My wife and I just started going to this Genghis Grill in the last several months. The food is enjoyable, especially the option to use cabbage as the protein for a healthy alternative. What’s particularly notable in this review is the service staff. Very friendly and personable. They open the front door for us, cheerfully serve and interact as though you are special. Kudos.

So while on travel for work, my new friends and I went eat dinner here. I had been to something similar YEARS ago. We were seated quickly and had a great server. She explained to us the sizes and how to pile on the food. We all ordered regular size bowls. And went to town stacking the meats and veggies in the bowl and over flow tray. There are some receipe cards to help you master the overwhelming options. Don’t be shy in how much you put in the silver prep bowl. I loaded up on sirloin and shrimp followed by cabbage, green onion, pineapple, spices, other veggies. You then pick a sauce or two or four. And a starch-noodles, rice, cabbage, and some other options. Last you can have them add as many eggs to scramble in as you like. After about 6 minutes you meal is delivered to your table. It is piping hot and yummy. I will be trying the one back home soon.

This is my favorite casual restaurant in Louisville! While I’ve had subpar service on a few occasions it’s still worth coming back because their food is great, they take reservations and it’s never too packed so I’ve never had to wait for a table. Also so close to my favorite movie theater, Tinseltown!

My wife and I have given this place many opportunities… it just comes up a little short. Not a bad experience but it could be a lot better. Service is just ok and my food has been undercooked on more than one occasion. I probably will not be back.

How good is Genghis? Good enough we drove 1 ½ hours away to get to one! Short story is: My boyfriend LOVES Genghis. He lived near one in Iowa when he went to College. To this day it is his«mecca» of deliciousness. When he found out we moved with in an hour and half of one, with in a week of moving, we of course took the trip. I had never been to a Genghis. I had only been to a place near us in NW Indiana that always left me with a terrible case of the«NEVERAGAINS» every time we had food there, but I will say this… GENGHISISWORTHTHISDRIVE!!! I loved LOVED, LOVED their seafood selection! They had a huge selection of meats, veggies, and sauces. Basically you choose what you want, the cooks cook it, but it’s all pretty high quality stuff. How do I know? Because it tastes very good, like… VERYGOOD. It was worth the drive, and my boyfriend was one happy camper. The staff came by and gave us a free ice cream for driving an hour and half to get there =) Thanks folks! We highly recommend the Nutella icecream wonton thing they have. MAN… Super good. Ladies, I would suggest getting the medium size. Fellas, you will likely want to get the large. Also their teas are good. We did not drink booze, but it is available. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food. We will be back! Fun day trip for some fun food.

Great place to eat. I love the food. It is always fresh with a lot of options. I usually get cabbage instead of rice or noodles for a healthier option. I don’t have to feel guilty for eating out here.

I would say that they are comparable to BD’a Mongolian Grill. My only complaint is that I wish they would mix the sauces for you(I mess mine up every time). My sauce also didn’t cover any of my rice, which would have made it taste better. Otherwise, there is a lot of food(in a regular bowl) and a lot of choices(fresh meat and veggies).

I am writing this review in comparison to BD’s Mongolian Grill. Genghis is exactly the same concept, but the experience didn’t seem to work as well. Not having the all you can eat concept really didn’t work. I say that because the silver tin that they provide to you for the regular size bowl is extremely small to fit all of your meat and vegetables in. The sauce container was also way too small for the amount of food that you are putting into your bowl. I had to visit the sauce station multiple times just so that I had enough sauce for my meal. The food itself wasn’t bad, but I feel that the quality wasn’t as good as BD’s. The restaurant was also setup very strange. The station to pick up your meat and vegetables seems that it could get very long if the restaurant was busy. All in all, I would say don’t go to Genghis as my food wasn’t bad by any means, however, the experience is much better at BD’s.

Walked into a very uncomfortable dinging experience. Very disappointed with food quality and atmosphere. The tin bowls combined with the red trays made the casual dinner restaurant feel like we were eating at a dining hall cafeteria. The raw protein you could choose from for stir fry looked incredibly unappetizing and unsafe to eat, especially the chicken it was sitting in a pool of water as if it was still thawing. Good try at competing with Mongolian Grill, but overall very unsuccessful.

First time here and I like the concept. You get to pick from the bar to build you stir fry, I got the medium size bowl and was more than enough food. The service was excellent as was the food. You just have to strategically place it in your bowl to get the biggest bang for your buck!

I really like the build-your-bowl concept. If the food doesn’t taste good, it’s probably your fault. I got the large bowl and I couldn’t finish it – I’ll get the medium next time. Like one of the other reviewers mentioned, I think it’s kind of lame that they have servers here instead of making it a fast food restaurant. Also, they charge more for dinner for the same size bowls. Update(10÷28÷15): They added squid and scallops to their selection. Awesome. I’d add another half-star if I could.

I like this place but can not give it more than 3 stars. The staff has always be very nice and prompt in their services. They have a good selection at their items bar and have decent appetizers. They also have $ 2 bottles going on and thats kind of nice. With that said i agree with a previous poster… i like bds better.

Dirty. Went there on a Sunday night and they had a lot of empty tables. Told us we would have a 20 minute wait. We left!!!

It’s OK. BD’s is a better choice. I’ve been to Genghis grills in other states, and they were much better. I love Asian food, and noodles make it even better. However, I think I will skip this Genghis Grill in lieu of other choices.

BD’s was much better. First, not very clean, food in benches, trash on floor, restrooms not very clean either. They point to these big bowls and then bring you a tiny steel bowl to fill. Then bring you the big bowl with over half of it being rice or noodles. Food was okay, but the value wasn’t there. Oh, and they don’t have eggrolls. But the service was nice.

I’m thankful to our friend who told us about this place. I had passed this place several times and the outside appearance of this place turned me off so I had never actually tried it. I had no idea what this place was about but now that I’ve tried it– I love the concept. You go in, choose from three size bowls and then proceed to fill up that bowl with whatever protein you like, vegetables, spices, sauces, and then take it to the grill where you can ask them to add noodles, white rice, fried rice, or eggs. The stir-fry is just amazing and with some many different choices mentioned above I’m always looking to make my bowl taste different that the previous time. The place is bigger than the outside looks and there even is a full bar. The bar doesn’t fit the theme of the restaurant but I’m sure many are grateful it’s there. I go for the food though.

The food is pretty good. I usually wing it and create my own flavor combo instead of following a recipe but so far I haven’t screwed it up. I wish they had an all-u-can-eat option just in case I mess one up, but so far I haven’t left hungry.

tiny portion. The bowl is so tiny that I can hardly fill a complete ingredients in it! For the food quality and the price they charge, I’d go somewhere else.
