The Auto Doc

My car never ran the same after going here, and taking it to numerous other mechanics after they screwed up a basic job I finally just sold the car. They also disconnected my battery and the radio went into theft lock. They couldn’t find the code (which was in the glove box) so they charged me and extra $ 100 for the labor. I will never go back here or tell anyone anything good about this place. Oh ya, and the guy was a total jerk.

After being blown off by the jerks at Mammoth Chevron… twice… I tracked down Auto Doc in the industrial park on Commerce… not that easy to find, but Im glad I did. The doctor dropped what he was doing and immediately diagnosed why my engine light was on. John is the friendliest guy you can imagine. Believe me its worth finding him, you wont be sorry. hes a great mechanic and fun to deal with. people go to the chevron station garage on main street because its so easy to find. dont waste your time there.

John is the most superb mechanic I have met. We had driven up to Mammoth from Carlsbad and our van over heated. John took the time and effort required to make sure everything was okay. The heating problem could have been something severe. Thankfully it wasn’t. John took all the time necessary to make sure nothing was actually wrong with the van. John was a true professional. Ultimately there was nothing wrong. Needed a radiator cap. John charged nothing for the repair. I could not recommend John more!!!

Fantastic experience. Had an emergency while driving cross country, John took care of us right away and we were back in the road in half an hour with minimal cost. He even helped us out with directions and weather avoidance during an unexpected snow storm. Can’t recommend more highly!

I was in Mammoth for the first time, at my sons high school ski race competition. On the ride down to the village from the resort about 4:45pm on a Tuesday I heard a loud screech from the engine compartment of my Mercedes GL550 and then all the warning lights on the dash started lighting up. I had a big problem. A belt tension pulley in the engine compartment had seized and the serpentine belt literally melted and broke. I was without power steering, a water pump, or an alternator as I lumbered down the road in my big SUV. 300 miles from home, and no Mercedes dealer anywhere close, I knew I’d have to find a local mechanic. Not the ideal situation.
I did what I normally do for a good restaurant when I travel — I popped open the Unilocal app on my phone and instantly found the Auto Doc nearby. I called and John answered, even though it was just after their published closing time. I explained my problem and John was willing to stay late to be sure I could get the car to him that night, which I did. He gave it a quick look, knew exactly what the problem was, and gave me a lift back to my motel in town.
The next morning John ordered up the new parts, one from Mercedes directly, and had it purring again in no time flat once they were delivered. And even though I have an expensive Mercedes, and I was an out-​of-​towner in a rush, the price for this repair was far less than I expected to have to pay, and in fact it was less than the Mercedes dealer charged me for my last oil change.
John’s an old-​school mechanic, one that has been turning wrenches a long time and knows an awful lot about anything that moves. I talked to him for some time and learned he’s been in the Mammoth area fixing local cars for over 20 years. In this area, I get the impression that if you’re not good you’re probably not in business long. That he’s still doing business speaks volumes to his talent.
John’s shop is in an industrial park just a bit out of the downtown area. It is a little difficult to find. If you need a repair in the Mammoth area, trust me, follow his directions to the shop and find him.
In the small town where I live I know my personal mechanic well and I trust him. If I lived in Mammoth I’d have the same respect for John, and he’d be the only place I’d take my vehicles.

My car was making some strange noises, and I had no idea what is was. The Auto Doc helped me out immediately, explained everything really clearly, and all my car stress was quickly resolved! Would definitely go back!

John the «Doc“worked for me years ago in Orange County and was my lead mechanic. By far the most talented and honest technician who worked for me at Quinn’s Automotive. I would highly recommend him!

Pretty legit for a small-​town mechanic! I’d recommend him to a friend if they needed some car work while in the area.
My transmission started acted up while on a work trip. I dropped it off on Monday afternoon, with the comment that I was leaving town with it on Wednesday afternoon. He didn’t look at it until Tuesday mid-​day, and didn’t have a diagnosis for me until Tuesday late afternoon. He said he would have to order a part and it would be here Thursday morning… I guess he missed the single memo I had about leaving on Wednesday.
I can’t blame him too much… it’s a small town, and I know he wouldn’t carry a giant inventory of random parts. He seemed extremely knowledgeable about the diagnostic codes that my car was putting out and how they can relate to performance. He didn’t actually do anything to the car (to my knowledge), but the car started acting fine later that day (props to him? or lucky, I don’t care).
The dealership in my hometown had a different diagnosis than what he gave me. Rather than replace a specific part, they said the whole transmission would have to be replaced. I would normally be very skeptical, but they got it covered under warranty, so it must have been legit.

Trying to take a vacation to Mammoth and my car breaks down on the way. Call Mr. Auto Doc and he was nothing short of amazing. Thank you so much!!!

My timing belt snapped and was replaced down in Hesperia — when I brought it back home to mammoth the car was acting really odd. The Doc said it would take about an hour but since it was a simple fix he only charged me ½ hour of work. Very honest — I will take all my business here from now on. Goodyear & Chevron are a complete ripoff in comparison.

We had the Doc do a pre purchase inspection for us and they did a great job and saved us from buying a big fat money pit of a car. Thx Auto Doc for being honest and up front with us!

The people at the auto doc where great. I broke down in mammoth and had my car towed to his doors. before the end of the day he had diagnosed by problem and gave me the options that I had. I checked the pricing on the work being done with reputable mechanics in my home town and he was being competitive with them. All in all auto-​doc, specifically John, is by far the best mechanics shop in mammoth. I have not met with such an honest, down to earth guy.

I have had a few problems this past winter with my battery every time i did i had my car taken to the autoDoc and he takes great care of me every time. I will never take my car any where else!

On vacation from socal in Mammoth. My car had a cooling system issue so i brought it to the Autodoc. I was out of there in just a few hours, you can tell this guy knows what he’s doing. Great shop, i definitely recommend.
