Hillestad Heating and Cooling. I cannot praise this company enough! They are efficient, friendly, cost effective and trustworthy. They come on time, do a fantastic job, clean up and leave! All the employees are professtional, knowledgeable and friendly. We have a 90 year old home. Jeff Markgraf helped us with a new hot water boiler system in winter of 2014 and central air in 2016. I never thought central air was a possibility because of the boiler system. But Hillestad made it happen and at a fair price. I am thrilled to be comfortable in all seasons in our 90 year old home! We bought a new furnace with humidifier from Hillestad in 2013 which has never given us a moment’s trouble. Our salesperson, Jeff, was terrific, as was everyone we worked with back then. Now, here’s how above and beyond Jeff is even 3 years later. I heard a funny noise that I thought might be coming from the heating and air conditioning system, although it was coming (I thought) from the attic. I called Jeff to ask if he’d heard of something like that happening before. He said no, but he’d drop by on his way home from work to check it out for me. It wasn’t the furnace or air conditioner, but he helped me figure out what it was (I only had to turn a switch to make it stop!) and saved me a lot of grief and money in the process. My boiler went out over the weekend. And appreciate them being there for help me. But I didn’t expect to pay almost $ 800 for $ 169.00 part to be installed. That’s just not right! I even went to Madison office to discuss bill all it was a garage on the south side of town.

Expert, quick, and honest. Our air conditioner broke on one of the first hot days of the summer, and their repairman, Jason Lewis, was there in two hours. More importantly, he found the problem quickly, and even better, explained we could bypass the faulty part and avoid a hefty repair bill without compromising safety. He reviewed the system to make sure there were no other problems that had caused the part to fail, and recommended we upgrade our air filter system ourselves, even giving us the correct system to order on-​line. He even noticed we don’t wear shoes indoors and took his off.
Highest recommendation! Will call on them again for any HVAC work.

Dan at Hillestad came out a quoted replacing two furnaces and two air conditioning units in our house. He also recommended installing two wireless thermostats that connected to the internet. Excellent communication and professionalism. Couldn’t be happier with our choices.

WOW… here’s my story of Hillestad.
So in June, I bought my «new» home. It was noted at closing that my furnace didn’t work, so my realtor called Hillestad to have it checked out. The tech found the problem and charged a small sum of money to fix it.
I never really knew what they did to correct the problem, as I left it up to my realtor to get the furnace in good order.
Being on the dawn of winter, I called Hillestad to set up a fall service of my furnace as I’ve no clue if, or when, the previous owners serviced the thing. I called the Lodi office and a very nice woman answered. She explained that in June, the tech serviced the furnace as part of the repair process to get my furnace up and running. WOW. She said there was no need to have the service done at this point, but in the spring I should have the a/​c and furnace serviced at that time. «No need to spend your money now» she said.
I can’t believe how honest these folks were. I’d never had good experiences with HVAC repairs (see my review of another Madison HVAC company), but I will ALWAYS call Hillestad if needed in the future. They could have taken my money and I would have never known I didn’t need any work. Their honesty has earned my future business.

I just want to say thanks to the guys at Hillestad for going above and beyond to help me. I have a 8 year old Veridian home that the AC unit died on — and which wasn’t covered by warranty anymore. I called around to do my «due dilligence» and everyone was at about the same price for replacement. The person I talked to on the phone was so helpful, as he was able to work out a scenario where we came out about $ 400 less then everyone else. He then went out of his way to shuffle their busy schedule to get my repair done 2 days later even though they had a 3 week back-​log (busy time of year). What a God send. The 2 people that came and did the install were very professional — they even worked outside during a complete downpour of a thunderstorm to get the job done. Talking about dedication! I have had 2 other HVAC companies come to my house prior to this for service work — and they didn’t left me with the feeling that they were trying to take advantage of my situation. Hillestad demonstrated that they really go out of their way to do the right thing.
