Nachbar is in the heart of the Germantown Neighborhood and is a great good weather bar. I’m a big fan of dive bars, but Nachbar seems to miss the mark when considering dive“ness,” which is a good thing! The Nachbar has a fantastic selection of beers and liquor available for its patrons. The layout is great, there are two outdoor patios, one in the front with round tables and the other in the back with long picnic tables and benches. There’s also a small covered area for bands to play or for braving the outside during any inclement weather. The inside has small tables with stools, a long bar, an old TV to catch UofL games on, and some old couches to lounge on. The rotating tap list is the best part of Nachbar besides its location. If you like beer, you’ll definitely find something you enjoy on the list, and more often than not, there are at least 4 beers I want to try or try again on their tap list. The liquor is pretty standard, but is always mixed well. Nachbar does not have any food, so if you show up and get all of those tasty drinks and beer, prepare yourself to hike it to the Post or somewhere else near by if you get a drunken appetite. Living in Germantown makes Nachbar one of the best places to stop by if you’re a beer enthusiast, enjoy late night jukeboxes or bands, enjoy seeing other people in Germantown, or if you just like to have a good time. Check it out.

The bar had a suprisingly nice selection of beer on tap. The prices were great. My favorite thing they had behind the bar was Well 12 yr at a really reasonable price.

My beloved Nachbar, how I miss being able to walk home at the end of a fun-filled night spent on your patio or barstool. Years of living in Germantown made this place my local, my neighborhood joint, my Cheers. Although I moved out of state and then back to another hopping neighborhood, I still come to enjoy the kind vibe at the Nach. Nachbar has everything you want in a neighborhood dive — a great jukebox, live music, cats/dogs prowling about, a front and back patio, and strong drinks. Their rotating taps always have something intriguing that I’ll enjoy(in summertime its Stiegl Radler or Wittekerke). Plenty of bourbons and vodkas keep me happy year round. No where else in town can I get a Makers and Ale 8 at this price! People call Nach a hipster bar, but I’ve seen everyone from old timers who grew up in Gtown to soccer moms with babies in strollers enjoying each other’s company at this meeting place. Nachbar brings folks together over drinks to share stories and spend some time away from their devices to appreciate each other. I love Nachbar and will continue to patronize as long as the doors stay open and the drinks continue flowing!

This bar is a little b-word. You walk in and right there in your face is this big, bright, glowing sign that says NOSMILING. Every time I’m there though, all I do is laugh and smile with my friends and the dudes behind the bar. THEBARDOESNOTHINGABOUTIT! Doesn’t say a word. What a *****.

I enjoyed yesterday afternoon at Nachbar quite a bit. It was easy to find parking on the street. There were seats in both the shade and sun outside, and my friends were able to bring their dog, which was excellent. Although the bartender wasn’t super friendly, he was relatively helpful when I asked for suggestions. A few things that could have been improved: 1) Signs on the bathrooms. Even if we’re going for a gender neutral thing, then something designating that would be welcome. It’s not til I walked into the left one and saw that there was no lock that I realized it must be the men’s and turned around and walked back out. 2) Man, I wish there’d been music on the patio. We had good friends and conversation, but it’s nice to have some background tunes going, and sadly there was none to be had. And in a place that has an actual jukebox, the promise of good music is strong. 3) Space heaters. By the time we got into evening hours, some of us were cold, and this isn’t the first bar with a patio in Lou that I think would benefit enormously from some heat. Especially if they’re not serving hot toddies. I’d love to come sometime and hang inside because it looks super cozy and chill. Love the owl lamp and random touches and art.

Great bar! Welcoming, great music, and they serve a helluva Manhattan. We were there in a Saturday night and it wasn’t too crowded. Nothing drives me nuts at a bar more then when they are blasting terrible music. This place was playing a great mix of my kind of music at a volume you can still have conversations.

It is what it is. If you’re looking for a casual dive to drink good, cold beer, this fits the bill. The bartender was knowledgeable and friendly.

So happy I live within walking distance of this place. The best beer selection in town, friendly bartenders, awesome jukebox, and sometimes even some pups hanging out back! Yeah there are«hipsters» but there are also plenty of other types of people. I’d say anyone would feel welcome here. Also there’s a ton of seating outside which is always a plus. Nach bar luvr 4 life!

I used to frequent Nachbar but hadn’t been there in a long time until last Saturday night. I was reminded why I like it so much. Nachbar is a very casual place to drink good craft beer(or other beverages if you prefer) in Germantown. It’s a little hard to find — in fact, some people say you should get an award if you find it. The inside is quite dark but the front and back patios are large and great places to hang out with friends on a nice night. Nachbar is dog friendly which I personally love(they have a list of dog rules outside). There is no food so not the place for you if you’re hungry. The bartenders are friendly and helpful as you take a look at the draft list or extensive bottle offering. The place can feel a bit grungy inside but that’s part of the charm. It gets really busy late at night. We arrived at 8:30 and the place was fairly empty but by 10pm, it filled up quickly and was going strong when we left around 11pm. If you like good beer and a dive bar feel, I highly recommend visiting this drinking spot in Germantown!

It was nice to actually be able to go grab a drink and chill and have conversation. It seems like that is rather elusive now. Places that used to be chill now require screaming over loud music and being squished. I’m not a super big beer drinker so I didn’t know all of the beers on the list, but tried some and they were good. Cool place. Divey, but not dirty. Bring your own TP though.

Great Bar. Great atmosphere. Great people. Just the right mix of quirky dive bar and bad ass beer list.

Nachbar is one of those places that I never mind visiting when someone else invites me but I would never go to on my own. The staff and other patrons are generally friendly. They have a great beer selection, but they don’t serve any food at all. If you want food you have to have it delivered from a restaurant. They also allow dogs so it’s not unusual to have multiple people’s dogs hanging out on the patio or in the bar. Great if you are a dog person, not cool if you are not(or allergic or afraid of them).

According to wikipedia: «A dive bar is an informal bar or pub. Such bars are sometimes referred to as neighborhood bars, where local residents gather to drink and socialize.» CHECK. Further more, it states: «Individual bars may be considered to be disreputable, sinister, or even a detriment to the community.» Disreputable? Hm… probably. Detriment to the community? Detriment to Sunday mornings by way of hangovers. Sinister? Erm… I’m just not sure about this one. And finally, «This was especially true in earlier times: ‘A plot to entrap young women for the dives of Northern Wisconsin has been discovered.’» Okay, things just took a turn for the worse. Although I may not completely agree with wiki, this bar is absolutely the epitome of a dive bar. Actually, I think I’ll go with the Urban Dictionary’s definition to express the appropriate sentiment: «A well-worn, unglamorous bar, often serving a cheap, simple selection of drinks to a regular clientele.» Spot on, Urban Dictionary.

This bar holds up to the saying«it takes all kinds of kinds», and you will find that at Nach. If people watching is your thing, than you have struck gold because this place provides it with cheap PBRs to go along with it. The inside is tiny and reminds me of of my grandparent’s basement which generally keeps me out on the patio. They also have live music from time to time but the size and set up of the bar are not the best for performances. Overall the Nach is a fun place for the eclectic neighborhood that is Germantown.

There’s something almost magical about this bar that made it feel instantly cozy as soon as we sat down. I’d never been here before, and neither of us were locals, but it felt very welcoming. Maybe it was the instant service, or the insanely fair prices. Or the cat who sat in the bar stool next to me. Yes, I do mean a feline was seriously sitting next to me. It just seemed right somehow. They have a noteworthy selection of beers from all over. Lots of exotic imports, as well as some local brews. And they had good liquor, being sold at half the price I’m accustomed to paying. The set up is tasteful and maybe a little vintage, but without being kitschy. My friend and I both commented on how much we liked it.

Great dive bar, hipster but not in a judge-y kind of way, decently priced drinks, great outdoor space. As a fluent German-speaker, I am embarrassed to admit how long it took me to realize that Nachbar is the perfect name for this place. It means«Neighbor» and the bar is situated on the corner in a residential area. Also it is *in* Germantown. But in my defense, whenever the bar came up in conversation, I was mostly focused on the drinks we intended on having. I decided we *had* to go in tonight after being told that they have my absolute favorite beer on tap. Stigel Grapefruit Radler. I was introduced to radler beer when I lived in Germany, and enjoyed at least a case of this particular brand and style last November when I was in Vienna visiting a friend on vacation. This is the first time EVER I have found a true Radler in the States. And I am so, so excited it’s here. A bit pricey per glass($ 4.50, but as an unfamiliar import, not bad) but it’s totally my jam and a great beer for the summer(light and a little sweet). I don’t know if their having this on tap is temporary… I’ll have to go back to find out. And have another glass or two.
