Great haircut plus neck shave and post cut shampoo to get out the loose hair! Appointments and Walk-​ins make it easy for me to plan ahead or not. Great conversation too. I’ll be back in a few weeks.

I wouldn’t call myself picky about my hair, but I really enjoy having it cut by a knowledgeable stylist in a laid-​back setting where I can quickly and easily pop in and head on my way afterward. Highland Beauty and Barber is my most recent check-​in as I check out a salon to call my haircut home.
The location came to my attention thanks to Groupon. Located across Bardstown Rd from Highland Kroger, it’s an unassuming first-​floor salon with two entrances: one on the left for «Beauty» and another on the left for «Barber». I took the door on the left and found myself in a clean, tastefully decorated salon with a small waiting area. Kelli was my stylist and she greeted me promptly by name as she finished up with a client. I was impressed at how warm and professional she was right from the outset.
When it was my turn, I took my seat in the beautician’s chair and described what I wanted my trim to look like. After that was a relaxing shampoo with the water temperature and shampoo-​massaging-​in pressure just right.
Kelli wasted no time in getting my trim just right. She was efficient without making me feel rushed, and the styling at the end was simple and a perfect fit for my lifestyle. She was friendly without being overly chatty and definitely someone I would recommend to anyone looking for a stylist.
So, as LeVar Burton would say on Reading Rainbow, «You don’t have to take my word for it». Check out Kelli at Highland Beauty and Barber and you might just find a new favorite place to get your hair cut as well!

After giving this place another shot, I am very impressed. Tiffany, the owner, is so friendly & made sure things were quickly resolved.

Customer Service/​General Salon is Excellent. I came to HBB because I had a groupon for a Brazilian wax with Xac. I bought one with my boyfriend, but when we called to schedule, we found out that she no longer worked with male clients. Then in trying to schedule the appointments, I found out that her hours didn’t really work around my schedule. But Xac was kind enough to work around my schedule, and the salon told us we could call Groupon and would be able to get a refund. As someone from a retail/​business environment, I really appreciated the excellent customer service.
Xac herself made the experience enjoyable. She was great at maintaining conversation, and keeping my focus off of the pain of a Brazilian. I felt incredibly comfortable with her. Thanks so much!

This is a difficult review to write — I purchased a Groupon for a Brazilian w/​Xac, SHE IS AMAZING! It’s such an intimate and invasive service, but she was the consummate professional and put me totally at ease. Xac gets FIVE STARS!
With that said, this Unilocal is for the salon as a whole. Upon entering, I was immediately turned off by the fact that there was no one to greet me. I had to walk into the service area to communicate with a stylist who was shampooing a client who had the children from hell. Those children are why I gave the salon three stars. For forty minutes I watched young Lily and Corinne («CK» for short), ages about four and two, open the door which faces a busy Bardstown Rd., spin around in vacant stylists’ chairs, open and close the door to the barber’s area, step on my feet.. .you get the picture. As Corinne fell out of the chair, her mother never got up, as she screamed as loudly as she could because she didn’t get her way, her mother never admonished her. As Lily stepped on my feet, moved me put of the way, shook her hair in my face, etc., her mother never stopped her. As the girls played in Barbicide, went in stylists’ stations and were generally unruly, their mother said nothing and no salon employee encouraged her to. In fact, the stylist servicing the mother, Gracie, only intervened three times — when Corinne was playing in lip gloss, when Corinne fell out of the chair her sister was spinning her in and one of the times Corinne opened the main salon door.
I’m a mother, a single one at that. I know too well that sometimes our children have to go where we do. That being said, other customers’ experiences shouldn’t be tainted because of children who won’t mind and a parent/​parents who don’t make them. Now, had I addressed those girls, their mother’s feelings would’ve been hurt, but Lily thought it was funny to shake her hair in my face and step on my feet. I didn’t. Her mother had no clue what she was doing because she was sitting on the station opposite where we were and NEVER bothered to get up.
Being family friendly is one thing, but professionalism shouldn’t be sacrificed. I’ll go back and give the salon another try, but only because of Xac. When I go back, if there are children misbehaving, I won’t bite my tongue.

I love Highland Beauty and Barber! Jamie and Tiffany are the best! I started coming here soon after they opened because they are within walking distance to my house. I’m pretty sure I’ll keep coming back even if I move. Prices for a men’s haircut are very reasonable, and the straight razor hot shave is the most relaxing I’ve ever had. I highly recommend Highland Beauty and Barber for any guy who wants a shave and a haircut.

Awesome little place across from the Highlands Kroger. I was looking for a new place to get my hair cut and was up in the air between Derby City Chop Shop and this place, the complaints of wait at the chop shop (and the need for eyebrow waxing) pushed me over to scheduling an appointment with Beauty and Barber. First, whoever answered the phone was polite and suggested making an appointment to cut back on wait time — though walk-​ins are welcome. When I got there, the wait was short and Brit gave me a really clean fade. Very welcoming staff and affordable pricing (I had a men’s cut). The cut, straight razor to clean up my neckline, and wax itself took no time at all and looks great. I would definitely suggest stopping by and seeing Brit, she’ll make sure you’re comfortable and taken care of. Plus, you’ll leave looking good. The location itself does look like they’re doing some cleaning up on the inside, but don’t let that put you off from enjoying great service and getting a good finished product.

I chose Highland Beauty & Barber because of a Groupon offer, but I will definitely return for full-​price services. HB&B has great character and is anything but a cookie-​cutter shop. This only adds to how special they make every guest feel and the uniqueness of their services.
I visited for a wax from Xac, their esthetician, but I am considering visiting for my next haircut. Xac was fun, friendly, and good at making conversation — something really important in the midst of the painful waxing process. Her wax was precise and quick.
Everyone in Highland Beauty & Barber was incredibly nice, and I look forward to returning. An extra plus for an introvert like myself — you can schedule online! Woohoo!

One of the most friendly and skilled group of stylist’s and barbers I’ve seen, in Louisville. My husband and my two boys have been going for a while now and I’m scheduling soon. The feel of the shop is everyone gets along well they all talk to you and not chattering each other. I’ve been to a lot of salons and barber shops in Louisville and thus one is definitely worth checking into. My 5 year old and 8 year old Love their haircuts and mostly my husband who is very particular won’t go anywhere else. «They actually did what I wanted them to do with my hair» my husband said and his style he got from Britt is awesome!

Highland Beauty & Barber is the place to get great cuts & styles! I take my boys there for children’s cuts and Tiffany always does an amazing job. She is very patient with both my two-​year-​old and six year old. Love her!

Tiffany Shirley has been my hairdresser for as long as I can remember. She is an amazing stylist, absolutely loves what she does, and is always such a pleasure to spend time with! Highland Beauty & Barber is also a very relaxing place, and the other stylists are always so welcoming! You won’t regret your visit
