Modern on the Rails

The Pepsi was really good and I asked for coke. But the food was delicious. I like their rice balls it tasted like benson he. I love the waiters also. And their hair. It gets me exited.

Two stars for atmosphere and good service. However, in the end it’s the food that matters and this place does not have good food. They couldn’t make a simple dish of chicken Marsala. Sent back twice and they couldn’t send out a tender piece of chicken. Their Caesar salad smells like the bottom of the ocean. Their pasta is precooked and the pizza is burnt cracker. You can get a better meal at your local pizzeria. Good place to grab a quick drink but not a good meal. Many great chefs don’t have the money to open a restaurant and this place pawns off low grade food.

I had my graduation dinner at modern on the rails a couple of days ago, I called 30 minutes ahead and asked for outside seating. The host advised the outside was not completely ready but he could still accommodate us. We were a party of ten and one toddler. The bartender took care of us, whose name I can’t remember, he was great! Food was amazing, we had various appetizers and I still can’t stop thinking about the spicy mozzarella platter and that cold house Sangria, it was beyond this world, entrees were delicious as well, most of us had pasta, everyone was happy with their food.

Came here on a recommendation and was highly impressed with the level of attentiveness everyone showed. We were seated right away and Chris made sure to provide his suggestions and explanations of the menu. My water glass never went less than half full and our drinks and food were served promptly. The garlic bread bruschetta is to die for. My fiancé had the rigatoni with broccoli rabe and sausage and I had the Chicken Valdostana special. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back!

Love the original Modern Pizza and the re-​birth location in New Rochelle rocks as well. However, I was pretty disappointed with this Mamaroneck location /​Modern on the Rails. Not true to Moderns form we had unimpressive service, our waiter had an excuse every time he missed a time line, waited to order, waited when I asked for water, waited way to long for our entrees, each time an excuse!
The food was marginal, I orders chicken parm and it was pretty rubbery. My sister had Marsala and she thought the same. Simply, no one in our party was wow’d!
Last, the restaurant was drafty cold they claimed to have shut the air off, but the air flow remained through out our meal.
The only reason for the 3^rd star is we had a manager who knew we weren’t happy and authentically tried to help alleviate the draft and seemed concerned about our well being.

Modern on the rails was a great surprise! I came back from the train and got takeout to bring home for dinner. The dinner was quite tasty!
The takeout order was in a pizza box which made it very easy to carry.
The order:
Bolognese pasta –5
Meatballs with ricotta side — 4
Chicken with peppers — 4.5 (parents like it but I don’t eat bell peppers)

Great brunch for all you can eat and drink. Convenient from the train and the staff is excellent and attentive. Never needed to ask for a refill.
If you’re at the bar ask for a key lime pie martini, it was amazing

I was excited to try Modern on the Rails since I had been to Modern in New Rochelle several times and had a great experience.
I made reservations for 8:15 and when my husband and I walked in it was clearly very busy. We were told our table would be a few minutes which was no problem, we would happily wait at the bar until our table was ready. After checking with the hostess several times, two rounds of drinks, and still no table by 9:00pm I was frustrated that we had not been seated yet. The hostesses were apologetic, and they finally came to the bar to get us seated.
The table that we were seated at was arguably the worst seat in the house. We were wedged between two tables in a space where my husband could not even fit through. To top it off, the couple next to us had to lift their table with food and drinks on it so that we could get to our seat. Not the romantic dinner I had hoped for.
Additionally, we had to ask TWICE for bread to be put on our table. It was 9:30 before we even had bread ! The bread was the only good thing, and I think my perception was skewed because I was hungry. I ordered oysters, littlenecks and clams and my husband had the chicken parm. The chicken was mediocre, and I felt queasy when I got home.
There were no conciliations for the service, needless to say I will not be back. So disappointing.
I have never written a review and felt compelled to do so after coming here. On a separate note, we had gone to a seafood restaurant nearby a few weeks ago and it was a similar scenario. It was a busy Friday night with limited seating so we sat at the bar to wait.
Not only did the owner come over to talk to us, but we were given sample oysters and comp drinks for the wait. We had such a great time we stayed at the bar all night. I will take my business back there.
Being busy is not an excuse to push patrons to the side and ignore them!

I love this place they have happy hour from 4 to 7 the pizza is so good I recommend it

Food was really good. Looks like a good place for family of big groups. From the outside I didnt expect it to be as nice as it was.

Great place to grab lunch or dinner. Peter and Felix were both great. Both very attentive and great with their food suggestions. They made us feel like we were regulars there. Great service and the food was awesome. Good size portion for the price. I would definitely stop in again whenever I’m in the neighborhood.

I had my wife’s 50^th surprise brunch there on Sunday January 31^st… and oh my God !!!
Sebastian was a great help to me in planning the party… What can I say about the brunch except amazing. I had 25 people for the party and everyone, all 25 were extremely impressed and amazed with the spread that Modern on the Rail had put out… There’s so many choices that I can’t describe all here, but I promise you, you will not be disappointed… And for the unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary’s which they keep filling up your glass when it’s half-​empty the staff is amazing, attentive and friendly. I can’t wait to go back and I know 25 people who will also go back for the brunch. But don’t go just for brunch their daily menu is amazing as well and you will enjoy dinner…

Very disappointed.
Apps were tasteless.
Food was bland except for my dish which tasted burnt.
Service was lacking.
Sadly, the best part of the meal was the cappuccino.
Won’t be back.

Here for brunch with the extended family unit. Apparently the place has changed hands from when is was The Club Car. It still has the high vaulted ceilings and what looks like a nice bar to hang at, but alas, too far from home to hang and drink here.
The waiters were constantly around, cleaning away dirty plates, asking if we wanted drinks and re-​filling where necessary.
The food is OK, nothing that I thought needed a serious makeover but nothing that was a WOW either. There were some unusual brunch items… fried chicken and a raw bar come to mind. But it was a welcome change from the mundane scrambled eggs, french toast and bacon.
Anyway, I’m not a fan of these all you can eat extravaganzas but as brunch goes, this is A-​OK.

We were interested in seeing the new restaurant here at the station. The place is casual inside which is a plus. However the music was very loud. I asked the person who seated us if they would turn down the music and they did. The food was very good and fairly priced. The Rails salad was well done, the eggplant rollatini was excellent and the shrimp dish didn’t disappoint. However, the service was not up to the food. It took a long time for our beers to come, the rails salad ordered with salmon showed up without the salmon so we had to wait for the fish to be cooked and in general the staff did not seem on top of the action.

Food and service was phenomenal. The reason I give this restaurant 5 starts is due to the fact that not only was the food phenomenal but the service was beyond spectacular. From the maitre’d, who greeted us at the door and say us within 5 minutes when we were told there was a half hour wait, to our waiter Rapheal, who was extremely attentive and helped with the best recommendations.
We started with the selection of oysters for the night which were all delicious and extremely fresh. We also ordered the buffalo mozzarella which came drizzled in olive oil with roasted peppers, artichoke and olives. The mozzarella was smooth and delicious. We then had the shrimp and calamari, the sauce was a perfect combination and did not leave anything fishy. The seafood was fresh with a perfect snap to it. Also had the chicken scarpariello with cherry peppers, the sauce was the right texture and combination catching the flavor of the sausage mushrooms and potatoes.
Will definitely be coming back.

Ok ~ Yes, I am giving this place 5 stars and not because I am just being nice. It is deserved! Our waiter Justin was as excellent as you would want a waiter to be: patient, observant and clearly in knowledge of all the things we needed answered. Even though they could not find our reservation, they seated us quickly. Kudos for this as I know people try and get their way into places, I really did place one. Anyhow, the lasagna was excellent, the shrimp were as good as could be and the chicken francese was superb! We had a top quality cannoli to finish off with some capu’s and we were in heaven! We will be returning ASAP.

Awesome Calamari the sauce it was in was to die for! Also great waiter, very friendly, and made great suggestions!

This restaurant is simply amazing. The new décor is beautiful. The ambiance and music is so pleasing.
Staff is so helpful, pleasant and willing to accommodate.
We were 5 people and each dish was more delicious then the next. The lamb chops were so tender and delicious. I highly recommend them.
Chicken Francese and pasta dishes were equally delicious.
Desserts…yummmmmmyyyyyy!!!
Anthony and Sebi, the owners were there and greeting patrons. A very nice touch.
Go and enjoy great southern Italian food!!!

After having a party booked with previous owner (who just closed and never notified us, the new owners Modern stepped up and honored our previous contract.
