Yu’s always delivers consistent, high quality, flavorful chinese. Hunan chicken(request extra spicey) with brown rice and the hot and sour soup are my go to items. Some of the best chinese food in the greater Richmond area, give Yu’s a try, you won’t be disappointed.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Richmond and I’m very lucky that it is close to home. Food is always very good. Only negative is they can be a bit slow for take out. Lunch special is quite a bargain!

Food is good for take out, but customer service is TERRIBLE!!! Rude wait staff… which I’m guessing is why is always empty inside…

Best General Tsos/Sesame Chicken/Orange Chicken in the metro area! The lettuce wraps are superb as well. Can’t eat a bad meal here even if you don’t try these superb dishes above!!!

Seriously awesome food. I highly recommend this place. Great flavors. Family favorites include Szechuan beef, shrimp with beans, the Lo mein and honey shrimp(fried). Excellent place.

Looks like it is going to be dirty and old from the exterior but the inside is very nice and clean. The plates and tables are very nice. Lunch menu is very affordable and a good size portion. The orange chicken was excellent. In by 11:45 and out by 12:30 so I’d be back to work on time. I’ll go back again soon.

I guess I’ll start with the incredibly over priced menu. It scared me off before I even tried the food. For comparison, normally an order of General Tso’s chicken is $ 12 with nothing added to it, but luckily, they had a lunch special menu and I gave it a shot for a more reasonable $ 8 and this included fried rice and an egg roll. Upon tasting the food, I was less than impressed. Without adding any soy sauce myself, it tasted like it had been drenched in it prior to being packaged in the kitchen. The chicken seemed to be whatever they had scraped from the bottom of their stock that day, and the fried rice was over cooked. The incredibly low quality of the food only adds insult to injury when looking at their prices. I won’t be returning to eat here ever again.

Today, I had lunch at Yu’s. It’s a little off the path, but a friend had been there and brought me along. I was really pleased with my lunch selection. I had Wonton Soup, Hunan Chicken, and Fried Rice. The wonton soup and fried rice were pretty standard, but the Hunan Chicken was really good! They served fried wonton strips with the soup that seemed to be homemade and really delicious! I would recommend Yu’s for sure. My whole meal was like $ 8.00!

Late review 2013 — My girlfriend went out to this location on a whim… usually we don’t go that far West for a meal. We had the crab Rangoon appetizer. It was incredible! The wonton was not the main ingredient and the seasoning if the crab(which you could actually taste) was great. Then we ordered our meals, I’ll let her review hers. I always order my favorite dish when trying a new Chinese restaurant, Orange Beef(aka beef with orange peel). It was excellent. Not only did it come with a side of vegetables, but was a decent cut of meat and was carefully prepared. The crust was crisp but not hard and the sauce had a great balance and to my surprise, some complexity. There was not an over abundance of red pepper but there was some spice to it. The only downside is the oranges appeared to have be pre-charred and not prepared in the sauce; they should be tender enough to enjoy. I had to leave them. The portion size was generous and I took home leftovers. Like other reviews, modern, clean, and visually unlike other Chinese restaurants in town. It was funny to see Food Network on the tv at the little bar vs sports but who knows, maybe they’re just foodies.

Randomly looking for a Chinese place between Richmond and Charlottesville. I check the reviews and jump off the freeway. First, this place is a step nicer then your standard strip mall location. And the food is definitely a higher quality and freshness then almost any place I’ve been before. Steamed dumplings were excellent, egg roll was fresh, breading on sweet and sour chicken was excellent. One thing to look it for is sodium intake. The dumpling sauce was a bit salty. For the price, quality, and taste I gave it 5 stars.

Good for American-Chinese food. Not as good as China Star.

First time here. My future sister in law and her boyfriend come here once a week! Alright, you know when you order take out and chicken dishes like General Tsos or Sweet and Sour Chicken and the pieces are small? Not here! The size of my sister in laws General Tsos chicken were enormous! The size was like between ping pong ball and golf ball sized pieces! The rice choices were brown, white, or fried rice. My all time favorite will always be Sweet and Sour Chicken or Pork. This place hit the spot! It was so delicious I was eating it while driving home! The pieces they cut for the dishes are huge, larger than your regular take out chains. I will definitely return here on my next visit home.

Yu’s Bistro is American-Chinese food, but on another level. They use high quality ingredients, and you can clearly taste that in everything you order. I’ve had their chicken lettuce wrap(it is hands down, the best lettuce wrap I have ever tasted), crispy duck, lo mein, general tso’s chicken, and several other dishes– absolutely no complaints. The portion sizes are huge, and the prices are more than reasonable. Another thing, I just love the ambiance. The lighting is soft and dim, and the color scheme of the restaurant is classy and romantic. Perhaps a bit too quiet though. Other than that, love love love.

My favorite Chinese Richmond in all of Richmond. Fabulous serving sizes, awesome wonton soup, and I love the general Tsao’s. For some reason restaurants in Centerville never last long. I better start returning a lot before the curse runs this place as well.

Richmond is not the best place to find good chinese food, however, and relatively speaking, Yu’s is pretty decent. The food there is not«authentic» — it’s American-Chinese, but I think it’s pretty good. My wife and I have been there plenty of times and continue going back again and again. My favorite dish there is the chicken cashew.

We could not resist eating at Yu’s after reading the Unilocal review written by a fellow Chinese food snob: David H. I firmly believe if most Americans tasted the food as it is prepared in mainland China, the slop dished out by the vast majority of Chinese restaurants would be fed to the hogs as it should be. It is rare to find truly good Chinese food. We suspected David H was correct based upon the take-out orders flowing out the front door while we sat waiting for our dinner. We were very happy with the taste, flavor and portion size on the meals we ordered. We dined on pork in garlic sauce and kung pao chicken — — - but I suspect you could order anything on the menu and be very pleased. One caution — the meals are still relatively mild by comparison to authentic Chinese food — — - so do not hesitate to ask them to turn up the heat if that is how you prefer it.

This is a new Chinese restaurant in town, and the interior is very modern, clean and welcoming. I was here with a few co-workers, and had a really nice lunch. It’s already one of my favorite places because it’s close to work and genuinely good… When we came in for lunch there were a decent number of patrons, but we still got seated right away. I got a $ 8 lunch special, that came with rice(fried or white, my choice) as well as soup or an eggroll. I got egg drop soup, which had corn in it and didn’t need any soy sauce– it was delicious as is! I then got the shrimp in lobster sauce as my entrée– and was not disappointed. The sauce was flavorful(it was a clear sauce, but very thick) the veggies and shrimp tasted fresh and weren’t overcooked, and I didn’t have any trouble eating the whole portion :) The service was efficient and fast. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars from me is because they don’t deliver!

So my wife and I were traveling in VA last week over spring break and decided to stop for dinner in a suburb of Richmond. What we discovered by chance is a really fine restaurant if you happen to be in the area. From the outside, Yu’s looks like many of the typical chinese restaurants that cater to some of the more american styles of the cuisine. DONOT let the strip mall exterior fool you, as one will quickly realize that something very different is going on once you step through the doors. First, the restaurant is cozy but does not feel cramped in any way. This is in large part to the beatiful wall hangings, lighting, seating, and artisticly placed windowboxes. I was later surprised to find out that much of this lovely decour was created by one of the co-owners(the wife) – BYHAND! I found that this theme of «no short cuts» extended to the food as well. Before I get into that however, I should preface the rest of my review with the caviat that I am a bit of a chinese cusine food snob. My wife is a nativeof Taiwan so between the trips back there and the food she has created at home, I have found it increasingly difficult to eat at chinese restaurants that cater more toward american versions of the food. After eating at Yu’s China Bistro, I may have to re-consider that stance — it was that GOOD. We started off with the typical fried noodles and dipping sauces. I immediately knew something was different because they tasted fresh and much less oilier that I remember these snacks being. When I inquired about it, I was told that they do not by them wholesale, but make them daily — again BYHAND. It really did make a difference in the taste… Next were chicken lettuce wraps — Delicious — and they reminded me strongly of the ones I have eaten at P.F. Chang’s. I also found out through the owner and some of the other reviews on SUPERPAGES that the other co-owner(husband/chef) had been a chef at… P.F. Chang’s. =D My wife ordered the Vegetable Soup and both she and our 2 year old son enjoyed it thouroghly. I had a taste or two of the soup and it was more than good. I also should note that NONE of our food had that annoying MSG aftertaste that I hate. When I asked about it, the co-owner(wife) confirmed that they DIDNOT use MSG, but instead used the more expensive stock bases(chicken, beef etc…) to help add flavor to the food. Wow… =) In typical american fashion I had the General Tso’s Chicken and was pleasantly surprised bu the spiceness of it. The owner told me that it is typical for the restaurants in the Richmond area(but not for my ones here in DFW). My wife had the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce and again there was an unmistakable freshness to the dish that impressed her as well. In summary, I think that the folks just north and east of Richmond have a real winner here and I encourage them to check it for dining in out if they are in the area(in addition to the take-out). In addition it was only about 20 minutes from Richmond proper so it might well be worth the drive to check it out.
