White House Black Market

I went in WHBM today to find a grey dress to wear for a party. Since it is already spring I realized my chance in finding grey color dresses in the store was slim. Therefore I went straight and asked one of the employees just in case the store happened to have any. I asked this lady employee of the dress and she answered with a confused tone of voice and told me to go to David’s bridal instead. I decided to look around in the store and found a darker shade of gray dress in the sale section. I tried it on but it was too big and I went out to look for a smaller size. This same employee came out of the fitting room I was in with the dress in her hand and she then cut in front of me without even saying «excuse me» and hung the dress back. It was rude to say the most and I won’t be back to the WHBM alderwood mall.

Love love this store! It’s funny how I’m always in a Blaaa mood when I enter the store, but I always come out smiling. The entire staff is awesome and always helpful. My girlfriend turned me into this store and I’ve been addicted ever since. Although most of the clothes sell themselves it’s really the gals that work there that make me try on things that I would otherwise never try. I’ve shopped at other locations, but there’s just a little something special with the gals at Alderwood Mall that make it extra special.

I have been a loyal White House Black Market customer since I bought my first outfit there in December 2007. In fact, I haven’t bought a pair of jeans anywhere else in seven years. I’ve always loved being able to buy anything in my size and know that it was going to fit great, look lovely, and last for years, but the best part about WHBM has always been the service. From that first shopping trip, I have always found WHBM employees to be exceptionally helpful, have a great sense of style, and to be willing to go out of their way to help find the perfect outfit for any occasion. As a result of their customer service, I’ve spent thousands of dollars at WHBM over the years.
This store is an incredible departure from everything that I know about WHBM customer service! I stopped in after work on Friday, December 4^th, since I needed a nice new pair of jeans for a casual holiday party. After spending ten minutes wandering the store looking for jeans (which I couldn’t seem to find find), I finally tried asking someone at the registers for help. I stood there for another five minutes, while one employee (Claudia?) rang up a customer’s purchases and another employee did something on the other register. Neither employee had greeted me or even acknowledged that I was in the store. They weren’t very busy; in addition to the customer being rung up, there was only one other besides me, and she was wandering the store.
Finally, the employee without the customer (she had told Claudia that she was the MOD, since someone else was out) noticed me and said she hadn’t seen me standing there. She said she needed to finish what she was doing, and then she asked me what I needed. No smile; no friendliness at all. I told her I was looking for jeans, but that there didn’t seem to be any. She acted like I was an idiot for saying so and then proceeded to join in on a conversation about sales tax between the other employee and the customer being rung up.
After waiting four or five more minutes for her to help me, I finally told her that I could see that she was too busy to help, and I left. She didn’t even try to stop me. I went three doors down to the Gap and bought two pairs of jeans there instead. I will never go back to the Alderwood Mall White House Black Market.

I was looking for work clothes and decided to stop by in here. I havent been in before, but I think the service sucked. terribly. When I walked in, I was never greeted, the lady saw me walked in, made eye contact and pretended like I never walked in. I was looking around the store, still got nothing from her — I mean I was two feet away right? No «are you still finding everything ok?» Although she did ask the other gal next to me if she was still doing alright. Again, we made eye contact, still nothing, but for some reason she didn’t mind starting a conversation with the other people in the store. I mean this store is small, there were 3 customers. I think its part of your job to acknowledge the customers that contribute to your paycheck.
I had a lot of management experience including retail. If I was the manager I would remove her off the floor immediately and review some more customer service.

I am torn. I love their clothes, I hate their service. I’ve ordered a ton online and had to return some items — once they totally botched the return — didn’t get my money, had to call their online customer service where they straightened things out (BTW the online person said just go straight to them because the people in the store often mess things up). Another time the lady made snide remarks about making returns, etc. etc., totally turned me off from ever shopping there again — and I haven’t. Bye bye WHBM.

I do love this store. I always walk in thinking I’ll just have a look, but end up coming out with a few purchases. My biggest problem is narrowing down what I want so I don’t break the bank! The styles are fashionable and classic with a little flair mixed in. Their dresses fit me as if they were tailored, I don’t think I could get a better fit if I had one custom made! The sales ladies can be either really hands on or hands off, depending on their mood that day, i guess. But they are always friendly and helpful. On the days they are really hands on they will get a dressing room started for you, then start pulling tons of stuff for you to try on, including shoes. At first I found this to be annoying, but once I went with it, I actually found some great pieces that I wouldn’t have thought to try on otherwise. And take all the time you need, they never rush you in the dressing rooms. Fun shopping experience with cute clothes that will leave your bank account with a little whimper :) p. s. if you have a chance to visit their store in downtown Spokane, it’s awesome. Twice the size of the ones over here!

OK, so as a quick disclaimer, it’s unlikely that I’ll shop here anytime in the near future. The prices are, for the most part (but read below), quite a bit out of my price range. I often opt for second hand budget fashion items, but I’ve had such a great experience with the Christy’s (yep there are multiples) at the Lynnwood store that I felt compelled to write wonderful things about this store.
My best friend is getting married, so I ventured to WHBM to find my bridesmaid dress, but unfortunately they didn’t have my size. Christy #1 helped me find a dress with a similar fit in the right size, and then helped me place an order for my dress in the appropriate size (with free shipping). A few days later I noticed online that the price had been reduced by about $ 85. I called about a price adjustment and was thrilled to find from Christy #2 that they were a-​okay doing that for me. THEN, a few hours later, Christy #1 called me back to say that they forgot to mention that they’re currently running a 30% off special on their sale dresses. Wow! Thanks for calling me back, to save me some more money! In the end, I saved just over $ 100 on my bridesmaid dress, a really cute black number that will now be my go-​to LBD. (And it was such a steal!)
Overall, the store may be a bit out of my price range, but I’ve had such a great experience with this store that I wouldn’t hesitate to go back for a special occasion outfit and revisit Christy #1 and Christy #2.

I really love this store! The clothes are classic and you can always find something that you are looking for. I have the hardest time finding pants that fit me right, but at this store, I find jeans and dress pants that fit like a glove! The sales girls are always really friendly and helpful. And they won’t lie to you just to sell something… if something’s not right for you, they’ll let you know and suggest something that might work better. The prices are a bit higher than I normally spend, but the shopping experience is overall really excellent!
