History

Established in 1973.

Started in Spokane Washington around 1900 as Empire Printing, then it was moved to Seattle and Western Typographers, Inc. was spun off. Had one of the finest collections of metal type in the city and state. 1973 Flo and Warren Funnell bought the Stock from Frank Smith. Computers and photographic typesetting was just in infancy, and we were in the top five type shops in Seattle. Then, in 1989, along came Mac. We converted to a small commercial quick print operation, and are still at it today.

Business Owner

First touched metal type (Yes, Virginia, it was lead) in Winnipeg Canada in 1952. The art of type and printing was as though I had been drugged. I loved my trade, and still am enamored with beautiful type and print. Moved to Seattle in 1961, and bought Western Typographers, Inc, in 1973. Grew to 25 people, shrunk to 5. With my wife, Flo (I call her Cash Flo), of 58 years, 42 of them in business together, we still are active in the business.
