Nice atmosphere. People who frequent here are friendly and easy to talk to. Events, game days, karaōke and more. The food is ok, typical bar food. 2 pool tables that are easy to get a game on.

Used to live near this place and would go occasionally for a quick beer and some apps.
Was in the area tonight, so we stopped in and I was charged $ 3.00 for a tiny container of jalapeño slices to go with my chicken quesadilla… I thought that was outrageous!
Anyways, ok dive to grab a beer, but I don’t think I’ll be dying to go back anytime soon.

Always consistently good on the food but just left due to small children in the bar (not the restaurant– the bar). There were a tenish year old boy and sevenish year old girl posted up at the claw machine with their whole drinking family. They had six or seven stuffed animals already. I would have distracted myself with some music from the jukebox for my husband and I to dance to but a different adolescent girl put ten dollars worth of Katy Perry for her mom and her to jam out to before I got a chance. It’s early, 9:45, but it’s a Friday night. I left because I don’t have my own kids and don’t want to party with someone else’s. And P. S., why the f**k is there a stuffed animal claw machine in the bar?

I’ve been served at the bar and at a table. The staff is very friendly, with great customer service. Don’t get any beers on draft, the lines must be dirty. I tried two different draft beers and both had a funky taste to it. Stick with the bottles. The food is average. I got the baked haddock. Haddock was good. Vegetables were the frozen kind. gross. They have pool tables, keno, free popcorn, dance floor on the weekends, and an outdoor patio.
All and all if you’re looking for a spot to have some snacks and watch the game, have some casual fun this is it. If you’re looking for good draft beer and great food, try somewhere else.

Until recently, it had been about a year since we last went to JJ Boomers and I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I used to joke about how we’d bring friends who are visiting to JJ Boomers because it was kind of dumpy and jammed with middle aged patrons with heavy accents. That said, I was surprised with the fresh coat of paint and the remodel separating the restaurant from the lounge.
The service has already been great and though the vegetables are mostly canned and pretty icky, the rest of the menu was good.
We will likely be back much sooner than another year passes.

I was excited to check this place out. It sounded like a fun place. we entered through the bar side and it seemed a little sketchy and outdated. Or a bunch of smokers gathered outside the door we had to pass through. Gross… But I guess that’s not the restaurant’sfault just the clientele.
The menu was okay and the waitress was nice. You might go back but really, it would be nice if the place was remodeled

hmm, we went here to watch a game. The service was terrible (they weren’t that crowded) The table was sticky, the bar was dirty and wings were barely edible. I won’t be back.

We recently had our company holiday party here. It was perfect. We had about 50 people and used the dance floor area where they usually have their DJ and karaōke. The pool tables provided the right amount of «something to do». The owners, Jim and Claire, were gracious and helpful.
The bar service was great (much appreciated by my employees) but the best part was the FOOD! We had numerous delicious dishes that we all were remarking on. The steak tips were killer. Nobody needed a knife to eat them — tender, juicy — I’m getting hungry just writing about it.
We usually like to move the holiday party around to different locations, but I am seriously considering repeating — it was that good.

First and foremost don’t think this is a 5 star restaurant, so ignore that part of the rating. But as far as dive bars go, this a 5 star dive bar. It fits all the requirements of a dive bar — the prices are good, the food is actually very good, and the atmosphere is laid back and upbeat. There is always something going– karaōke pool tables and poker night.

I am a long time customer at JJ Boomers and have many delicious meals there.
They have the best chicken wings (fresh not breaded) I have ever had try them with the «Sweet and Spicy» sauce. Their salads are very fresh and large, they have fantastic french fries and their rotisserie chicken is also a fantastic meal with baked potato salad and veggie. They have keno TV’s at every table if you are into that and one other thing I want to mention is that unlike many other restaurants nearby, they are happy to accommodate your requests for example when I order haddock I ask for it to be cooked in olive oil instead of butter and they do that for me.
They also have constantly changing specials. The Bar area is large and has a nice atmosphere and the parking lot is huge. Give it a try and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Went here for dinner last night as an alternative to our first choice which had over an hour wait for a table for two. Service was painfully slow. Food was good but not great. My husband’s drink was very weak. Waitress was friendly when she eventually came by to our table. I hadn’t been here in a while — was happy to see that they’ve modernized their interior some.

Ok first timer here. A bit odd the main enterance is walking into a bar-​ish place, the to find out there is sit down dining in the back. Prices are good, food wasn’t that bad. However, there are signs everywhere it is a visual overload! Less is more!

I have been eating here for many years and I absolutely love it. The food is wonderful and the prices are great too. I would recommend J. J Boomers to everybody.

I visited last night after class and I was very hungry. I sat down and wanted a turkey dinner, not realizing the kitchen closes in twenty minutes. The wait staff, very nice and attentive with a sense of urgency informed me that it may not be that great because the kitchen people are closing up soon. She was right, the turkey was a bit hard and cold and the bread over toasted, stuffing was crunchy and not all that great. Overall this meal was okay because of how hungry I was and the bartender offered to buy me a beer which was really nice. My conclusion. Coming from a management background in restaurants the idea is to always serve fresh food up until closing no matter what, This is why the fast food places that do close are so successful. I understand the cooks need to get home, however they should be trained to sell the best food possible to a paying customer and not be worried about closing until the clock strikes close, then you clean. Their is no exception to this and if you are getting ready to close, grab a clean sauteed pan, heat the food hot with fresh sauces and cook it with perfection. needless to say I was well informed what I was getting, my mere point is, high standards should always be the focus no matter what time it is and the cooks should be well aware of this with no grey area whatsoever. Overall good place to have a delicious pumpkin head beer and the bartender was excellent.

I used to work here during my summers back in MA in college, and good memories and good times. The soups are great and the seafood entrees were my favorite. Nice outdoor patio too for the summertime.

Cheap 23 oz Pabst drafts, solid buffalo wings, a claw machine and a lava lamp — what’s not to like?
Anyone claiming this is a dive hasn’t been to a truly shitty bar. Eccentric? Odd? Perhaps. But then, whats an American bar without some kitsch. In short, the atmosphere ranges somewhere between Funcoland and a strip club (a clean one to be fair). I like it, no, I love it. Though, I wish it actually had strippers.
As far as the service goes: yes, it’s a bit slow. For me, I could careless. Grab some popcorn, kick back, enjoy the patio. Eventually a waitress will catch wind of you. They’re all pleasant if you tip proper and act like a contributing citizen. In fact, they’re quite charming in a way that’s been lost during this advent of faux upscale martini bars. A little raspy, a little rough … gives a shit just enough to satisfy withought seeming like they’re running for congress.
All in all, it’s a well priced place which lives up to the expectations it sets.

It’s a turd, no doubt about it… dive bar, gaudy shit all over the place, the crowd could be a bit «rough» around the edges… but hey, it’s always got something going on and the beers are cold… I’ll return — though it’s really out of laziness, location and goon watching — I can’t say I’d recommend it. How’s that for bizarro world?

J.J. Boomers has become one of our favorite healthy comfort food restaurants. We love the large, roomy booths and general good value of the restaurant in the back, behind the large bar area (it’s a whole different room and atmosphere than the front room).
If my husband doesn’t get his favorite chicken parmigiana, we often choose from the chef’s specials for dinner. Standard menu favorites for dinner include the superb Caesar salad and chicken quesadilla (we split the large Caesar and the ample chicken quesadilla). If we’re there on a Sunday night, my husband enjoys the prime rib special ($ 11.99 last time we were there), which comes with a salad and two sides. Speaking of sides, if you like butternut squash, I highly recommend JJ’s butternut side dish, just the right nutmeg and spices make this side dish extraordinary.
Most recently I tried JJ’s lobster dinner — this was a special on the menu and it was excellent. The 1 ½lb. lobster was stuffed with crabmeat (could also get it boiled or broiled plain), and it came with the usual salad and two sides. This is a casual place, so it was fun to be eating this «extravagant» lobster dinner in flip flops, as it were.
NOTES: 1) All the servers are terrific, but we especially like Adam Hastetler, a young man who is extremely attentive but not intrusive. Adam was quick to bring extra napkins, water and whatever we needed (the lobster was a messy meal for me). Adam also has a great sense of humor and style — he makes the meal memorable! 2) Thursday and Friday nights there is karaōke in the bar area with huge crowds. I don’t mind the sound of the crooners and warblers, but my husband really hates it, much too noisy for him (the karaōke starts @ 8:30 PM). 3) JJ’s is walking distance from the Vandenburg Esplanade, a beautiful paved walk alongside the Merrimack River. If it’s a nice day or evening, plan to walk along the river before or after dinner, or walk over the Roarke Bridge. Great views, very peaceful part of Lowell., strong romantic possibilities abound…

This place is a gastrointestinal assault of the highest order. Why does all the food have this appearance like it was just thawed out in the microwave?
To be fair, if you are eating in a joint that has a vinyl banner as their sign at the main entrance, maybe you shouldn’t expect much. Further still, if there is a beer logo on said sign that is more prominent than the actual name of the establishment, you should set your expectations lower still. Couple that with more focus on Keno than on the actual menu, then you start to realize what a lowlife place this is.
One star for the food, service, atmosphere, dense population of old people, etc. One other star for the cheap beer. The selection sucks, but you don’t pay a lot. So, you know, it has that going for it.
So in short, the food blows, the service is laughable and the atmosphere is pretty bland. But when a place has a huge Jaggerbomb banner hanging from their ultra cool outdoor patio area, what are you supposed to expect?!
Oh and on a side note… bring back the trolley.

I went to this place on a Sunday evening for dinner with my brother. They had a great comfort food type menu. Very much like eating at Grandma’s House (and that’s not cause the other patrons had a median age of 65).
Our waitress looked about 16… she was slow. She was nice and friendly… but just didn’t seem to be ‘there’ She disappeared to smoke a cigarette between the time she brought us our drinks and brought us our appetizer. Now she was gone for 10 minutes at least… and the potato skins we had looked like they came pre-​made from the freezer.
Same with the chicken tender basket i ordered too… I don’t know why a comfort food type place would not make them fresh. A bit pricey for what I had, and I felt like I was eating stuff right out of a freezer. The tenders were good, kind of spicy, I did like that.
The saving grace of this place, which i’m sure is just due to my own lack of interest in it, but while eating my brother and I played some Keno… and I might now have a keno problem. You pick some numbers watch the screen, etc. It’s kind of fun. I broke even so I can’t complain too much.
Oh! My brother had the prime rib, it apparently was wicked good, but wicked fatty. Not caring much for red meat, I wouldn’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
So yeah, try it out, you might find something you like, you might enjoy keno, you might just skip the meal all together and drink at their bar (my plan for next time)
