This is my #1 auto mechanic shop in the Louisville area. I’ve been taking my 2003 Jetta 1.8T to this shop since 2006 and I’ve never had any problem or complaint. Prices are reasonable and fair; plus Dave, the owner, is probably the most honest auto mechanic that I have ever met. I heard this from numerous independent sources before I even brought my car to the shop. Because the shop does excellent work, usually, it is always full. For any routine services, I always call to make an appointment. But that does not mean that the shop will not take emergency cases. In 2008, my water pump died on interstate 65, 59 miles south of Louisville. At the time I didn’t know the problem. I just knew that the car overheated, the temperature redlined and I couldn’t continue to drive. I had my car towed to Importdoktor and Dave’s shop took care of it expertly. Plus, their deal with Enterprise granted me a huge discount on a rental car while mine was being repaired.
I trust his shop implicitly with my import car and you should also. :-)

Nice little locally owned shop that has been very good for all of our cars. The guy who owns the lot does a very good job at a reasonable rate of fixing imports.

The owner, David, is the most honest person in this business that you’ll ever meet. I took my Toyota in for a transmission/​clutch issue, and he was extremely helpful. He squeezed me in, in spite of being booked two weeks out, and personally drove my car to diagnose the issue — at no charge. He was honest in the fact that my manual transmission is getting a little age, which is causing uneasy shifting, but there is indeed no problem at all. He even printed out instructions on how I can tighten the emergency brake without having them do it for a fee.
We will absolutely take our cars back in the future.

We took our 2005 Passat in with leaky coolant. The referring mechanic thought it would be around $ 800. Well…$ 1500 later and a revisit later we finally have a stable car. The staff was accomodating and helpful when we had an issue right after getting the car out the first time. I blame the car more than the service — not that I can ever know for sure. We’ll be back — but hopefully not anytime soon!

I’ve been getting my car serviced here for 5 years now. I’ve always been treated fairly and honestly. They are my absolute first choice provider in the area. Regarding the complaints that people have had to take their vehicle back multiple times, I’ve always been given the option that the repair could be A or B, most likely A – here’s the cost for each, how should we proceed? If they’ve left a car unrepaired, I have every confidence the owner’s choice based on budget played a role. I have a quirky ½ model year car that’s parts of a couple of different VWs, it’s a right pain to work on and a model with known electrical issues. I have a wish list of fixes and they always work within my limits to keep my car on the road and driving safely.

Like most people have said, the people are friendly, fair priced, and take some time to get into. I would rate them higher typically but both me and one of my family members have struggled with getting the issue solved the last few visits. I originally took my Jetta in to see why the RPMs were not stabilizing. The first time we replaced a sensor, this worked for about 2 or 3 weeks. took the vehicle in again and was sold a new water pump and belt as a solution to the problem. Roughly $ 1000 later I’m proud to announce my Jetta still can’t maintain a steady idle RPM. To say the least I will be finding a new shop that works on imports.

Talked to Jordan today and she was so nice and helpful. Neither VW dealerships were helpful and when I called the Volksdoktor she was there to answer all of my questions. Kind employees get you business and I’m going to refer Volksdoktor to my VW friends. If I ever need service on my Jetta I’m going here!

When I moved to Louisville, my 2009 GTI was still under warranty, so I had taken it in for routine service at a local dealership. The dealership charged me $ 92 for nothing, and just generally sucked. By the time I got to Volksdoktor, I was angry, frustrated, and cursing German engineering.
Long story short, I haven’t taken my car for service anywhere else in Louisville.

I rate this company a 4.5. I brought my vehicle here for its 80,000 mile service.
Their scheduling was accommodating and fast.
This place has the feel of an owner operated and ran auto repair shop. Shortly after I arrived, I was assured that the service would be completed within the day. In the meantime, they had a driver on hand to run me back to my hotel. awesome…
The mechanic called several times to keep me updated on any items they found that needed correction before proceeding with the repair/​service. My perception of them is that they were being completely forthright with their analysis and not attempting to sell me unnecessary service. To me this is an invaluable asset in an auto repair shop.
All service was completed within their estimated time. They picked me back up and drove me back to the shop. A complete price breakdown was explained for services rendered and they threw down a 10% military discount on top of it all.
All in all I would highly recommend this auto repair shop for any Volkswagen or Audi drivers. They completed all necessary service well under the cost of a dealership service in a timely and efficient manner.

Brought in my Passat for axles and front wheel bearings. Staff was very professional and did not pressure me with up sales. Work was done promptly and price was reasonable. I am sure I will be back.

I had a car accident while driving through Louisville en route to northern Indiana. The front end was demolished – grille smashed, both headlights broken, hood buckled, radiator and fans mangled, coolant reservoir shattered, the works. I was 200 miles from home and 200 miles from my destination and I don’t know anyone or anything in Louisville. I found Volksdoctor via a Google search on my smartphone and had the car towed there. David (the owner) and his staff were incredibly helpful, the estimate was fair and the work was done quickly and extremely well. A little over a week later I am back on the road and my car looks better than new. I absolutely would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone in the area.

I heard a lot of good things about Volksdoctor so when I needed my heat and rear bearings fixed I decided to try them out. I found the front desk personel to be very courteous and efficient. I was contacted in a timely manner with the results of the mechanics diagnosis and after discussing the expense of the repair with my wife I called them back and set them off to work.
The heater core was bad and would be the bulk of the repair of my 97 Jetta. The coil was also found to be bad and the air box had the typical seal rot which was also repaired. I realize this is a lot of work to do and a lot to keep track of but I expected them to be more than capable based on what I had heard and read about them. There was also to be an oil change and tire rotation after the other repairs were completed. After 2 days work and an idol weekend because they are not open on the weekend I got the call that all was finished and I could come pick it up. My wife picked it up because I was working.
The next day I was able to get in it and check it out. First the center console was not put back together. It was flopping around all over the place and I found 2 screws and plastic covers laying on the floor in the back. I knew exactly where they came from and how to replace them but I just paid good money so that I wouldn’t have to do any of the work myself. I also found 2 more screws in the front floor from the dash. To me, these little oversights are a big deal. I expect a lot from professionals and a big part of that is details. If they forgot these what else could they have forgotten?
I got a call later that day informing me that they forgot to do the oil change and tire rotation. So we arrange another ride so we can take it back in for this work to be finished. I decided to let the screws go for now. I just wanted to get my car back at this point. I had to borrow a car so I could do my job and it was coming close to a week now that I was borrowing this car. So they call to let us know it is once again ready to pick up. So we do and I drive it to work the next day. Something is not right with the breaks in the rear. I drive it all night for work, I deliver pizza, and it got worse but wasn’t undrivable. I drive to work the next day and now the breaks are popping and grinding in the back. So, in between shifts I have to swap cars again to finish my shift. Next day I call and they tell me to bring it back in, again. They took it back in and I went ahead and told them about the screws too.
They were courteous about it but this type of screwup just doesn’t warrant more than 2 stars from me. Wouldn’t even be that if they had been nasty to me when I came back in. Only way I’ll be back is if no one else can do the work. Won’t be my go to mechanic, which is upsetting. I had really hoped it would.

This place is great, the people are nice and I had good work done on my Jetta for a reasonable price.
That being said, both times that I took it in, it was a week plus out to get a reservation. Yeah, so my alarm is malfunctioning and going off over and over again and they can’t get to it for a week. While I realize that is because people love them so much, that just won’t cut it for a serious issue.
P. S. When first going there it looks like you are at a house. Keep going and the garage/​shop is back behind the house right on Lexington.

I had heard a lot of good things about their service, but I was really disappointed. Here are my reasons:
–had to schedule an appointment weeks in advance for routine stuff
–despite having an appointment they didn’t even look at my vehicle until several days later
–Owner was very rude to me
–Slightly overpriced, but they do quality work, so you do get what you pay for
I’d go elsewhere and save yourself the headache. Yes they do good work, but so do others in town and they will actually appreciate your business.

Great service and fair prices. My radiator went out after 95k miles and I brought it here based on other reviews. Replaced for a very reasonable fee and even helped buff out a few scratches when I picked it up.
They have a full body shop too if you need it.

I had the misfortune having my AC stop working on a roadtrip to Chicago. Not being in Baltimore, I had no idea where to take my car. Sears in Atlanta wanted to replace my compressor for a billion dollars. After talking to my mechanics in b-​more (T&S), they told me it was probably a fuse not the compressor. When I stopped in Louisville, I looked up VW car repair places. Every dealership wanted to charge me $ 100 to just diagnose the problem even though I told them I just needed the fuses replaced. I saw an ad for volksdoctor and even had a competitor who was unable to fit me recommend this shop. These guys fit me in despite being overbooked b/​c I was on a roadtrip. And they charged me fairly. I can’t say enough about these guys!

I have brought my old Audi’s here for 8 years. The mechanics are very skilled and knowledgeable (foreign car geeks, really… and I use that word endearingly), the prices are fair and they’re honest. From the very start, there have been many situations in which they could have made more money from me. Instead, they always suggested the option that would save me the most. They earned my trust in the beginning.
They are also very busy as they are in high demand. As is often the case with me, I own more than one car and my service has been postponed for a customer in a more desperate situation…(only car, from out of town etc) I am fine with that because when I am in dire need of quick service, I know that the Volksdoktor comes through for me, each and every time.
On top of all of that, everyone there is friendly and I always feel welcomed.

Some of the hardest things to find in life include; a woman willing to put up with my nonsense, a good doctor, and an honest mechanic. I’m happy to say I’ve found all three. The Volksdoktor will provide honest work at a reasonable price. They are so honest that one time I took my car in for a repair and the mechanic told me the repair should be covered by VW. Then he told me what to say to the dealership to get the repair done for free. It about blew my mind. Sure enough the dealership tried to get me to pay for the repair until I reiterated what Volksdoktor told me.
Car repairs tend to never be cheap but Volksdoktor is always reasonable and always cheaper than other VW mechanics. Turn around is pretty quick too. A+

If you are looking for a place to take your car for some honest service and great prices this is the place. Especially if you own a higher end import… BMW, Audi, Saab, Mercedes. I have taken three of my vehicles there a couple of times and would not go anywhere else. Their quotes are always right on. Heck the last quote on my BMW was $ 1,500 and when I went to pick it up it was only $ 900. I also was prepared to spend big money elsewhere and ended up taking my car here for a second opinion and it was a small $ 50 problem. Bottom line, these guys will take care of you!
