Hi-Five Doughnuts

Such a unique place! They are always coming up with new yummy flavor combinations for their donuts that most people would never think of! I had to unfollow them on social media because I would salivate every time I would look at one of their new donut concoctions.
I tried to chase the food truck down all last summer and always seemed to find them once they had sold out for the night. I finally got a chance to try their donuts at the Forecastle Music Festival.
I split with a friend a peanut butter glazed donut with peanut putter capn crunch pieces and a classic chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles. I was worried that the actual donuts were going to be flat tasting but was pleasantly surprised by how thick it actually was! The toppings at Hi-​Five are obviously the stars but they are not just coverups for their actual donuts which proved to be above average.
Can’t wait to try more of the crazy flavor combinations they come up with next!

I finally tracked down Hi-​Five doughnuts while they were parked at the Flea Off Market. I was very excited to try them after drooling over their constant pics in my Instagram feed.
I ordered a chocolate glazed doughnut with rainbow sprinkles (4.00). I was given a rather large, thick doughnut with fresh, drippy glaze and a splendor of sprinkles. Upon first bite, it was pretty messy, but I really enjoyed the chocolate glaze that they used and the texture that the different sized sprinkles brought on. Unfortunately, there were no napkins available or offered so there was some finger licking going on… The doughnut was the most dense doughnut I’ve ever tried. I prefer mine a bit more airy/​light.
They offer a lot of different glazes like bourbon, caramel and chocolate, and tasty toppings, like the usual bacon, sprinkles and cereal, and some more uncommon offerings like fresh fruit, toasted nuts and roasted coconut. They even have doughnut holes, which I think is nice to have as an option.
Overall, I feel that their doughnuts are extremely pricey, 4.00 for one (with a glaze and two toppings) will get you four fresh chocolate glazed doughnuts with sprinkles at Dunkin’ Doughnuts or two fresh donuts at several local bakeries in my town. I’m also not a fan of the density of the doughnuts. However, the girls are friendly and they do a lot for our community, such as donating day old doughnuts and visiting senior citizen care facilities to volunteer. I don’t see myself stopping for another purchase anytime soon, but they’re worth checking out if you’re a food truck or doughnut enthusiast. I will say this, these doughnuts make for a pretty picture!

It’s true. If you don’t love hi-​five donuts you hate America. These are the best donuts you’ll find in the entire state. Née, the entire Nation. Heck, maybe even the entire world. Do yourself a favor and order them all. Also, Leslie and Annie are amazing (and adorable).

I’m truly not a donut fan (no offense), so I bought it for my daughter, but she will usually share it with me. She ordered bacon glaze with chocolate minis toppings. I was happily surprised. The glaze did not leave a waxy aftertaste, the dough had umph to it, and the glaze was not overly sweet (for glaze standards). The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because I’m not a donut fan, although the bacon aspect offset it just fine. Again, sorry no pic. The camera lost out to the stomach.

Doughnuts are one of my all time favorite foods. So, I was quite excited to come across Hi-​Five Doughnut Truck at Flea.
The truck sells fresh doughnuts with a custom glaze and topping. There are a lot of choices which include options like caramel, bacon, and various breakfast cereals. I tried the peanut butter glaze and Reeses.
The doughnut was piping hot and the glaze was delicious. I was pleased to find that it was a true glaze and not just melted peanut butter. However, I was a little disappointed in the actual doughnut. It seems like they were trying for a yeast-​like doughnut (as opposed to a cake doughnut) but it was really underproofed. It had great flavor and lots of potential but the texture was just terribly dense for a doughnut. Hopefully this was just a single batch issue and the next time will be a 5 star experience.

First tried their donuts at the Flea Off Market and fell in love at first bite. They offer a huge selection of creative and delicious donuts it’s honestly hard to decide. If you see the truck take the time to grab one, you won’t regret it.

I ordered a doughnut with Bourbon Glaze, Candied Pecans and Mini Chips plus a doughnut with Bourbon Glaze and Bacon… YUMMY! The staff was pleasant as well.

Hi-​five doughnuts is simply one of the best food truck destinations in Louisville. The sweet and delicious creations made by these wonderful people will rock your world !
It’s very simple you pick a glaze chocolate, cinnamon, bourbon, bacon and whatever other crazy thing they’ve cooked up. Then you pick a topping ranging from bacon to breakfast cereal to classics like nuts and sprinkles even candy !! Next comes the easy past. Bite into the heavenly bliss and sit back and enjoy the flavors.
The down side to the whole set up is. where the heck are they !! Follow them on social media to see where they are parked. It’s kind of a blessing and a curse. You can’t just go to them when the feeling strikes you so you have to wait at times but it makes it more desirable to have one when you get the chance.

Oh my goodness! These doughnuts are heavenly. I have driven across town 4 times just to get them! The concept is ‘design your own doughnut’ from the glazes and toppings they offer, and every time I’ve gone they’ve also had a ‘special’ doughnut that they’ve designed for the day. The doughnuts are yeast doughnuts, which I am partial to, as compared to cake doughnuts. They make your doughnut to order right there in the truck and, when they hand it to you, it’s all hot and gooey with fresh glaze– it will literally melt in your mouth. The girls in the truck are super fun and energetic and the whole experience is a great one. This is a definite «don’t miss!!»

I’m so excited for Hi-​Five Doughnuts. I remember back when they were just a little food tent at the Flea Off Market and now they have their very own food truck. *so proud*
You have «design your own» pizza, burritos, noodles, and NOW donuts. Yes, donuts. how can you not love that? You pick a glaze and a topping, and can compliment your donut with Red Hot Roasters Coffee or Cereal Milk. How delicious is that?
I saw the truck at ThunderBlast with the Science Center on Thunder Day. I got the Red Hot Roasters Coffee and the donut special «Ale 8 Glaze with Pop Rocks» topping. It was like Thunder in my mouth. :)
I can’t wait to try my next donut concoction from Hi-​Five!

Your doughnut is, I am pretty sure, fried fresh. Because mine was light and fluffy and warm and AMAZING.
And then you get to choose the glaze flavor and the toppings! Who doesn’t love customized food?!
Anywhoozle…I, naturally, got the bourbon caramel glaze and topped it with bacon. Always bacon. It was delicious insanity!
Heaven in the form of food truck, friends!

I saw this truck for the first time at the off flea market. Honestly, the truck itself is white and boring. The eats, however, are really good! For three dollars you can select a glaze and a topping for your doughnut. With six or seven choices for each, your options are not very limited. What can limit your choices though is that some of the glazes contain alcohol. I had a Sinnamon glaze with Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top, and it was great. The doughnut was a little small at first sight, but the dough was chewy, dense, and delicious. It was well worth the three bucks because of the options I chose, so if you see this truck somewhere, make your way over and think about the flavors you want, then you’re bound to have a great doughnut.

So rude. Not sure how the donuts actually taste since the employees were so unhelpful we decided to leave.

I LOVE this place! Always such a great product and fantastic people. The Doughnuts are not your typical ‘air-​like’ doughnut, they are denser and have more substance. The best part is, you get to pick your own glaze and toppings!!!
This place is a #1 in my book!!!

Are doughnuts the next great DIY food, following in the footsteps of fro-​yo a la Orange Leaf and stir-​fry a la bd’s Mongolian Grill? If you get the chance to check out Hi-​Five Doughnuts, you’ll certainly think it is.
With Hi-​Five Doughnuts, you get to pick the glaze and the toppings for your doughnut — pure genius!!!
I finally caught up with Hi-​Five Doughnuts over the weekend. The ladies behind his brilliant business concept regularly set up shop at local fairs and events around Louisville.
And what I found when I giddily skipped my way to their booth were plain cake doughnuts, glazes that included chocolate, piña colada and bourbon caramel and toppings that included pecans, bacon, corn flakes, sprinkles, crushed pineapple and roasted coconut.

After surveying the options — our eyes wide with sugary wonder — my friend and I decided to try a chocolate glazed doughnut with bacon and a bourbon caramel glazed doughnut with pecans.
I mean, how can you *not* try a doughnut with bacon when that’s one of the options?!?
And I’m happy to report that Hi-​Five Doughnuts is more than a gimmick. The doughnuts were really good! The doughnuts were soft with a bit of sweetness — but not too much to where it competed with the indulgent toppings.
The doughnuts were smaller than what you might find at Dunkin’ Donuts, but on a warm day, while walking from fair booth to fair booth, I don’t think I’d want much larger than what Hi-​Five offers.
And the toppings were definitely the stars. The bourbon glaze — just get it. On everything. And the bacon was in small enough pieces to where it was easy to eat but still had flavor.
The doughnuts were $ 2.25 each, I believe. Not too shabby for a breakfast pastry made to order. They also have doughnut holes if you’re wanting something more bite-​size.
Morning, noon or night, I will make a bee-​line to Hi-​Five. And if they ever get a brick-​and-​mortar store or food truck, even better.
