The company collects, processes and transports thousands of tons of recyclable materials every year in Macedon NY and surrounding area. ALPCO was originally founded in 1960 and quickly evolved into the Upstate New York leader in commercial, industrial and residential recycling. This took place nearly 25 years before «recycling» became a familiar household phrase.

History
Established in 1964.
Alpco started as a family owned gravel business in 1962. Three years later in 1965 the company started converting open burning garbage dumps to sanitary landfills, Early in the 1970’s, while working in the landfills, we started pulling recyclable materials out of the landfills. We did not want to see everything buried in the landfills and decided to find other uses for the materials. and by 1975 the business started full scale recycling.
Alpco operated as a family business until 1989 at which time Alton Plumb Jr. purchased the company and began doing strictly recycling and waste hauling, which we continue to do today. Alpco’s most innovative service to date is the full service residential drop off center. The philosophy behind the drop off center is based on providing financial incentive for homeowners to recycle.
