Mammoth Mountain Inn

Stayed at the yodler area of the hotel. Horrible no air conditioning and this was not mentioned to us at check in and it’s not stated on the website. If you decide to stay here make sure to ask if your room has air conditioning. We are here during the summer so it’s hot.

It is the location that earns this place the high score. Walk right over to the gondola or chair and start skiing, can’t beat that! The lobby is really great, with cozy fireplaces and comfortable furniture to hang out in. The staff was professional and courteous. Our room was on the smaller side, but clean, with a comfortable bed and comfortable bedding, and a coffee pot so I wasn’t complaining. It did get pretty loud early in the morning, with little kids clunking down the hallway in their ski boots.
There is a little shop on the the first floor with sundries and some food and coffee. I was starving and our dinner reservations weren’t for hours so I grabbed an over priced bowl of the chili, which was a huge mistake. It was in this crock pot thing, but it was cold so the bored kid behind the counter told me to stick it in the microwave. It tasted gross, I regretted it right away. Also, we forgot dental floss and I was pretty shocked that the shop didn’t stock dental floss, and they didn’t have any to purchase at the front counter so we had to go into town.

What a hot mess of a place. I first got a room at the East wing. It smelled bad because the carpet was mildewy and someone had been smoking in the room. I got moved to the West wing. The room was very noisy and I could hear the fan from my neighbor going off at weird times. The hotel is slowly falling apart. The carpets are dirty everywhere, the halls are cavernous, the overall layout is cumbersome to navigate. The curtains are torn and their is no privacy screen. All the furniture is scuffed and damaged. They need to do some serous renovations.
The staff was a mix of young and undertrained ski bums and snowboarders who work here so they can use the slopes for free. Calling the front desk is an adventure of its own.
I had to stay here for work and I’m probably not their target audience. Yes the slopes are walking distance… But that’s no reason to let the facilities deteriorate to the point they are at.

I spent a weekend there, and I had a great time. The skiing is awesome, the people are super friendly and trying to help every step of the way. The hotel location can’t get any better, and for dinner we took the shuttle to the Village. The room was a queen, which was not in the main building. It was spacious enough, comfortable bed, clean, fridge, hair dryer, even an iron! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is the noise. There is unreasonably loud noise coming from the room upstairs if you get a room on the main floor. We could hear every move they made, and when the kids were running around it was really bad. That kind of spoils the fun when you try to relax after a day on the slopes.
Also, the little store in the lobby is indeed super overpriced, but the pastries were really good.
I will stay again, but get a king room in the main building.

Ok, Mammoth Mtn had a great season this year and I was finally able to get some time off and get me some. Made my reservation on Kayak and got a great deal, $ 110 per night for a dbl room. I wasn’t expecting a lot, but the location was great, base of the main lodge and the experience was better than expected.
My friend and I checked in around 3 with no problem and got a pretty nice room with 2 dbl beds near the pool/​jacuzzi and with covered parking. We requested a mini fridge to put some beer and snacks in and got that no problem as well. What else can you ask for at that price? Ski in/​Ski out/​super easy check in/​out and friendly staff!
We didn’t eat there, but they do have restaurants and a bar. Only con is that they are located a few miles away from the village, not really a problem, just a quick ride or they have shuttles available as well.
I will definitely stay here again!

I’m going to up my review from 4 to 5 because of the convenience offered here. It’s the only hotel on the mountain and frankly you never have to leave. Yeah it’s getting older and outdated but heck you can rent anything you need, eat, drink, mingle, ski, sleep, repeat all right here in one spot for a very reasonable nightly rate, I think. The staff are fun and friendly and you literally have to go out the front door to ski.

Location is great and the rooms were clean! No complaints! It’s a but outdated, but I was too busy watching snow fall outside to really care!
We were basically snowed in from the storm we caught, so we really only ate at the restaurants in the hotel. The lodge bar had a great selection of drinks and food, a little overpriced for what it was… Same with breakfast in the restaurant upstairs. Food was good, nothing great for the prices.
Unfortunately, our only REAL issue was with the equipment rental shop in the lobby (which I understand is separate from the hotel, but this was a huge issue when we purchased a half day rental and their employee was GONE for almost 2 HOURS which we missed on skiing! Feel like the hotel should have more control over how its ran.)

We have our family if 4 plus our parents staying at the inn. We are trying to enjoy a glass of wine after skiing all day. We brought our own bottle as well as bought wine & food from the bar. We were told that we had to stay outside of the boundaries of the liquor license with non-​purchased wine. Totally fair! However we moved into the acceptable corner and were repeatedly harassed by“Paula from Portland” the «bartender/​waitstaff». Literally she was the most rude waitstaff that I’ve ever encountered. She went to the extreme of taking our glasses, that were from the purchased wine, and telling us they we were not allowed to have them. I told her she was making our stay miserable and it did not even impact her behavior.

Good ski resort hotel with a lot of the things you want. Covered parking is a nice touch. Wish there were more dining options because it’s isolated up there. There is a shuttle that goes into the village, 4 miles down the road to make it easy to get you and your family into the action without having to drive. GREAT staff! Could not be nicer and more helpful.

Stay here for the location. Avoid the food. Drinks are fine. That’s about it.
The inn is steps away from Main Lodge and four lifts, including Panoroma Gondola which is the only one that goes all the way to the peak. For ski in/​ski out, this might be the best spot on the mountain. The main lobby has beautiful wood architecture, but that’s where the positives end.
We paid more for a deluxe king, but it was smaller than the standard queen/​double rooms. We are talking around 250 sq ft here. Eek. The bathroom was the smallest I’ve seen at any hotel. Décor was old and the heater seemed to only function at one setting (HOT). Walls are thin, and the bed was uncomfortable.
The food is dreadful. The Mountainside Bar & Grill is their only restaurant, and it was below even my low expectations. We had dinner here our first night, and there were huge missteps. Undercooked, dripping wet artichokes and a cardboard burger were the worst offenders. You can read more in my review if you care:
The little shop in the lobby has bottled water for $ 7 and breakfast burritos for $ 10. This place makes Disneyland look like a steal!
Service was good. From the front desk, to the ski valets, our waiter, and the bartenders — everyone was cheerful and helpful. Except the restaurant manager. He was a party pooper about not serving mimosas at the end of breakfast hours. He did offer to sell us an a whole bottle of $$ champagne and throw-​in free OJ. Yeah… Speaking of which, they have a strict alcohol policy here. They don’t serve at the bar until 11 am. You are better off taking the gondola to McCoy Station, where the ladies at the bar will take good care of you.
I heard there are renovated rooms you can specifically ask for. Wish we knew that when we booked! They sell out for weekends so book in advance.

Convenient to the slopes? ABSOLUTELY. Fantastic hotel? Meh, not so much. Rooms are tiny and super outdated (and EXPENSIVE, but that’s no surprise). I do NOT recommend staying on the first floor unless you want to hear elephants above you (AKA people walking around in their ski boots). Walls seem pretty paper thin. Overall, it was a nice stay — good location (ski in/​ski out) and the restaurant was pretty good, but definitely not a hotel that I will dream about at night or long to go back to.

Are family just checked into the mammoth Mountain inn. And my dad made a mistake in the reservations. Brian the guy behind the front desk was so helpful and nice he helped us change our reservation gave us a great room and help my dad chill out. I love this place it so awesome were so close to the mountain and I’m so excited to be on vacation at this great place!

Pros: great location for the price right next to the lifts, shuttle service was great, front desk help was amazing in moving us to a new room with less noisy neighbors above us, adjacent Yodler restaurant and bar has great food with great service. Room was actually very clean even though very outdated.
Cons: resorts restaurant and bar had horrible hours. Went to get a drink at 10:30 at night… bar closed. Went for breakfast at 10:30 in the morning… closed. For those that are vacationing we want to eat and drink at our leisure. Finally sat at the bar during the day and was ignored for 10 minutes and had to walk out. While there was some good associates, overall most associates were unfriendly and unhelpful.
Room are in here ally pretty shabby but to be expected for the low price.
In general I’d spend more money to stay at or near the village for a better vacation experience

It’s one plus is that it is right next to the slopes. That’s it. We had a tough time sleeping. Loud as heck with the mountain snow blowers and groomers. DO NOT stay in any rooms facing the slopes. Even when we were moved to the back of the hotel, it was still noisy. WiFi was spotty and our TV didn’t work. It’s old and dated. Staff were nice.
If you can sleep through anything, then go for it. I personally need to be able to sleep at night — and even with ear plugs it was tough.

Really convenient hotel to stay in because it’s the only hotel at main lodge where all the lifts are. They also offer a free shuttle to and from the airport and a courtesy shuttle to the village until midnight if you want to head to town for dinner and bar hopping. We never used the car which was nice especially due to the snow on the roads and drinking.
The rooms are pretty affordable and I was able to get a triple a discount too. We also were able to check in at noon no problems even though check in starts at 4pm. The bathrooms may be a little old but other than that, our stay was great.

The Mammoth Mountain Inn an existential crisis in structural form … but it should be experienced. I always come back.

— The shuttle is super convenient but needs to operate past 11:00 pm!
— The bar is the best kept secret in Mammoth, with a good happy hour.
— The lobby is forever too cold to «warm» by the fireplace.
— The hot tubs are a tad grungy, but functional, and provide awesome value.
— The $ 20 «resort fee» is an insulting joke to your senses and NEEDS TO GO … ASAP!
As a parting note, you can’t beat the history. The Inn was here before it all and takes you back to when CA skiing (or skiing in general) was still a funky affair and not about over-​priced «villages» and fancy restaurants. Good slopes, apres drinks, and cool people. What its all about. There are plans to tear down the Inn, hence the existential crisis. A new Inn (rumors have it to be a Four Seasons) would be great, but would it really?

This is the best you can get if you want to be right ON the Mountain. Great service. Nicest staff. Rooms are a bit dated but great value for money. Huge free DVD selection for in room viewing. Fun game room and our favorite was HOT outdoor pool and SPA. Ask for Rick Espy at the front desk and he will make sure your stay is 5 Star.

My fiancé and I took a last minute road trip to Mammoth. We booked our room the night before. Although we arrived in the morning way before the check-​in time of 4:00 pm, our room was ready. We were able to change into our winter gear and hit the slopes.
The standard room was very small but offered just enough for a one night stay. If I plan to stay here again for more than two nights, then I would book a better room. For around the same price, our room in Juniper Springs included a kitchen, dining table, fireplace, and couch. Although the room was small, I liked that there was easy access to more food options unlike Juniper Springs. There is resort fee of $ 20. Parking is included and they offer free ski valet. I really liked the indoor jacuzzis.
The location is great since it’s right by lifts and the Main Lodge. The staff is very nice and friendly. We were also able get a late check out so we could enjoy a few extra hours in Mammoth.

If I knew beforehand that everything happens at The Village, I would have never booked this inn. Although it is really close to the Main Lodge (the lifts), you become isolated at night. For instance, I tried to order pizza from Dominos but they flat out refused because this inn is on federal land and refuses to pay additional taxes.
Apparently, this hotel purportedly went through a renovation, but I didn’t see that whatsoever. My door had this big gaping hole that welcomed all the hallway noise as well as the elevator that was next to my room. Also, they tack on resort fees. The positive thing about this inn is that they have on demand shuttle service from 3:00pm to 10:30pm since they obviously are not close to anything. Also, dining options are quite limited and very expensive.
If you are coming to Mammoth, I would stay away from this place.

Stayed here for the second time over the Xmas holiday season 2014.
Pros:
LOCATION, ski in/​ski out; Love it
Service: from the ski rental shop to the bartenders, on both trips have had A+ service (actually felt sorry for the servers in restaurant at breakfast in mornings; some people were so rude and demanding knowing that its the holiday season. But I NEVER had any problems with any of the servers)
Pets: My dog sitter backed out at the last minute and I was able to bring my pet last minute for an additional daily fee.
Cons:
Hotel is older and needs to be updated. We had the 2 bedroom loft. The décor and carpeting need to be updated. The bathroom is tiny (however, great water pressure in shower).
So the 3 star is for the condition of the hotel, NOT the service. If they would renovate, I would gladly update my rating.
