Everything that preceded me actually trying my food led to the expectation of a 2* review: the kid behind the counter wasn’t the most welcoming, I was twice given misinformation about the sandwich I’d ordered, and ordering a baguette to-go turned out to be unnecessarily complicated. With all that said, my simple roast beef melt($ 8 including soup and chips) turned out to be one of the tastiest sandwiches I’ve ordered anywhere in town. Not sure exactly what made it work, but it worked. Also, the guy who prepared and served the meal was quite friendly, and the spacious dining area was quite comfortable; in spite of there being no wifi I ended up hanging out there and working for a couple of hours. So it’s a bit of a mixed bag here, but I’ll be back to try other items on the menu.

Girl behind the counter was RUdE! Not sure why she works in customer service and deals with the public? I def felt like I was inconveniencing her for ordering a cookie. She was very annoyed when I asked her to repeat the chip options that came with my sandwich. I think she was hungover or something? Sorry for ordering and asking questions about the menu! Bagel was good, sandwich on the inside wasn’t half bad… The atmosphere and service will not bring me back in. I’ll def take my service someplace else vs dealing with buttholes.

Not too bad. Had a cannoli and it was pretty bland. They girl behind the counter was a bit unfriendly. My husband enjoyed his cinnamon roll though. Fair pricing as well.

Sent in pics to order an r2d2 cake for my son. They did a great job. Cake looked amazing and it was moist and delicious. And perfect ratio of cake to icing.

I was really impressed with the cupcake cake and cake that I ordered from Heitzman on short notice. I showed them a picture of one of Disney’s Inside Out characters, and they were able to make a cute cupcake cake featuring the«Sadness» character. Although it was a simple yellow cake, it was moist and very good tasting. Additionally, I brought in an Inside Out edible cake overlay that I purchased from an online source(Heitzman doesn’t sell this.), and they were happy to use it on a ¼ sheet cake and use the colors that I liked, along with decorating the sides of the take to match the movie theme. As far as cakes/cupcakes go, 5 stars! The reason that I gave it 4 stars is because I felt like the girl who was at the cash register and taking my order seemed exhausted, slightly annoyed, frustrated with all of my questions about cupcake and cake pricing. I just was made to feel that I should have known how much a cupcake costs, how many I would need to make this type of cupcake cake and where the up-charges were. I order cakes about 1−2x a year, so I am clueless on that… just would have liked a little more of a recommendation based on some of my questions instead of me individually asking, «How much is a dozen cupcakes? Does the cake need to be 2 dozen or a certain number, etc?»(note that this girl was working the 3x I visited the bakery.) …It was a little like pulling teeth. BUT… all in all, I would go there again in a heartbeat and recommend them to others who have ideas outside of the box.

This is the best bakery in Louisville! Whether you are going to pick up donuts for the office, cookies for an afternoon snack, or a cake, you will be pleased with the quality and taste of anything you try!

I just decided this AM to get some donuts for my team as a treat. I called up at 9:30am asking if they could accommodate an 8 dozen order«right now» and they said«we can do it!» They gave me a piece of jam cake as a sample while they carried donuts to the car for me. Everyone loved the donuts and selection and these are quality donuts, not greasy at all! We use them for all our all employee meetings and people love the donuts and cookies, much more than cakes from other places. I also use Heitzman’s for Thanksgiving and have to say, they have changed my life… I now enjoy Thanksgiving with serving food my family LOVES while I have NO time cooking! Pick it up Thanksgiving at noon HOT with Turkey already cut and ready to serve. It is delicious, stress-free and very affordable… Thanks Heitzman’s!

The girl behind the counter said they make bread, but it is special order and she couldn’t tell me what kinds of bread they make. They claim to be a German bakery, but only had one type of German dessert there. Everything else I could have purchased at DD.

I ordered 3 dozen cupcakes(strawberry and Italian cream) this weekend for a shower, and I was very disappointed. They were on the dry side and lacked in flavor. Even the icing(buttercream) was lacking — too sweet and«plastic» tasting. I ordered the week of because I had planned to make my own, and I honestly wish I had. Even a doctored up box mix would have been more flavorful and moist. Sorry.

I used Heitzman to cater my wedding on 3÷28÷15 and one thing everyone said about the wedding is the food was fantastic! That is not the only reason I am giving them 5 stars though. Marguerite was a pleasure to work with from the start. Meeting her at a wedding show got me very interested in her cakes so we definitely wanted her to create our wedding cake. But after meeting with her and seeing the menu, and then tasting the food, we decided pretty fast we wanted Heitzman to cater as well. Everything went perfectly. The staff was at the venue and made sure everyone was served. They were friendly and polite and stayed until the very end and helped clean up. It was the best service I could have asked for. They went above and beyond my expectations. I met them at a wedding show, but now I plan on stopping in more often just for some of the food and treats that they offer. Highly recommend them to anyone who asks!

Woke up this morning craving doughnuts. Not dunkin, not Krispy, I wanted fresh. This place apparently bakes them fresh daily, as well as an assortment of other baked goods. We hopped out of bed within 5 minutes & were en route. The place smelled of delicious treats & they had a decent selection of doughnuts. We picked our dozen from the very helpful young man behind the counter & were on our way home to doughnut heaven. I was pleased with my chocolate covered cream filled long john. However, I was not happy with anything else. The dough tasted way too greasy for my liking. I suppose the cream filling in the previous doughnut over powered that greasy taste. I tried another one, thinking maybe it was just that doughnut(I had high hopes for being a fatty this morning). Same thing. Probably won’t be going back for the doughnuts. Everything else looked pretty tasty, though… & the service was delightful.

I just came to the place willing to pay whatever it cost to get a nice costume cake. The lady at the front cashier was the rudest person I’ve ever met specially in a place supposed to be a service oriented and for special occasions. It takes a lot to get me to sit an write a bad review but this experience just ruined my day and I haven’t even tried the cake!

10 years ago Heitzman’s was delicious. Now, not so much, specifically the Dixie Highway location. You can tell they do not make their own buttercreams and their cakes come from a mix, not from scratch, the same goes for their doughnut and pastry fillings. It’s all very mediocre. The only thing really worth getting there anymore are the doughnuts and the bourbon fruit cake around the holidays. I will also say, often times I’ve been greeted with unfriendly service at the Dixie and Eastern Parkway locations. Because this place is a longtime, local place, i’ve given it many tries, hoping it would be better. Nope, it never is. You’re a bakery! I stopped in to use a groupon I bought. Nothing is priced, and the staff was rude and unhelpful when I asked for suggestions. The goods aren’t priced either. So for someone who isn’t familiar with the place you have to ask. Maybe I went on a bad day. Once was too much for me. My family didn’ t care for the cookies and danishes, they were tossed. That speaks volumes.

Our office has ordered waaay too many cakes from this place. They are so gross. I love desserts! I am not even picky on what I want… except that it must be good & Heitzman’s is just NOTGOOD. Icing is too sweet. Cake is dry & blah flavor. Priced too high. Some desserts or food there may be ok here, but not anything I’ve had to date. Sorry!

There’s nothing that beats fresh desserts. This place got ‘em. It’s hard to find good bakeries. I’ve been here a couple of times and look forward to going back again. they have every dessert you want and I hear their made-to-order cakes are great. When I met my wife we frequented this quaint bakery/coffee shop in England which had the most glorious carrot cake. It’s a cake that’s very hard to pull off. You can easily make it too sweet, too dry, to moist, too complex… it’s the bane of many bakers. The carrot cake here is the closest I’ve found to that perfect slice in England. So this place gets 5 stars. They also serve lunch and coffee and have wifi so I’m sure it’ll become another study spot for me soon.

Stopped on the way home from driving around on a beautiful day to load up on some sweets. Heitzman has a huge variety of delicious home baked goods. A doz. assorted danish and doughnuts $ 12.50. If you get all one kind it’s $ 11.95 a doz. Three assorted fresh baked muffins $ 5.25. A few extra assorted doughnuts(my favorite –vanilla custard filled chocolate long john) $ 1.00 each. It’s probably a good thing that they are located so far away from where I live. I would have to stop in at least once a week.
