I eat here a lot when I get a sushi craving. It’s not as good as some other sushi I’ve had in Louisville, but it lets me get my fix.

Last time I got sushi togo. Found long hair in my sushi. Other than that, the sushi tasted good. No online menu to help with placing an order.

Yummy sushi spot with friendly service! Came here with a friend for dinner one Thursday night and we were not disappointed. We both had ginger salads(not the best in town, but still yummy), and sushi rolls. I ordered the Hawaiian roll because I love sushi with fruit on top, and my friend ordered the crunch munch roll(her go-to roll). The Hawaiian roll was delicious, topped with crushed pecans and that yummy, sweet eel sauce. I definitely recommend! The crunch munch was also very good! It has a little kick to it, too. Service was fast and friendly, and it was pretty empty for dinner time, so there was no wait. I will be back!

Very disappointed in the service here. I had been a few times before for carry out, but this last experience was a nightmare(how can you have a nightmare carry out experience?!). I called in the order and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Perfect. I arrived on time, it wasn’t ready. Ok, that’s understandable. I waited around with my daughter in the small area, watching the fish and such. My daughter went to touch the cat toothpick holder(it looked like a toy) and the woman helping us yelled at her and nearly grabbed my daughter’s hand. No no no. Scared her(she’s three), so I had to take her outside to manage the breakdown the server caused. The server then offered my daughter a sugar soda-type drink(NO), which I tried to politely decline. All of this while waiting 25 extra minutes for our carry out order. If I hadn’t paid shortly after we walked in, I would have left. After the outburst towards my daughter and the outrageous wait time on a previously-placed carry out order, I won’t be going back.

I really wanted to like this place, but man was I disappointed. The food ended up being fine, but if my husband and I are paying $ 60 for a meal, the service better be halfway decent. We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday night. Masa is tucked away in a strip plaza off Shelbyville Rd., which is usually a good sign when it comes to Asian restaurants. There was plenty of parking. The dining area is pretty small. Décor is pretty standard. Nice, but not super modern or hip. When we walked in, the hostess told us it would be a 20 – 30 minute wait for sushi. Understandable, as was only one open table, which we were seated at promptly. From there, service was extremely slow. Started off with some drinks. Yay for $ 4.50 glasses of house wine. I had some Chardonnay, and my husband had a New Castle. We ended up ordering a chicken teriyaki(came with miso soup and house salad) and two sushi rolls. The food took forever. Waitress didn’t bring out my soup and salad for more than 30 min., then delivered the teriyaki before the sushi was ready. The sushi ended up taking close to an hour. The rolls(California and Cherry Blossom) were just OK. My husband enjoyed them, but I’ve had better. At this point we’d been waiting forever, watching tables who sat down after us finish their meals. I had high hopes for this place based on all the positive Unilocal reviews, but I don’t think I’ll be back. Perhaps their lunch service is better?

Coming from California on business and doing sushi in Kentucky? Absolutely! Fresh freighted in daily! Who da thunk? Mmmm. Don’t let the local or frontage discourage you. «A» rated restaurant. Wide variety of rolls –2 pages worth — and large enough for two people. My coworker and I had edamame, udon soup and two rolls. Plen-ty. Pleasant atmosphere and great service for a Tuesday evening.

I’m so disappointed with the service here. We got a table right away when we came but we had to wait for 10 minutes until a waitress show up. She wasn’t very friendly and seemed to be rushed. She took our paper order(that we filled out) away without confirming our orders. The food took forever to come out and before we even finish our meal, she already handed us our check. Uhhh rude! I think this place seriously needs to hire more staff. We scanned the room and only saw one waitress running around for a long time before we can spot another one to wave her down. My other complaint is how small the rolls are. even with the«chef special» geisha roll I got. Maybe I got spoiled by how big the rolls are at other places that this place didn’t meet my expectation. The food is good though and that’s why I’m giving 3 stars and not 1. I like the flavorful broth in their udon, and the sushi is delicious. I didn’t like the crispy avocado appetizer… It’s just not crispy at all!

When I was asked«what about sushi?» as the choice spot for lunch, I smiled big on the outside but inside I was worried. I’ve enjoyed a spicy crab roll and beer a couple of times but in general I avoid fish — especially raw fish — at all costs. My anxiety also grew after we sat down and began reviewing the menu. I couldn’t find a simple roll with 1 – 2 ingredients. So, I took a deep breath and decided to make the best of it. I ordered the house salad and miso soup. The salad is just enough — mainly lettuce but a flavorful dressing. The miso soup was a smooth broth with a few pieces of seaweed and tofu. And then … my roll arrived. It was dubbed the«Sunshine Roll» and it was beautiful! Spicy crab and avocado wrapped in seaweed and rice with shrimp tempura also speckled in. I soaked it in soy sauce as well. It was a great balance — nothing too fishy, spicy or salty. At the end, a bit of sweetness comes through and then the crunch of the shrimp. Just loved it! The restaurant was quiet for lunch. We had friendly, quick service which is a great combination for a lunch meeting and/or limited time frame. It’s tough to see from the road because it sits in a shopping-type center with other businesses.(Look for the YMCA& Feeders Supply to know you’re in the right spot)

I’m so glad I found a good sushi place near my office. I loved working downtown and being near Bendoya and Osaka. When I was working in the Highlands I was close to Oishii(my favorite)! Since I started working in the J-town Middletown vicinity I wasn’t sure what sushi place would be good. Today I had the biggest sushi craving and consulted Unilocal.Woohoo! As usual, it was a wise choice. There was no wait at all. The server took my drink order(Matcha green tea) and gave me a few minutes to look over the menu. I saw many rolls that sounded good. I made my selections and she asked if I wanted a soup or salad. I went with the Miso soup. Yum! I loved the flavor. For my rolls I ordered the double spicy(yum yum and cucumber inside topped with spicy tuna and onions and sesame seeds) and a salmon roll. The double spicy was one of the best rolls I’ve had! I am so excited to go back and try some of the other wonderful sushi rolls at Masa! The prices were comparable to other places too. I would like to see some lunch specials, but I got spoiled by all the downtown deals.

The best sushi experience I’ve had since leaving DC in August. I came here on 13 November during the dinner period, and had a very nice experience. It was not jammed and I was seated right away. Ordering was pretty quick, and the staff was very friendly and helpful, but actually getting my sushi was a little slow. I also had rice and a house salad — quality was good but the ginger dressing was one of the creamy ones — not a fan. Sushi was worth waiting for. I had a plain tuna roll, cucumber roll, and a Miami roll(tuna and avocado) with added cucumber — plain but what I like. Ingredients were good quality and workmanship was good. Miami roll was an inside-out roll, also good. They have plenty of hot food choices as well, and the atmosphere was family-friendly. We will definitely be back. Also offered a to-go cup of my soda, even though mine was mostly hone. Very happy! Would actually give it 4.5 stars except for the delay in getting the sushi to the table.

Delicious, friendly, adaptable First time at this place and just wanted something different. Asked the sushi chef if I could change up one of the signature rolls and he said sure. Asked if I could have the Cardinal Roll with spicy tuna instead of spicy crab. I went for lunch on Wednesday and it was quiet and service was very fast.

First time here at Masa. I Love Sushi and this place did not disappoint. We ordered two rolls and Tuna Tataki. The Tataki had a sweet Miren sauce that lingered so delightfully I wish I had two platefuls. It did not have all the extra seasonings that can take away from good seafood. The tuna flavor really shined through and held it’s own. The Thunder roll had tuna and shrimp and a surprising crunch with just enough rice that did not over power the mouth when you took a bite. The Lucky Roll was tuna topped with a fruity mango that was so light and fresh it melted in your mouth. I will visit this place again and again.

I didn’t know I was a sushi person… Until a friend insisted I try masa. My life has been changed forever. There are many restaurants in Louisville that I love, but this is my absolute, hands down, favorite. I haven’t had a roll yet that I haven’t fallen in love with. Very fresh & oh so flavorful. If I haven’t had my masa fix this week, you can officially consider me «hangry». It’s usually the two same women working on the floor. When it gets busier, you do end up waiting a little bit longer. So it seems they need some extra help. I don’t mind waiting though — I know the end product is going to be amazing!

We went to a sushi making class and most of the people there said they loved Masa. We had not been, but we will be back, now that we have. They made sushi from a picture we showed them. Very friendly service. We liked all the rolls we has. The Rock Star was a special and was delicious. The Avocado appetizer was wonderful.

What can I say as to I’ve been coming here nearly 5 days a week for the last month due to a project. Coming from LA, I wasn’t expecting much but was thoroughly surprised. The chefs are knowledgable and overwhelmingly personable, but most of all, the food quality is consistent — day in/day out. I’ll be back here again.

Im soooo torn as to what rating i’ll give this establishment … which is probably why I’ve waited so long to review it. I LOVE it here, yet there’s just one minor«nails on a chalkboard» thing … 5STARS: FOOD/CLEANLINESS– They always have great sushi, no matter when we decide to go(usually a late Sunday lunch). Great quality and flavor is spot on. We’ve never been disappointed :) plus, the restaurant amd bathrooms have always been clean. 2STARS: EMBIANCE– To me, having a sushi experience is all about taking in the atmosphere while enjoying my company and great sushi. I want to hear the bamboo shakuhachi or the strum of a koto … Not Sirius XMs top 40 radio. Unfortunately, this past time we went, we couldn’t get out of there fast enough :/I don’t want to hear Miley Cyrus, or Kane west or even macklemore while I’m eating my Philly roll and miso soup. Totally ruins the experience :( So, I’ve settled with a 3.5 … Maybe I’ll get some take out later … Because it is oh so good :)
