Throo the Zoo 5K Run/Walk

It was a perfect Autumn morning for a run-​but wait it was a week after Derby! Winds at 25 miles per hour and upper 40’s-welcome to Kentucky!
I have been compared to Clint Eastwood’s character in Grand Torino– Grumpy-​so I was hesitant t o begin my review until I read other comments so I know it wasn’t only MY grumpy demeanor!
The starting line was poorly marked. I thought it was through the zoo so I went to the entrance. After hearing a couple of guys walking by saying the start used to be there but they moved it over here, I followed them.
Being old AND slow I felt guilty about getting in the upper third of the crowd. The horn sounded 7 minutes late much to my military-​pricise expectations, and I found myself stuck behind some walkers! Oh, the inconsideration, oh the humanity. The course started us on a cart path used by zoo workers so there was a serious logjam for the first quarter mile. Then the course took us around the parking lot and the runners were heading to Joe Creason Park! At this time, I was ready to look for my car, call it a day, and go work some overtime.
But my stubbornness kicked in and I was going to show these run coordinators I would finish their false promises. Eventually, our run did take us INTO the zoo. And by serendipity the Rhinos, my favorite animals (not sure if it is phallic in reason or because I can relate to their personalities.
The course ended well with good markings, water, energy drinks, coffee, and bagels. I hope the organizers take heed to the criticisms so I enjoy the run more next year.
