I seem to give lots of 5 stars. Caveat — unless something warrants a demerit, I give 5 stars. A tavern is a tavern. A white table cloth restaurant is a white table cloth restaurant. A tavern should not be compared to a white table clothed restaurant. The Pirates Pub and Grub is a boardwalk place to get a sandwich and beer. We had chicken wings, wine and beer outside while the waitress explained the deep water fishing boat that was coming in as we were being served. The view was of the water and passers-by. Service was good, wings were hot and beer and wine were cold. What more could we ask? The Pirates Pub and Grub is pub and grub. They don’t claim anything else. Hence, 5 stars.

I give this place 5 stars because we had amazing service with a very down to earth and funny waitress who acted like she had known us forever and on top of that our food was absolutely delicious. I got the blackened grouper tacos and my boyfriend got the lobster roll. I would go back if I got the chance.

Brought my kids down to John’s Pass the Sunday after Christmas and we were looking for a quick bite to eat and stopped in to Pirates Pub and Grub and just happened to be able to get a seat right away. This is a small place and we happened to time this just right as it filled up pretty quickly while we were there. The place is small and nothing fancy but the food was good and our server was great. I had a burger that was very tasty good size, my one daughter had chicken tenders and my other daughter has a calamari basket. The only downside was that fries with the burger were a $ 2 up charge and the portion was very small.

My family and I loved this place. Shrimp po boy was amazing with the boom boom sauce. Service was great! I would suggest this to all families.

Nice spot for lunch. Can sit inside or out and enjoy the docks. Staff is über friendly and efficient. Food is good. Conch fritters were excellent. Burger very good. Oyster po boy was massive. This is the place where you will get decent food at a fair price — unlike that Run Forest, Run down the boardwalk or other corporate America microwave establishments.

SODELICIOUS. It is tradition for us to go here every time my boyfriends grandma and aunt come to town and we hit it whenever we are in johns pass. Their fries are so uniquely tasty and the fish taco are really really good! Love the décor and the service:)

Was looking forward to the hugh hamburger, boy was I surprised, and so was my friend who had bragged about the burger. Guess they can’t handle lots of traffic.

This is my first review so bare with me, I went with my parents here for dinner, we were looking for an inexpensive place to eat at the boardwalk and all the locals recommended this place, so we went for it. And let me tell you something we did not regret it one bit. For starters our waitress Jessica was absolutely amazing, she was very helpful and sweet. As a appetizer we ordered the gator nugget basket, which I highly recommend. And I ordered the Po’ boy, as everybody else recommended including Jessica. Let me tell you something, when ever I would order a Po’ boy, the other restaurants always managed to screw up a Po’ boy. But here it was FUCKING amazing. Whether its the shrimp, gator, or clam strip, they all taste amazing, would highly recommend that one too. The bad thing is, that its a small bar so if you have a large group you may have trouble getting seats. As for alcohol, I wouldn’t know since I don’t drink. It may look like another shitty tourist trap place, but its not. So overall if you want a decent sized amount food for a great price I would highly recommend this place.

We went here for dinner tonight. Very small restaurant area but big enough for a party of 8. It is a pirate themed restaurant with a friendly staff. At first glance it looks like anothertourist trap at johns pass. Once you sit down you will be greeted with a friendly face and a great selection of entrees. Nothing special here just great bar good. Good burgers strong drinks and amazing fries. One thing I will recommend highly is the deep sea shrimp withtjeempura batter and spicy Thai dipping sauce. Not on the menu but ask for it. Big juicy plump shrimp and amazing dipping sauce. Burgers were probably better than most restaurant around that area and are cooked perfectly. I suggest the pirate burger. Only complaint is service was a bit slow but hey when your at the beach time doesn’t matter. Was worth the wait. would highly recommend this place. If You want a nice refreshing stuff drink ask for the lava flow.

Good food. Had awesome lobster roll and fries were excellent. Great lunch. Pub and pirate theme was entertaining. Provided a nice cool place to rest before proceeding back into the Florida summer heat.

Best place we have been all vacation! The gator nuggets are excellent, and my husband loved his lobster roll. The kids(ages 10, 7, &2) were entertained the whole time by the décor! The wait staff were excellent. The bartender was super nice and greeted us warmly. Our waitress was excellent with our kiddos, catering to their craziness, and even coming out to see us off on the pirate cruise. She went above and beyond. We can’t wait to come back!

The food was okay at best. The beer options were so-so. It was about what you’d expect from a touristy area closest to the beach: lots of fried food and many beers on tap. Service was really slow, even though the place seemed empty on a Saturday afternoon. We were kind of disappointed with the hush puppies, the grouper platter, and the coconut shrimp(I think they served the shrimp with orange marmalade). Stick with the Goose Island IPA and the fish and chips and you’ll be just fine.

Fantastic! Don’t let the name of this place deter you. Clean, great customer service, perfect little atmosphere, and very fresh, delicious food! The lobster roll and coleslaw are soooo good! They are great about food allergies too! Perfect place to come in for a cold beverage and yummy lunch!

Let me preface this with a few facts. I am a local. Not a transplant local but born and raised here local. I have lived on Madeira Beach specifically for 5 years. I have eaten just about everywhere you can eat in and around Johns Pass and let me say there are(sadly) VERY few good restaurants to eat at. Why? Because tourists don’t know any better, they are happy with a nice water view and mediocre food. Most restaurants relish in this fact. Again, sad. Pirates Pub and Grub is a little diamond in the rough. Good food, good service, lots of beer. If you don’t like their food, I can’t help you, you most likely will not find ANYWHERE on or near Johns Pass that you will like. It’s THAT bad around here. Give the place a try, I love supporting the places that actually work hard at trying to not be another crappy tourist trap, you hear me «The Hut», «Delosas», «Friendly Fishermen», «Hooters» and«Bubba Gumps»??? Overpriced, crap. Support Pirates Pub & Grub.

Came here on a whim last night with friends. The mushroom swiss burger was perfectly prepared and very tasty. The server had a great sense of humor and was very attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Took the family here for dinner and was very happy with the food and service. I enjoyed the black & bleu burger, while other members of our family enjoyed the wings, fried shrimp, and pirate burger. I only had complaint… How can the Pirates pub and grub not have Captain Morgan? They carried a generic spiced rum instead? I know I’m nit picking on a personal pet peeve here, but if you are only going to carry one spiced rum at a pirate pub shouldn’t it be the gold standard? Overall, a good experience.

My family and I visited because of the reviews… and we were not impressed. The waitresses were down to earth and beer was cold, but no orange with the Shocktop. However, we ordered nachos and definitely regret it. They were easily the worst nachos I’ve ever had… plain cheese, no flavor, borderline stale chips, and little toppings. In my opinion, try other restaurants in the area. That’s what I’m doing while writing this review.

Even though our taxi driver said that there wasn’t many alligators at this end of Florida(more in Miami area), we had to try alligator meat during this visit. I’ve had alligator meat before when I visited Miami/Fort Lauderdale, and it was a lot juicer, bigger, tastier than the ones that I had here. The popcorn alligator was too tiny with more batter than the meat itself. The meat was a lot«fishier» than from waht I remembered. The shrimp po’ boy sandwich was really good… but I thought it was too small to satisfy my hunger, especially for the price I paid. Food was alright, but I loved the décor of the place. Reminded me of being at Disneyland in my lovely home of California. Out of all the places to check out at John’s Pass, I would definitely recommend this place, especially when you’re trying to avoid from the scorching heat!

Pirates has more than the typical beach cheeseburgers and fries. We ordered a black and blue burger and a philly cheesesteak with fries. Both were good, not spectacular or anything that WOW’d me, but hit the spot. My philly came out HOT, HOT, HOT. NOT complaining though! It’s good to know that it’s hot off the grill. And that helped keep it warm til the very end, especially since we were sitting outside. Our waitress was friendly, which is great so as not to ruin anyone’s beach day mood.
