting them at bad times.
The good: A basic haircut for a relatively good price, $ 23 not including the tip.
The bad, as other people have noted: the incredibly long wait time. On my third visit, I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes. I’m not exaggerating; I timed it. I blame myself for not giving up and going somewhere else, but still: crazy.
When you strip away the hipster décor, Derby City is a barber shop, giving the sort of cuts you could get at virtually any other place. But if you like the location and the vibe, it might have much more appeal than it does for me.

At this point, my thought is WHERE ELSE would you wanna go for a haircut?!
Derby City Chop Shop does a fantastic job of ensuring the haircut that you want. All the barbers are great at asking questions and helping me explain the style I am going for. The place has a great atmosphere and camaraderie amongst the barbers makes it all the more fun.
I have read a lot about the long waits and I agree, it tough to fit into the schedule. However, the waits are long because they make sure they give a great haircut and I respect them for that. Plus, the fact that there is always a wait is a good sign right?

We went here for the first time today. My teen boys got their hair cut and my husband got his hair cut and his beard trimmed. I typically cut their hair, because most hair cut places cannot cut their hair up to my standards.
Well Derby City Chop Shop did a beyond amazing job. Even though it was busy, we were in and out in just over an hour.
Bonus points for the adorable dog in the waiting area, watching her run around kept my kids buy while waiting.
