History

Established in 1996.

Tushar Patel opened On a Roll in downtown Madison, New Jersey on August 22, 1996 with the desire to share his passion for cooking with the local community. Starting up a gourmet deli and catering business provided him with the perfect outlet for the culinary skills he had developed while growing up in a family that emphasized home-​style cooking. Tushar, with the help of On a Roll’s staff, provides fresh gourmet food served fast and is committed to maintaining the high standards he has set for himself and the dishes he serves.

As the business has grown so has the menu, which now offers a wide variety of gourmet appetizers and entrees in addition to the classic and creative in-​house menu. Both menus feature flavors from around the world inspired by the cuisines Tushar has sampled on his travels through the States and abroad.

Business Owner

Tushar Patel was born in India in 1972 and raised in Irvington and Union, NJ. He grew up in a home where his parents frequently prepared meals together. These home-​cooked meals, which encouraged everyone to get involved with the preparation, led Tushar to associate cooking with family, something that is evident in his business even today.

Tushar opened On a Roll: Gourmet Deli and Caterer on August 22, 1996. He strives to use local ingredients as frequently as possible and provides customers with only the freshest samples of his cuisine. His geniality and genuine care for customers, as well as his dedication to maintaining the high quality of his food, naturally suit his position as host and proprietor of On a Roll and play a large part in keeping his customers coming back for more.

Tushar believes the greatest reward of his work to be the wonderful expressions on people’s faces when they taste his food. He creates original food you’ll want to share with the people you love.
