99 Asian Supermarket

The lady in the meat department (the one who chops meat) was very mean to customers. She said mean things to me and if i were the store owner, i would correct her before losing more customers. There are many Asian stores in the area, we don’t need to go to super 99 to be «lectured» by a meat cutter like this lady.

I have never seen so many local Northern India specialty products in one place. Wish the staff was customer engaging. Would love to gave know what some the amazing items were I saw.

The nicest Chinese supermarket in Boston. I love the food court there. The downside is that it’s kinda far from the highway and main street. The supermarket is clean, but not the cleanest.

Large Asian market north of Boston! Probably one of the larger markets for Vietnamese groceries in the area outside of Dorchester. Also the meat, seafood and produce is very fresh. The prices were reasonable. Having the food court is so convenient.

Good selection of Asian groceries. Came here on a late night before closing so most of the produce was gone, but it was not crowded.
Prices are pretty good considering the region and hard to find Asian spices or whatever can most likely be found in this store that would not be in a Shaws or Market Basket.

Probably my favorite Asian supermarket in the area. Cleaner and fresher groceries than other places; nice selection of noodles and frozen items as well. Small adjoining food court is convenient. Cashier was a little gruff.

The store is large, relatively clean and organized, and the prices are reasonable. However, there are too many foods from Mainland China.
Considering that 40% of surface water is polluted in Mainland, the soil pollution is so severe that its data is regarded as state secret, and multitude of food safety issues, I have no choice but shunning foods imported from Mainland China. I went there to get some foods from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, etc., but it turned out to be more challenging than I expected. Some isles are largely filled with items from the Mainland.
BTW, I grew up in Mainland and still have relatives there. They try to get their foods from other countries (e.g. rice) or from sources that they know well.
I really hope they can get more non-​Mainland foods.

No real complaints about this Chinese Supermarket.
Yesterday we stopped in after shopping in the area and I have to say that we actually loved this supermarket. Some of the high points were their selection of fresh seafood and meat as well as their decent selection of hard to find fruits. When it came to their other merchandise, I thought that they had an incredible selection at reasonable prices.
The only true complaints I had were around the service and parking lot. The service here was a bit lackluster and it seems like the staff has limited tolerance for questions. Additionally, the parking lot was a mess and we almost got hit twice.
In the end, I loved this place and will be back, but I will make sure that we come prepared with limited questions.

Thank goodness there is another Asian market in Malden! The only down side is that it’s not closer to me. I was getting fed up by other markets ripping me off with unfair prices. Their prices are fair and affordable. I was pleasantly surprised by the volume and selection of inventory they had. It was pretty clean until you get to the fruit isles. There were fruit flies swarming. I was surprised to find that they had Bonito powder, which I heard is difficult to obtain in other places. For all those Asian snack and instant noodle lovers, there is a pretty competitive selection (banana flavored pooky, jelly cups, and sweet snacks). I also noticed four little shops within the market that sold food. My next trip will involve roasted duck and ramen.

They are clean and have a huge selection of things at very reasonable prices. Also, they sell a lot of crazy seafood, like live conch, live frog, live clam, kinda-​live eel, live fish, and live turtle. You could save a turtle today by coming here and buying it, lest it get boiled by some dude who wants turtle soup, which is a food that apparently promotes longevity in parts of Asia. In other parts of the world, it’s just turtle soup.

Friendly, good price, a lot of choice. I love this place. Highly recommend. Also the food court of there is good too.

Product and food court is good, have variety of products. Sadly, unless you speak full canto, you will get no real help. Service from the market workers are bad. They will not help you where products are and they pretend they don’t understand you. They behave defensively and accuse you being wrong and argue when their product are placed on the wrong area (she moved the boxes when she had to show me where it «was») I legit have to tell the lady to calm down that I understood what she said and it was a stocking error, but instead she stated that I was arguing and interrupted me. If you know what you’re shopping for and avoid some of the workers, it’s a good place to shop for Asian groceries.

A co-​worker told me that there was a new Asian market in Malden so I had to check it out. This is a pretty new Asian market for the multiplying Asian population in communities North of Boston. It’s cleaner than the Super 88 and the selection is enormous! The aisles are well organized, You can find items from just about any Asian country. The produce is a bit slim. The seafood and meat areas are well stocked. There is a small food court but didn’t really check it out — maybe next time. But if you need to pick up some Asian products, you should give this market a try.

This market is named 99 because it was located at Route 99. It probably had no correlation with super 88.
Food court:
Very clean and there is a person wiping down tables all the time. Not too much variety in the food court, and definitely not enough ppl on the Saturday I went so it was not lively like the one Burlington Hmart and Brighton super 88. Didn’t like my drumstick with white rice, somewhat undercooked when cut in the middle.
Market:
Like the fact that the aisles have plenty of space and there’s not much people. It’s somewhat the same as Ming s market at south end Boston except this place has higher ceilings and brighter. I would say their stuff is well organized and have pretty much the same Asian brands that you can find in other Chinese markets. Have less variety in comparison.

Nice brand new supermarket. The name is really funny one upping 88 by being 99. It is big and cold like a Super 88 but had better prices and inventory that reminded me of Ming’s (now NY Mart).
I will be going back for sure and bringing my sweatshirt.

Hurray. Finally an alternative to 88 and Hmart.
It was quiet (on Easter Sunday), but it is extremely clean (for a Chinese Supermarket) and I found some hard-​to-​find Sichuan hotpot sauce brand spices. Even the vegetables weren’t junk — Watch out other markets.
Hopefully this place can keep it up. It is close enough to my home.

This 5 star rating is for the supermarket only. I haven’t tried anything in the food court yet, so I can’t really comment on that but I did notice that there is a Vietnamese phở and banh mi place, a Chinese BBQ place, a Japanese sushi and ramen place, and then a place that serves select Chinese dishes, including Hainan chicken, which I’ve heard rave reviews for already.
I live in Watertown, but my mom resides in Malden. I normally visit my parents once a month, but since this market has opened up, I’ve been trying to get over to Malden once every two to three weeks to do my Asian food shopping. It truly is amazing, the selection and the aisles are definitely spacious. We need more Chinese supermarkets like this one! It doesn’t have the allure of HMart, but 99 Asian Supermarket definitely rivals in selection and pricing.
The packaged raw meats section is spectacular. Last week, I got my hands on a good looking package of beef bones which turned into an amazing beef vegetables soup. I’ve also tried the short ribs for making kalbi, the lean spareribs for making black bean spareribs, the pork bones for making rice porridge, and their chicken wings for making Chinese «salt baked» chicken wings. All came out fine. I’ve had bad experiences with purchasing oxtails and short ribs from certain Chinese supermarkets and try to avoid buying more than one package when I’m first trying them out. Right now, I have some frozen thinly sliced beef and have frozen some fresh shrimp that I bought last week. I can’t wait to try them out to see if they are to my liking.
Coming here is much better than going to New York Supermarket — formerly Ming’s because the parking is right in front. I feel like the selection, spaciousness of the aisles, and friendliness of the staff at 99 Asian far exceeds what you get at New York Supermarket. Even my my mom’s friend, who lives in Somerville, prefers coming to Malden now, than driving into Boston Chinatown. We would LOVE to get a market like this one out in Metro West.

I could NOT believe mine eyes when I saw this Supermarket appear on the Unilocal machine. A little piece of California here in Boston-​ish? Sweet!
They were just setting up the café/​restaurant arcade when I ventured out in mid-​January 2015. Like 99 Ranch Market out west it is clean and well maintained.
Like back out west, none of the staff speak English well.
As I was planning on making Dan Dan Noodles from scratch I needed help finding ingredients (unfortunately, my Mandarin reading level is grade 0.0). I needed allll the help I could get, but despite the kindness of the associates, I got nowhere. I ended up having to figuring out everything for myself.
Despite the extra time I spent googling and deciphering, I found everything. This place is damn well stocked. I will be back.

Great new Asian market in Malden! Just opened recently and my parents were already raving about it.
There is a small food court when you walk in with two restaurant stands so far. I think one has noodles and the other is Chinese food. Also to the right when you walk in is another food stand with Vietnamese goodies. The Banh Bot Loc was delicious. I didn’t get anything else from there, but they make Banh Mi. had fried egg rolls, banh bao and a bunch of other things.
The market itself is great. It’s large in size, organized and very CLEAN! The aisles are large so you won’t get cramped up if there is a large abundance of shoppers. The lighting is also great.
The seafood market and butcher had a large selection of fresh meat and seafood. We saw them delivering the crab when we were there Saturday afternoon.
Hopefully this market will stay clean (unlike the other Asian market in Malden with mice. yikes!).

I was just here last night! I am soooo ecstatic that this opened up! I found more than everything I was looking for. Usually, I have to go to Hmart to get some things then 88 market to get other things I needed but this market had EVERYTHING! An A++ for me!
Btw, aisles were big and spacious and everything was stacked neatly. Maybe because not much people know about it yet but still, loved it!
