History
Established in 1978.
The Oaktree Furniture Store was established in 1978 by Roger Barker, a local resident for numerous years that saw the need for a furniture store in the growing town of Mammoth Lakes. The original Oaktree furniture store was located in Sherwin Plaza just across and down the street from its current location. The store’s original focus was on window coverings with some furniture, as space was limited for display. After numerous successful years in operation and seeing the demand grow for a true furniture store in Mammoth Lakes, Roger Barker purchased the property located at 546 Old Mammoth Road and in 1990 built the current showroom to operate the Oaktree Furniture Store. The success of the Oaktree Furniture Store in its new location required that in 1991 a warehouse be built directly behind the showroom. The current owners of the Oaktree Furniture Store are Robert and Maryann Hutchison. Robert grew up in Southern California and came to Mammoth to ski with his family each year. After graduating High School and going to college in Southern California, Robert joined Marriott Hotel Corporation in an entry-level position. While working on an assignment in opening a hotel in Atlanta, Georgia for Marriott he meet his wife to be. As his career progressed it took him and his wife overseas to open and establish hotels for Marriott Corporation in various countries, Saudi Arabia, Bermuda, Hong Kong, Australia, Thailand and New Zealand. After living overseas for 18 years and 20 years with Marriott Corporation. Robert and Maryann decided it was time to retire from the hospitality industry and return home to the United States. Taking a year off from work Robert decided he needed to do something to be active. In looking for business opportunities in Mammoth Lakes he came across the current owner of th
