Select Home Warranty

They are terrible! I have a furnace that should have been covered under the warranty, but since I couldn’t find the maintenance records, they aren’t covering it. I have only lived in my house for three months and the furnace has lasted 31 years. They are trying to pawn it off on that it wasn’t well maintained, but it doubled the life span of average furnaces. Most furnaces last 15 years. This will turn into a class action lawsuit. Please join me.

HORRIBLE customer service, refuses to pay, every person you talk to tells you a different story. We’ve made a few claims and they won’t ever fix the problem, are RUDE on the phone and have terrible business practices.
DO NOT USE!!! Waste of your money

I requested a quote from them and decided not to use the company and they will not quit calling me despite asking them at least 6 times to stop. Bottom line do not give them information as they will not leave you alone.

You’re better off paying a little more for a much better home warranty. Not worth a cent. They require 3 years worth of maintenance receipts to assist with HVAC replacement. I’ve only owned my home for 2 years, so I have 2 years worth of receipts. They offered only a very tiny reimbursement, not worth the paper it was written on.

Seems like a predatory company. I was doing a quick search on Google about warranty services and they some how got my number. It was either off Angie’s list, or consumerreviews, or homewarrantyreviews (probably this one). I have yet to figure out how they did it, but they called me saying I had requested information. The odd thing is I didn’t fill anything out, if anything I may have accidentally clicked on a link. I told the man after he called twice (left vm the first time, then called an hour later) that I had not requested info, asked him how he got my info (he said I made a request and the time it was done), and asked him to please remove me from his call list. This was yesterday. Today I get a promotional text message. I know of no better way to lose my business than marketing me by phone. Clearly the guy got upset when I asked to be removed from a call list (even though I asked politely) and he’s added me to promotional lists now.

Terrible. Dishonest. Will take your money, charge you for people to come out and look and then find bull crap reasons to deny any and every claim. They are the worst.

Do your research and pay attention to the negative reviews! If you find a positive Review on Select Home Warranty, it is most likely a paid review. You will note that many of the reviews are all posted on the same day/​week. Their business model is very simple: Sell a very cheap warranty and then work really hard to avoid paying for any warranty service. Read the terms and conditions very closely.
My personal experience:
I read all the positive reviews and thought I would give them a try. I called and spoke to Mark, who offered me a killer deal on a warranty which included a ton of additional appliances, a pool, etc. After submitting payment and reading the contract, I had requested some changes to the terms since they differed from our verbal discussion. It took Mark a week to reply and he failed to address the specific condition we were concerned with. I called to discuss this, and he became belligerent and very disrespectful. I informed that I would like to cancel the warranty since I was within the 30 day period. He was irate and transferred me «retention dept» (Aaron). I explained the conditions that we did not like and also Mark’s attitude. He assured me that he would remove the condition stipulations, and that Mark should have not acted that way. He also said that «nobody in customer service would act that way». However, by this point I was already frustrated with the all issue and told him to please cancel. Aaron also became very hateful, lectured me about warranties, and then hung up right after saying «fine, your warranty is cancelled».

We bought a home warranty contract from this company for our new house in Williamsburg, VA. When the ice maker in our sub-​zero freezer quit working we called and asked for it to be repaired. We paid $ 60.00 for the contractor to come out and tell us it needs to be replaced. The company would never approve the replacement because they said the contractor had not submitted a diagnosis. The contractor said he had called them twice and they would not call him back. He told me I needed to get the replacement approved, which I tried to do, but was repeatedly told nothing can be done until the diagnosis is submitted. Two months later, still no action, a classic … «he said, she said». I have cancelled the contract and have a qualified Sub-​zero repairman coming out on Monday. I will never use this firm again and suggest you find another, more legitimate provider.

they are the complete worst company! Not helpful in any sense of the word. If I could give negative stars for their customer service then I would give negative 5 stars. I bought a new home and the previous owner bought a home warranty policy for me as part of the contract so it wasn’t my choice to use them.
Per their warranty contract you cannot put in a claim for an item unless 90 days has passed after they receive payment for the warranty or the effective date, whichever comes later. that means if you buy their warranty for a year the first 3 months are useless and you cant even put in a claim! that’s a fourth of what you are paying for! that is only 1 example of how bad of a company they are. there is not enough characters in this review for me to explain how bad their customer service is.

By far the worst customer service I have experienced amongst all companies to date!
Before you read the details below I want to make some pointers for all who don’t like long reviews.
1) Worst customer service
2) Contract is totally lop-​sided to their own benefit.
3) Cancelation works in their favor and not customers as they collect most of the money in the initial months.
4) Rude, obnoxious reps on the phone.
5) Please read the fine print carefully as most basic parts of appliances are not covered.
6) Don’t expect to receive any refunds/​pro rated cancelation payments from them as I never did!
7) Policy Cancelation at any time is $ 125 no matter whose fault.
I had Select home warranty for both my rental property and my home in Northern VA. Not only do their coverage absolutely sucks, but they also don’t pay you back the money they owe you.
I canceled both my policies back in November 2015 and I am yet to receive my pro-​rated refund.
I have called them 5 – 6 times, emailed them but all they say is that your check will be mailed within 7 days. IT’S BEEN 8 MONTHS!
For my rental property I paid $ 1000 for 3 years of «Platinum» coverage and the very nicely offered 6 extra months of coverage at no extra cost. But please keep in mind that the payments is pro-​rated this way and will never work in your favor if you cancel after sometime. They treat the policy as a 1 year policy and pro-​rated payments are accrued in the first 12 months. So if let’s say you cancel after 6 months you will only get half your money back i.e. $ 500. Consumer would think that at the minimum pro-​rated refund should be calculated as $ 1000 over the period of 36 months as they state in the beginning so ideally you should get $ 1000 divided by 36 months … BUT NO Your up-​front payment is eaten into super quick!
My home warranty — my microwave broke after one months of coverage and they told me that the cost to fix the microwave is more than replacement, so we can pay you for replacement of your microwave. I went ahead and bought the same microwave, and only then they told me that «oh… we are sorry, but we can only refund $ 125 and not the entire cost of the microwave, and that too after $ 45 deductible!!!
And on top of that I NEVER received that refund check!!! I kept calling them and all they told me that we will send it within a week over and over again!
Guys please don’t even think about going for this company for your warranty needs. They are the absolute worst out there!

At a high price, I recently learned that Select Home Warranty does not cover standard items that all other major home warranty companies cover. I have a standard leak in my evaporator coil – something that any other home warranty company would cover; however, Select Home Warranty excludes that common issue from coverage. Their coverage is horrible, their service providers are unreliable, and their customer service stinks.

Do not use this company! Here is their scam… they sell you a policy that covers whatever you want covered. Then when you have a problem, they find a reason not to cover it. We had 2 problems one was the garbage disposal, well they wouldn’t cover a garbage disposal with the certain horsepower that our garbage disposal had. Our second problem was our pool pump after 4 days trying to get them to respond they said there was a cap and they would only cover a small portion of the the amount it cost. We were stupid and did not read the reviews first, we have now cancelled. Also be aware of the fact that companies can pay to be on the «top 10» lists of some so called consumer review websites. So be careful of that.

Horrible Customer Service, this is when I am shopping for a Home warranty. Wonder what will happen once you are their customer.
Spoke to 4 different associate, all of them gave different story and different $$ amount for the same coverage. they are rude as hell.

Believe the other reviewers and Stay Away. I found out too late that Select Home Warranty is a 3^rd party lead generator service.
I bought a 2 yr. home warranty for $ 700 in Nov. 2014, used it twice in 2015, cancelled it in March 2016. Got a $ 33 refund.

This company is a SCAM! Do NOT even consider a policy from them. I was told I could cancel the policy and get a prorated refund without paying any early cancellation or termination fees. I was told that when I bought the policy and when I canceled the policy. Three months later I’m still waiting for my refund check. Today, I finally got a customer service rep to answer my call and I was told they deducted a $ 75 cancellation fee so I ended up getting an eight dollar refund! I paid $ 375. for 7 months of coverage and NEVER FILED A CLAIM! I’m not even sure this company is in the US because every person I’ve spoken to has had a foreign accent. Shame on this companies for being so dishonest!
Shame on me for trying to save a few bucks!

Hmm, not real sure about them, My friend has them also and she is having lots of issues with them. Appears they are hard to deal with. I just called because my counter top cracked and yep, you guessed it’s Not Covered under the policy we took out. I would have left another star but unfortunately, it appears our neighbor just cancelled their policy with them because of them not covering something. If I had to do it again, I’d probably go with Home Shield.

This company is a real scam. Please stay away from them. Most of items are not either covered or they will find a way to avoid paying you. I have had several incidents where they promised me to reimburse for the repairs but never received the payments.
STAY AWAY. I WISH I CAN GIVE 0 STARS.

Select Home Warranty will gladly take your money for a year long contract, but will never honor your request when needed. They will find loophole after loophole. I will say this is partially my fault, but listen to this:
In April of 2015 I signed a year long contract of service for our home. Loophole #1: There is a 90 day clause where you cannot make a claim (if I only knew). On day 88 of the contract, our clothes washer malfunctions and I call the service for repair. Easy enough, the repairman arrives, says the washer is «done broke» and will submit the claim to Select Home Warranty. A couple days later, I get a reply that this is not covered by their service because of the 90 day clause. Careful of those loopholes. I was handed a $ 150 check, minus the $ 75 service call fee. A new washer costs $ 1,000. Do the math.
Fast forward to March 2016. We have a minor leak in our automatic hot water dispenser in the sink. I call Select Home Warranty to file a claim for repair. A loophole states the service is not covered as it is technically «not a faucet» even though it is tied into our plumbing system. I am left to fend for myself again.

Can I give — 1,000,000 star? Unilocal needs to create negative star scale for companies like this.
They are nice on the phone and their customer service isn’t hard to reach. I usually can get someone on the phone within a min or two.
Now, when you need to get a check from them, the hell gate opens wide and sucks you in.
They would send out a contractor for repairs, and asks you to pay out of your pocket. They promise you to reimburse the money right away. Yeah, we believed it.
I called, talked to a manager and was told to send in the refund form signed along with the invoice. I did. A month later, no check yet. Called again, and now the rep says «sorry, we haven’t received your form. please send it again.» So, there I was… so innocent and naïve. Sent the form and the invoice again. A month goes by, still no check. So, what do I do? CALL AGAIN. and what do I get? «Oh, no, sorry, we haven’t received your form. Please send it again. We will expedite your refund as soon as we get the form.»… then I realized…
Well, I hate being lied to, but hey… who knows, maybe they really did not receive my form for 3 FREAKING TIMES… So I sent it again. This time, as soon as I send my form via email, I called the customer service and demand that they go check and see if they received my email with the forms. They put me on hold a few minutes and told me that they got my email and the forms.
I don’t know if I will receive my check this time, but at least they will have to be a bit more creative since they can’t use the same lie next time I call them.

I was doing some shopping around for home warranties and requested a quote from Select. They called me three times the next day while I was at work and left voicemails every time. They called me again in the evening and then three times the next morning. I understand you want to make sales, but you must realize sometimes people are busy.
I decided to call them since I had some free time and when as soon as I uttered the words «I don’t think I want to buy right now-​» I heard a click. I thought maybe it was a mistake and called back.
I called back five different times, and every time I told them that I wasn’t going to buy right now but might in the future I got hung up on. I finally told someone I was really disappointed and upset with their customer service and it does not make me want to return to them for service in the future. I got a click.
I don’t care what company you are but if your policy is to hang up on someone because they may not want to buy your service at that exact moment in time, you are not a good company. Good customer service begets a potential customer. I may not have wanted one today but they never let me finish my sentence to say I am thinking about getting one next month and can I get a quote. I don’t want a quote from them, I don’t want their phone calls, and I certainly don’t want their service if this is how they’re going to treat me or anyone else.
